Yesterday morning I started with a headache. It came on suddenly and was severe that I was clammy and had sweat running down my forehead until I vomited. I thought it was a bug or something.

The headache was much improved on laying down. I took paracetamol with little effect and felt pretty rubbish all day

This morning I woke feeling ok. However as soon as I stood up out of bed my head was pounding. I felt clamming and vomited. Quickly laying down the headache is again much improved. I also now have pain in my back between my shoulder blades.

I phoned the gp and they have no appointments for today unless is urgent.

I'm unsure what to do? I can get out of bed without my head pounding so much

Thanks for reading

I’m afraid op’s is typical of most of us if we’re honest. We don’t want to bother anyone so ask on here. Lets hope the OP has taken advice and got to hospital. If it’s nothing - great, but you don’t know til you get there x x

FaithInfinity · 13/11/2018 10:39

I’m a nurse, I’ve had similar symptoms and I hope you’re in A&E by now OP.

HoleyCoMoley · 13/11/2018 10:40

You need to go to hospital and if standing makes you feel so unwell you need to keep still and get an ambulance, hope you feel better soon.

Hope you are been seen to OP. Good luck x

clairethewitch70 · 13/11/2018 10:47

Not a dr or a nurse but please go to a&e. You need to get checked over.

naicepineapple · 13/11/2018 10:48

I hope you're on your way op.

Chapellass · 13/11/2018 10:50

Hope all ok OP. I had the opposite of what your experiencing - cdnt lie down without pain, plus visual problems. A&E acted fast with CT and MRI and neurologist. But if they fob you off ask for a neuro consult.

Mrspimplepopper · 13/11/2018 18:43

Thankyou for your help this morning everyone. It's sometimes hard to decide what's the right course of action when you feel really unwell.

I did go to a&e via ambulance as i was screaming in pain with the headache. they diagnosed viral meningitis.

FaithInfinity · 13/11/2018 18:45

Blimey, good job you did seek medical attention. I hope you feel better soon.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 13/11/2018 18:52

Hope you're on the mend soon x

Yvbmioasp · 13/11/2018 19:19

Oh dear OP, I hope you make a full recovery very soon. Do complain about your doctor when you're feeling better. Flowers

ileclerc · 13/11/2018 19:23

Oh my goodness. Hope you recover quickly.

StealingYourWiFi · 13/11/2018 19:23

First thing I thought was viral meningitis, I'm an ex a+e nurse and was hoping you'd gone. Hope you're on the mend soon x

ggirl · 13/11/2018 19:30

I am shocked your GP declined to see you or offer advice , did you tell them the same symptoms you've told us?
Hope you're ok OP.

AdaColeman · 13/11/2018 19:39

When you are well enough, you need to make a complaint to your GP, he was wrong to refuse to see you, and his staff need training in spotting emergencies.

Meningitis was what sprang to mind with your symptoms, especially when you mentioned the pain in your neck.
All the very best wishes for a good recovery. Thanks

Coldhandscoldheart · 13/11/2018 19:56

Glad you’ve been seen one way or another, feel better soon.

Mrspimplepopper · 13/11/2018 20:10

Thankyou everyone

I did explain to the receptionist and tbh I never expected that the gp wouldn't see me. I was shocked and felt silly

I keep having big anxiety flares which is making me feel extra rubbish. I want to feel better to take care of my dc. They are 9 and 7 and are being very good. I keep crying though which isn't helping

Bobbiepin · 13/11/2018 20:14

OP I'm in a similar position, it ended up not being meningitis but another serious condition that landed me in hospital for a week and likely to take months to recover from.

You will know this, but look after yourself. Your DC are old enough to understand that you are seriously unwell and the more you push yourself the longer your recovery will take. Wishing you a speedy recovery Flowers

Mrspimplepopper · 13/11/2018 20:20

I'm sorry you were so unwell bobbiepin

How are you now?

I can't stand feeling like this. I know I'm being pathetic but I feel so very out of control

R U still in hospital?

CoconutQueen · 13/11/2018 20:28

Good gracious, you poor thing OP. Get well soon. Are you back home now or did they keep you in hospital?

Serious complaint to the GP surgery when you have recovered.

reallybadidea · 13/11/2018 20:31

I think I would want to change GP practices after something like this. Utterly shocking that they refused to see you based on your symptoms. At my local surgery everyone requesting an urgent appointment is triaged over the phone by one of the GPs.

MrsMartinRohde · 13/11/2018 20:34

Hope you feel better soon OP. I had similar when my youngest DS was 3 months old. It was viral meningitis as well so thankfully not dangerous but painful af and I had to stay in hospital 5 days while they did the cultures to rule out bacterial. Oramorph was the only thing that took the edge off. Shudder. Please do complain about GP once you're better. I was lucky, it was GP at after hours clinic who sent me home with pain relief and a letter to take to A and E if not better in 2-3 hours. I was disbelieving it was meningitis as neck was fine and wasn't light sensitive but the lumbar puncture didn't lie

Mrspimplepopper · 13/11/2018 20:34

I'm back at home thank goodness
