Am I going to lose money for 2 of my children? Am terrified. Universal Credit.

Just read this, I have 4 children age 6 to 14

If I get sent onto Universal credit from ESA does that mean I won't get any money for 2 of them?

Is it equal to losing half my child tax credits?

That's what I live off.

I'm shaking right now. Am so scared.

That screenshot is over a year old, can you not get more up to date information when searching?

Terribletweens · 13/11/2018 12:37

Yes, unfortunately that's how they're doing it, you need to avoid being a new claim, keep everything running with your current tax credits, don't give them any excuse to stop them or you'll be put onto UC.

3luckystars · 13/11/2018 12:38

Can I ask how much this is and how it gets paid?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/11/2018 12:43

I don't want to give you false hope but Would yours not be classed as a transitional claim rather than a new claim.
Even for new claimants though. Its all very well saying There will be no money for children born after April 2017. People might say "Well people knew this policy was coming," However re children born before then what are the parents supposed to do with them, just let them starve.
It makes me bloody mad all this cutting money from innocent children who do not ask to be born. However that probably another thread.

mostdays · 13/11/2018 12:45

Depends on whether you make a new claim or whether you are migrated across from legacy benefits with no break in claim.

UCWorries · 13/11/2018 12:47

Why couldn't they phase it our so that children already born stop getting it at 18 and no new 3rd children born after this year don't get it?

I know it was my decision to carry on my pregnancies and have my children

But it WASNT my choice for my husband to leave and for me to get ill Sad

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/11/2018 12:52

I agree with you, op. Plus you didn't get pregnant on your own, did you.
I wouldn't mind betting your ex is off having a whale of time and you're worrying about how you're going to provide for the children he helped to create and left behind.
Its always the resident and never the absent parent that gets the shitty end of the stick, isn't itFlowers

AdamNichol · 13/11/2018 13:00

The rules are different from transitioning between benefits to starting one anew. Unfortunately, I'm too long out of DWP now to know what the current state of play is. If your area is going UC though, your (ESA equivalent of a UC workcoach) should be able to advise?

Bombardier25966 · 13/11/2018 13:05

Why couldn't they phase it our so that children already born stop getting it at 18 and no new 3rd children born after this year don't get it?

Or we stop punishing children and allow people with more children to claim as before? Their relationships may break down too, we're really scraping the barrel when even the benefits system is two tier.

TheCupboardUnderTheStairs · 13/11/2018 13:34

Have you contacted CMS?

UCWorries · 13/11/2018 13:51

ExH doesn't work so no point.

OP- what do you currently receive ? Income support ?

ThatOneHurt · 13/11/2018 14:03

Jesus my husbands just left me. I hope to fuck we manage to sort things out but I have a third child on the way so this bullshit UC is a very really possibility for me as well.

Fuck me. What a shit state of affairs.

Hont1986 · 13/11/2018 14:57

If you are already getting ESA, tax credits, etc and you have no change of circumstances then nothing is going to change immediately, and probably not for a few years. The full rollout of UC to existing benefit claimants keeps being pushed back.

But yes, at some point in the future they will write to you and tell you that you have to switch to UC. But there will be (theoretically) 'transitional protection' at that point so your income should not drop.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 13/11/2018 15:01

Not sure if this helps as slightly different. I have four children and claim tax credits for 3 of them, fourth child was born after the cut off point. I was claiming single then went to a joint claim when my new partner moved in. I didn't lose any money starting that new claim as they said if they were already born and claiming for them they would continue to pay it.

Iaimtomisbehave1 · 13/11/2018 15:01

All id say is start saving now! Even just £5 or £10 a week... whatever you can manage. Cut down on things wherever possible so you can save £1 or £2 here and there. Save that money for when the changeover comes as you will be 6 weeks with no payment. So save...tiny amounts will add up.

whatsthestory123 · 13/11/2018 16:23

im shocked, i had no idea they only pay for 2 DC's on UC

so if you had dc's of 14, 12, 6 they only include 2 ?

how are women , and its mostly women be expected to manage if they dont have trans relief, and that wont last forever

less money,top up rents etc

UCWorries · 13/11/2018 16:44

It seems that way. I'm shocked too.

I understand it may deter people from having lots of kids in the future but why punish the kids already here.

Am already worrying how I will afford school trips uniforms etc now :(

UC i dont blame you for being worried

i count myself lucky i only have one at home now

bad times for manySad

Didiusfalco · 13/11/2018 17:15

Bad times, of course you are worried. I would be hopeful that you would be migrated across as an existing claimant rather than considered a new one. Appalling how people are being treated by this government.

whatsthestory123 · 15/11/2018 11:09

Well i see that biatch has resigned, great exscuse brexit to use, leaving Uc in more crisis
