Are you in your late 40s & very stiff & achy?

I just want to know how common my experience is? I'm occasionally stiff these days getting up if I've been sitting in one position for a little while. And I have a fair bit of body pain around the lower back/pelvis. It just feels like I'm seizing up. I've no idea about where I am regards Menopause as I've had a hysterectomy years ago but kept my ovaries. If I had to guess, I'd say I have maybe the hormones left from 2/3 tiny periods a year. I don't think I'm totally meno yet. Does anyone else feel they're seizing up & what if anything are you doing about it? I'm considering HRT.

Comes & goes. E.g. I went through a few weeks of my hips feeling really achy & stiff (got better if I stretched a bit) but now it seems fine again. I do get achier more easily now.

Watto1 · 10/11/2018 18:21

My lower back always aches first thing in the morning but it wears off as soon as I get up. It was worse a couple of years ago but changing my mattress and losing weight appears to have helped.

QuickPollPlease · 10/11/2018 18:22

Yes but I sit a lot at work, when I get up I notice it. Lots falling apart now I am this age Angry

I was ok but put on a bit of weight and it’s really noticeable. Everything is just creakier and some bit of me always aches.
Must diet.

PostNotInHaste · 10/11/2018 18:29

Yes, hopefully comes and goes. Was dreadful recently so could barely walk at times but a little better. Think it is worse before period due.

Also if sit for a long time I often feel stiff getting up.

madmum5811 · 10/11/2018 18:34

I went to physio. the stiff back got worse over the years, three pregnancies and a desk job my sacro ilial joint started playing up, one morning I could not get from the bed to the loo every movement agony. He gave me some exercises printed out, now I do them whenever I feel stiff and they loosen me up, ditto with some shoulder ones for rotor cuff problems.

My tall friends with long limbs/back have fared worse, I think being a small person is easier on the body.

picklemepopcorn · 10/11/2018 18:34

Yes. It's a swine.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 10/11/2018 18:36

I'm late thirties and my hips and lower back ache a lot, but I'm very overweight. As I've lost weight, it has eased.

AnyFucker · 10/11/2018 18:37

Yes. It's a peri menopausal thing. I am told it improves when you come out the other side so I am hoping for that.

CurcubitaPepo · 10/11/2018 18:39

I’m late forties, and for me it’s my hands. Been stiff for the last 18 months or so. Been the doc recently and I’ve had my right hand X-rayd because apparently osteo arthritis shows up. Not had result yet, awaiting call from doc. I absolutely bloody hate it!!! Especially as I work outdoors. Youth truly is wasted on the young.

cupofteaandcake · 10/11/2018 18:45

Have a read up about magnesium, this may help you.

PeachyRed · 10/11/2018 18:53

Yeah I heard about magnesium a while ago & I take it now.

ChampagneCommunist · 10/11/2018 18:56

How does magnesium help?

BonfireOfTheVanities4 · 10/11/2018 19:09

I suffer with this too, particularly shoulders and hips.

Kidssendingmenuts · 10/11/2018 19:11

I'm 35 and already like that every day 😂

ineedaholidaynow · 10/11/2018 19:15

This started a couple of years ago for me, went on HRT which eased it, but has flared up again. Mainly hips and lower back, but knees creak and groan too. Need to go back to the doctor to see if I need to up my HRT

cucumbergin · 10/11/2018 19:26

There's a perimenopause support thread that might be handy: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/menopause/3189242-Peri-Menopause-Support-Thread?pg=10&order=

CS12345 · 10/11/2018 19:35

Yep. Really starting to feel my age now. Early signs of arthritis in my hands, hips are fucked and my feet are next to useless in the morning.

LuvMyBoyz · 10/11/2018 20:14

I was so stiff in the mornings when I was in my late 40s that I could barely turn over in bed to get out of it. I started swimming twice a week and the improvement was pretty remarkable. When the pool closed for 3 months and I couldn’t swim, the stiffness came back. Now I have a 5 minute stretch routine each morning, run and swim regularly and never take my stiff-free status for granted.

RCOR · 10/11/2018 20:50

OMG yes! My lower back in particular the past few weeks has been really achy. Was considering going to chiropractor or physio or someone similar to see if something needs adjusting. My hip too incredibly sore these days. I look like an old woman getting out of a chair. Good to know I'm not alone.

vilamoura2003 · 10/11/2018 20:55

Yes - I feel really old even though only 40 however I am overweight. I am conscious that I need to lose weight for health reasons. I only have about 3.5 stone to lose but find myself breathless from even just going up the stairs Shock

YeOldeTrout · 10/11/2018 20:56

I am 51 & not at all seized up.
I suppose I'm aware I don't want to jump down from high places, my knees wouldn't take it kindly. I admire my kids can still jump down fine.

I can inventory a long list of minor health things I manage, but they came on slowly over the years, no acceleration in appearances of new health issues in recent years. I just hope my teeth last the course!

TheCrowFromBelow · 10/11/2018 20:59

I’ve found my tribe! Never mind the bend and snap, I do the oof and grimace now.
I’m going to try Pilates

parrotonmyshoulder · 10/11/2018 21:00

I’m early forties. Regular exercise and very active job.
Absolute agony getting out of the car after driving to and from work. Feet really painful until I’ve been up for a while. Back pain if I sit in a relaxed way on the sofa.
Horrible.

pilates · 10/11/2018 21:06

I cannot recommend pilates highly enough
