Are there any truly family friendly TV series?

I sat down to watch the Durrells with DD's age 7&6....it was rated 7+ on Netflix.

We are really honest about sex, babies etc so I don't think I'm a prude(?) BUT I just don't think it was appropriate?

Lines like "we think the sex will calm you down" - how do I explain that to a 7yr old?!

SO

Can you recommend any good family watching that all of us will enjoy? From DH 44 to DD 6 (who enjoys things like my fair lady so it doesn't need to be modern). Dr Who would be too scary!

Bake off
Lego masters
The Simpsons

Weirdly my kids love Eat Well For Less and Shop Well For Less. We also watch Doctor Who, Strictly and various nature programmes.

Star Trek.
But only if you're willing to allow your children to become sci-fi geeks! Grin

We loved Time Team. Still repeated on Yesterday (Freeview).

I watch The Good Place with my 12 yo DD. Don’t think there’s anything inappropriate in that, but DCs might need to be 9/10 to get the themes of it.

HairyHoundofBudapest · 15/11/2018 19:02

These are all great, thank you Star

Merlin is on Netflix now. It's working for us. DS 6 & 8

LucyMorningStar · 15/11/2018 19:05

Just Add Magic on Amazon Prime is fab. I'm 32 and got very into it, along with my 7yo

theluckiest · 15/11/2018 19:06

Well, definitely not Friends!! It is constantly on one of the Sky channels so when we were looking for something to watch at 2pm on a rainy Sunday, that's what we found.

Turns out there's a lot of sexual references that I just didn't remember and had to turn over pretty swiftly...Blush

Thirtyrock39 · 15/11/2018 19:08

The simpsons
Outnumbered is good for older kids though Karen says 'twat' in the first episode

theluckiest · 15/11/2018 19:08

My Dc really like the Bake Off and Masterchef (!)

I also second the original Horrible Histories mainly cos I fancy them all

WicketWoo · 15/11/2018 19:13

Do people really think Modern Family is all about sex?!? I'd say it's mainly about relationships and very family friendly - though probably from age 8 up as the littler ones wouldn't get it all.

Plus horrible histories is amazing.

Jenniferturkington · 15/11/2018 19:14

Definitely try Full House (and Fuller House). We got in to them when visiting the US- very wholesome family viewing!
We also like Young Sheldon.
Mine absolutely love Friday Night Dinner- including my six year old, but it is entirely inappropriate!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 15/11/2018 19:20

We've been watching the original Sabrina the teenage witch series. Dds love Salem and we all find it funny.

But otherwise it's Disney films, anime or children's t.v. programmes here.

Second horrible histories i find myself watching them.

Secret life of the zoo is full of shagging animals! Mr Parsons is such a dude, mind!

HopeHopity · 15/11/2018 19:27

Love love the oldies All Creatures great and small and Darling Buds of May

ParisNext · 15/11/2018 19:27

Full house without a doubt and then Fuller House!!

NoSpend19 · 15/11/2018 19:28

Lost in space (remake) on netflix is good, we've also enjoyed merlin and a series of unfortunate events. It is tricky though. There isn't nearly as much around nowadays that is just gentle.

DatsunCogs · 15/11/2018 19:29

Bit low brow but we all love You've Been Framed and Total Wipeout, even the 3 year old loves those

HairyHoundofBudapest · 15/11/2018 20:14

Happy with (mild) swearing and shagging animals just not contstant references to sex that don't go over DCs heads!

I said it earlier in the thread, but if you’re looking for gentle, Hilda is just lovely 😊 and funny and quirky too.

happinessischocolate · 15/11/2018 20:23

Modern Family is mainly about sex!

Is it ??? 😂😂😂😂

God I'm either too blasé or totally naive then 😂

Chasingsquirrels · 15/11/2018 20:25

Can you get Merlin still?

UpToonGirl · 15/11/2018 20:26

We really enjoyed Troll Hunters on Netflix as a family, I think it's aimed at tweens but my 5 & 7 year olds loved it and DH & I were quite into it! its by Guillermo del Toro so if you like his stuff might be worth a go.

Also Cupcake and Dino, lighthearted and silly but enjoyable!

PackingSoap · 15/11/2018 20:28

Another one for Just Add Magic. I love that show.
