Iceland (the shop) What to buy?

With all the recent publicity, and the good moves they're making towards backing it up, I'd like to try my weekly shop there.
Would appreciate suggestions on what to buy there. Could it be done on a reasonable budget? Is it possible to eat healthy dinners using their food?
How about vegetarians? We have DC who aren't meat eaters, and DC who are.
Thank you Smile

I didn’t love the hash brown fries, though I had high hopes after a similar thread!

They do these meal in a bag things of noodles/rice, meat and veg for about £2.50 that I really rate. I usually chuck in an extra portion of veg and it’s healthy and a good quantity for the price.

Greggs sausage rolls!

HeyMacWey · 11/11/2018 18:20

I like the frozen seafood mixes you can add to pasta.
Quick and easy for a midweek meal.
Most of the fish is pretty good too.

Binglebong · 11/11/2018 18:50

Frozen herbs are good

Nowihaveabureau · 11/11/2018 18:53

There's a really good fish pie in the luxury range. It has prawns in it but I can't remember the exact name. Delicious

Mookie81 · 11/11/2018 18:56

Cauliflower rice, their own brand thick sliced bread, large variety of frozen veg, including avocado halves! They deliver over £20.

The Salmon parcels are delicious, most cheesecakes, the Italian style gelato is fabulous. Lots of their own bakery stuff is great. The ‘takeaway’ ready meals are good and mine sold really good Indian snacks, not the party food ones though, much more authentic (chicken pakoras 💕)

While you’re there it’s always good for large Heinz ketchup, hellmans mayo, Yorkshire tea and giant boxes of cereal and crisps.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 11/11/2018 19:01

Oh and the frozen fish is prett good

Groovee · 11/11/2018 19:03

I buy their 5% fat mince, the cooked sliced chicken. Their stir fry packs are good too!

tillytoodles1 · 11/11/2018 19:07

Salmon parcels and the street food chicken tikka.

itsnowthewaitinggame · 11/11/2018 19:15

I like their frozen fish. Also the packs with child and seafood that you add to pasta ( easy to do your own but these are lovely for a quick meal)
One Christmas a few years ago they did a 'Boozy Goose' it was gorgeous but they never did it again

itsnowthewaitinggame · 11/11/2018 19:16

Packs with chilli not child

slappinthebass · 11/11/2018 19:17

The new vegan range is worth a try for the vegetarians. I've only had the vegan chorizo slices, paella, and the tofu burgers. The vegan chicken in the paella was so 'meaty' I couldn't finish it! But otherwise good. I usually stock up on quorn and other frozen veggie food there too. I heard a rumour that the meat is the same as m&s.

BlackCatsRule88 · 11/11/2018 20:18

Another vote for hash brown fries!

JingsMahBucket · 11/11/2018 20:28

Do they have frozen chicken thighs? I can’t remember. Those would be a good convenience item. Does their frozen meat have a lot water in it? For some reason I thought it did.

BloodyForeigner · 11/11/2018 20:39

Yes To hash brown fries, frozen veg, frozen prawns/seafood, frozen cooked chopped chicken.
Non-frozen stuff can be limited and sometimes more expensive than elsewhere. But oddly I really rate their own brand mature cheddar - much nicer than Tesco or Sainsbury’s.

kierenthecommunity · 11/11/2018 20:54

The Mumbai street food curry range (4 for £5) is great, especially the kale bhajis and aloo matar. That’s got lots of vegetarian/vegan options

This, and they do a Mexican version now which is delicious too.

Their regular ready meals aren’t bad either.

For frozen fruit and veg I actually prefer Farm Foods as the range is bigger. But Iceland is a good second
