Many many moons ago, when all this were nout but fields a MNer shared a recipe for a cheesey bnb pudding.
It was lovely, but I forgot about it up until around half an hour ago.
I would really like to make it again, I think it was posted by a Panda, or possibly a Vicar and was probably around 7ish years ago.
I don’t suppose one of you clever googley advanced searchy types could help me have a look for it could you ? Pretty please.
I have gin....Gin

Loitering for a recipe!

DH has something like this with beef in a hotel a while ago and we’ve both been thinking about it dreamily since then.

DaphneFanshaw · 12/11/2018 20:00

It was so bloody nice. I am a bit worried now that it was in chat and is gone forever.

I don't know the recipe you are asking for, but my own recipe is too make cheese sandwiches (cheese and onion is good too) in white bread, cut into triangles layer into a well greased dish. Then make an egg custard (2eggs beaten well, mixed with 1/2 pint of warm milk salt and pepper) pour over bread and let it soak for 1/2 an hour. Wack in the oven at 180 and bake until risen and golden.

I had no idea such a thing existed until clicking on this thread. [shocked]

I LOVE cheese. I love bread. I am appalled at my lack of knowledge.

DaphneFanshaw · 12/11/2018 20:09

Thanks Yorkshire, that sounds pretty similar to the one I made before. I will give it a go. Smile

We used to have this as kids and it was lovely - it used to involve frying onion and cubed bits of bacon together and then using along with cheese to make sarnies, as YorkshireMum describes.

I've been wanting to try making it, but am veggie and worry that it might be a bit bland/lack texture minus the bacon. Maybe fried mushrooms instead?

DBN1 · 12/11/2018 20:11

Ooh, cheeeeeese Smile

DaphneFanshaw · 12/11/2018 20:12

Bee, it is so tasty and really quick and easy to make.
Although I noticed after having a quick google earlier that there are some proper fancy pants recipes around.

Yes, mushrooms would be nice. I think I used to add whole grain mustard and paprika to the eggy mix too.

Sounds YUM.

What did you have it with? 😍

Notatallobvious · 12/11/2018 20:19

Bloody hell, this sounds revolutionary!

DaphneFanshaw · 12/11/2018 20:21

The best thing about this recipe is that it goes with anything, beans, salad, green beans.

Nigella makes it and calls it strata.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/11/2018 20:23

Here's a v simple one that looks a lot like the one my mum used to make

DaphneFanshaw · 12/11/2018 20:28

Ooh, that looks good Remus.

I make this one but leaving out the stilton & just using the 200g cheddar (it's definitely cheesy enough for us that way). I also leave out the mustard as I think it's better without. Really good cold weather food :)

jacquejacque · 12/11/2018 20:31

A friend of mine once made a fancy pants version with crispy bacon, pancetta, brioche and onions for Christmas and I think about it at least weekly

Sadik · 12/11/2018 20:33

I'm not veggie and have made it with & without added bacon Remus - I actually think it's better without. I serve with lots of green veg on the side.

Oooohhhh cheesy bread and butter pudding with rare roast beef, greens and gravy. Hello tonorrow’s dinner! Thanks for this op!

foodiefil · 12/11/2018 20:38

Yes @TeddyIsaHe that's what I'm talking about

SealSong · 12/11/2018 20:40

Omg! This sounds amazing, how have I never come across this concept before.

DBN1 · 27/11/2018 18:11

I made this yesterday! I'd never heard of it before this thread but, if my gosh it's delicious! It tastes like a cross between cheese & onion quiche and a cheese toasty. Lovely and comforting in this weather.
Here's a photo of mine....

The bits that look black are actually fresh parsley.

iklboo · 27/11/2018 18:18

This sounds delicious!

SushiMonster · 27/11/2018 18:29

OMG I need this in my life
