Puncturing air tight meat packages in supermarkets. Did anyone else used to do this?

I know this is really odd, but when I was a young child and I'd go to the supermarket with my DM I had this thing where I'd stick my finger nails into the airtight packets of meat until they burst. I'd do it to all kinds of meat and sometimes sausages or fish as well. I found it really satisfying, kind of like when you pop bubble wrap.. Blush my DM never knew that I did this and would quite rightfully have hit the roof if she found out.

As an adult I'm horrified though. I mean I was making perfectly decent pieces of meat inediable. Some poor sod will have picked up those packets of meat, and when going to prepare a meal found them to be rancid.

Did anyond else ever do this? Is it a thing?

Dh used to do this as a small child according to MIL. He can't explain why. Most importantly, he doesn't do it anymore.

Walkerbean16 · 15/11/2018 21:23

we had that horrible lumpy wallpaper in the hall. i used to sit on the phone and push the lumpy bits in.

SecretWitch · 15/11/2018 21:33

My nan had velvet flocked wallpaper. I loved picking at it until it went bald.

Remember those horrible rubbery little bath pearl things? I used to squish them until they popped...all over the shop floor. No doubt I caused many a slippery floor and subsequent skidding.

I also liked to pop the flowers on my mum's massive fuchsia plant. Drove her mad.

Finally, I picked all the wood chip off the wall in my gran's downstairs loo. Then denied it was me.

Devious me.

ManonBlackbeak · 15/11/2018 21:39

I used to puncture wallpaper as well.

I also de-wicked a bedspread.

I plucked the fur from my teddy bears. I still have a baldy panda and a little bear.

I used to tear the corners of newspapers and eat it until my DM said I would end up pooing out toilet rolls.

Joinourclub · 15/11/2018 21:44

No, but I used to pull off the ends of loaves of bread and eat them in the car on the way home, and then get into trouble with my mum when she unpacked the shopping. Totally worth it, nothing better than still warm , fresh ,white, crusty, bread,

@ManonBlackBeak

The MFI story reminds me of DB and playing hide and seek in the B&Q display kitchens.

My brother took a shit in a B&Q bathroom display once too.

Stickmanslittleleaf · 15/11/2018 22:11

I didn't as a child but when shifting about packs of beef mince now to find the best date I have an almost overwhelming urge. I'm glad I'm not alone.
In my dgp's house they had that wallpaper that had patterns sticking out and I used to put my nail into that and squash it. I spent a lot of time with them and it was one of my favourite passtimes there. I got into quite a bit of trouble and even now 30 years later my dgm's dead and gf's just turned 90 and I can see my nail work down that hallway and still do the odd one for old time's sake.

@SadSadLady

What does he do??? Wipe his arse?? 💩💩

Greensleeves · 15/11/2018 22:18

My brother was terrible for this sort of thing. He just couldn't leave anything alone. Once he painted the sash of my bedroom window with nail varnish and sprinkled instant coffee on it Confused

He became quite a successful/well-known street artist as an adult Grin

Sparklingbrook · 15/11/2018 22:20

My Dad was a hufe fan of the anaglypta wallpaper. I remember pushing the bobbles in too.

*huge

RaininSummer · 15/11/2018 22:25

Yes to dewicking bedspreads. It was so satisfying and I used to do it in patterns. Also found joy in bouncing on topbunk and poking holes in polystyrene tiles. Modern decor isn't so much fun or maybe be I am just 50 years older. The meat thing was a bit sad OP. All that mouldy meat.

BertieBotts · 15/11/2018 22:28

DSis and I once sharpened wax crayons and put the sharpenings on the radiator so they all dripped down and made lovely patterns we thought

Robbintime · 15/11/2018 22:30

Did anyone have a hot water tank which was covered in that squishy foam like you get in flower arrangements?

I would hide in the airing cupboard and push my finger in until I could touch the tank. Imagine my dads face after about 6 mths of this when the whole tank looked like a piece of cheese 🤦‍♀️ I got a proper smacked arse for that

suziessheep · 15/11/2018 22:32

Me and my sis used to crush kinder eggs in the shops Blush

RedCoffins · 15/11/2018 22:38

I know what you mean, OP.

I used the touch the fish eyes at the supermarket... you know those huge pieces of fish with the heads still on?

I've never actually told anyone I did that until now Blush

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs · 15/11/2018 22:53

Oh! Me! I have one.

I used to stand on my bed and crack the 'drips' off our artex ceiling...
I discovered how satisfying it was when I had bunk beds and then just continued.

I have no idea if my parents have ever looked close enough to realise there are loads of bits of plaster missing from their ceilings Blush

LuckyDiamond · 15/11/2018 23:23

My DD (10) ties knots in sleeves while I’m clothes shopping

Apologies to Primark, M&S, New Look and H&M.

blackcat86 · 15/11/2018 23:27

Me and my brother used to go around slapping joints of meat because it sounds like you're slapping someone's bum. The noise is still weirdly satisfying.

thaegumathteth · 15/11/2018 23:42

Hang on. People used to not wallpaper into corners? What? When?

RaininSummer · 15/11/2018 23:55

Yep, lazy wallpapering where the paper curves around the corner instead of najeing a sharp right angle. Leave a lovely unsupported bit to poke your fingers through.

olderthanyouthink · 15/11/2018 23:56

Wtf is dewicking a bedspread?????

RaininSummer · 16/11/2018 00:06

I suspect you are too young to have known the delights of a candlewick bedspread. They had all these little tufts that pulled out in a most satisfying way.
