Help!!

The Shark Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner [IF250UKT] Pet Hair, Twin Battery, Navy is on sale today £200 cheaper than normal. I need to decide if I should get one.

Do you have one? Is it any good on hard floors?

Sorry wise mumsneters I'm just a bit ahh as to whether to get one or not. TIA

Got a shark 6 months ago and initially thought ok but not so keen anymore.

It stutters across carpet if I try to vacuum against the pile, leaving marks in the pile and I find the lift up poor on hard floors so have to use the tools instead. And base falls over really easily when using tools.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 14/11/2018 20:54

Oh which one do you have BrokenWing?

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 14/11/2018 21:02

Thanks LooksBetterWithAFilter
I think I was looking at the model down from that, the NV681UKT. Not sure what all the differences are, I also looked at the NV601UKT... They definitely all ended in UKT as opposed to the slightly cheaper UK (no T) range Grin

I'm still no closer to a decision gah!

I was desperate for one and she was Hmm about spending that much on a vacuum. He called my bluff and said it could be an anniversary present. I took that offer Grin

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 14/11/2018 22:23

I have the lift away too. Makes doing the stairs so easy for dh

EradicatetheDoubt · 15/11/2018 17:46

BrokenWing Can you alter the power on yours?

BrokenWing · 16/11/2018 13:43

Its the lift away.

It doesn't stutter as much with the power down, but then doesn't pick up Labrador hair from the carpet as well.

Switching to hard floors doesn't pick up all the bits in the kitchen (which are very obvious with a dark floor) but using the tools does, but takes longer. Big chunky heavy 12yr old dyson was much better before it died Sad, dh bought a dyson lightball first but he didn't notice it doesn't have a turbo attachment available to buy for the stairs so hoped the shark would be better.

Shark tools, releasing the wand etc are all well designed, but for me performance lets it down.

We use the dyson for the floors and the shark just for the stairs now.

EradicatetheDoubt · 16/11/2018 13:51

BrokenWing Have you washed the filters & dehaired the roller?

BrokenWing · 16/11/2018 14:11

I haven't, but can try. Its been like that since it was less than a month old, so unlikely to be filters. If it is filters I don't fancy having to wash them every month! Never had to clean filters with the old dyson.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 16/11/2018 14:37

Can you use the 5yr guarantee BrokenWing?

I bit the bullet and ordered the NV801UKT from AO with 20% off pricematch Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 16/11/2018 14:43

How heavy are the cordless ones? I need a vacuum cleaner that I can push around easily and which doesn't make my shoulders slip out of joint.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 17/11/2018 12:19

just found the shark on AO £199 with a £10 discount code and free delivery!

Skatersbeskating · 17/11/2018 16:09

I cant remember how often I clean the shark lift away filter. Probably every 3 months.

I put it in the empty bath & blast it with the shower spray Blush

Bluntness100 · 17/11/2018 16:36

I also prefer the shark to the Dyson, the suction is much better, when I switched I filled the shark in one room, which says something.

If the suction is too high it's hard to drag and push so you can just reduce it. It's fine on on our wooden floors too and my very experienced and very blunt cleaner tells me it's excellent and is also chuffed with it. Thankfully 🤣

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 17/11/2018 18:44

Mine has just been delivered Grin Grin

I had a momentary wobble that I should've bought the cordless stick with dual battery (it's c.£230 on Very with a discount code or was yesterday...) but I think I'll be fine with the upright. I can always buy the stick in future on a Black Friday super deal Grin

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 18/11/2018 20:13

oooh you know you are a proper adult when you get excited having a vacuum cleaner delivered!
Only ordered yesterday and AO delivered today for free. unpacked it, it is ridiculously easy to click together and my carpets look fab! a lot smaller than it looked on the video so sits neatly behind my kitchen bin. I love the way the handheld bit just pops off with a click of a button. so far so good.

HaveYouSeentheWritingontheWall · 18/11/2018 22:32

We've got the shark rocket (corded), bought it from QVC last year for £160. Best hoover I've used but I have had to unblock the front roller a couple of times which was easy to do and only took about 20 seconds, the only downside is that the pet hair fills it up pretty quickly.

It took a while to get used to it because it pulls itself forwards but it's definitely easier to use than either a traditional upright or a tub vacuum cleaner.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 19/11/2018 13:14

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes you're ahead of me! I've been struck down with a cold and haven't unwrapped mine yet let alone used it Grin

MotherWilliam · 19/11/2018 13:26

I've had my Shark a few months now and still love it. Wouldn't ever go back to Dyson. But I do keep on top of the filters - it makes a huge difference when you keep them clean (think actually this is the answer to all vacuums) and it is so easy. When you finish the floors, slide out the dirt box and empty it. slide out the foam filter and clear the housing, give the foam a wash under the tap and it's dry next morning to pop back in. May sound a faff but it really isn't. The suction stays amazing.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 19/11/2018 14:05

Thanks for that tip MotherWilliam I religiously clean all the dust out of my current VonHaus mini vac filter but I hadn't thought of washing and drying it Blush

I'll bear it in mind for my Shark!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 23/11/2018 13:07

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat get well soon, if only to try out the shark Grin

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 23/11/2018 14:49

Thank you Grin I had a slight wobble as the NV601UKT was on Amazon deal of the day today for £117.99 (Shock) but I decided to stick with my (as yet unwrapped) NV801UKT as I got it for £159 and it has extra features Grin

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 23/11/2018 21:44

oooh get you... extra features indeed Grin

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 23/11/2018 23:09

I should probably attempt to vacuum something Grin

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 24/11/2018 18:15

ah yes good point, but but.... it will get dirty!
