I saw the Stone Roses in Belfast Maysfield, Leisure centre and they were diabolical.
Half Man Half Biscuit at Queens University SU were a close second.

I thought Muse were a bit pants at Wembley

Armchairanarchist · 09/11/2018 21:18

Can't decide between Paul Weller and Bryan Adam's, both boring.

AdorableMisfit · 09/11/2018 21:21

Slash's Snake Pit in 1995. Singer off his face on drugs lay down on his back on stage. Made no sense whatsoever. Utter rubbish.

Or Counting Crows. Late 90s. Singer was extremely drunk or on drugs and mumbled through every song. I was so disappointed because I loved them.

Visage at a festival in Germany. Steve Strange was off his face, babbled incoherently and then left the stage. The band soldiered on without him for a while, expecting him to come back. He never did.

There's a theme here... being wasted on stage clearly not a good idea.

Cocolepew · 09/11/2018 21:35

I saw either The Mission or The Sisters of Mercy, think it was SOM and Wayne Hussey stormed off because someone threw something at the stage.
Everyone then shouted abuse at him for 20 minutes until they came back on.

Elton John - sure he was fab but I drank whisky all the way there & remembered nothing about the whole experience!!

LizzieBennettDarcy · 09/11/2018 21:42

The Human League in the 80s. Torture to the ears. Phil Oakey was OK but the two backing singers..... jesus, it was horrific. We were torn between laughing and crying!!

Lately I'd say Muse at the O2 arena. We'd seen them a few years on the Resistance tour at the Emirates Stadium and were completely blown away. The Drones tour was dull, loud and they had zero stage presence. We left towards the end to get out of the car park (having driven 6 hours to get there).

mossyroundhill · 10/11/2018 07:41

Can't believe some of these bands were bad live... Blur, Muse, Human League??? Makes me glad I save my money on gig tickets and listen to music very loudly in my car instead.

Sitranced · 10/11/2018 07:49

@mossyroundhill yep that gig was shite. I was so pissed off I missed Gong at the Glade for that tripe.

Amy Winehouse the year before was awful too but she was off her face.

WhoopiGoldbergsCat · 10/11/2018 08:19

Oasis at the Millennium statium, Cardiff in 2009.
It was one of their last gigs (if not the last?), they obviously weren't speaking to each other at this stage, they looked like they really didn't want to be there. No interaction with the crowd at all.
I was gutted as I used to love them in their hayday, and had waited many years to get the chance to see them.

EastMidsGPs · 10/11/2018 08:48

Thompson Twins Nottingham back in their err heyday. What were we thinking?

House of Love Derby Assembly Rooms, took us longer to get to the venue than the band were on stage - Guy Chadwick had a hissy fit 10 minutes or so in and walked off Hmm never to return

EastMidsGPs · 10/11/2018 08:56

And how can I forget my friend and i being thrown out roughly manhandled by bouncers of an Elvis Costello gig at Rock City in the early 80s. Our crime? Friend took photo of Mr C. She is 5'5" I am 5'1" but by the way we were bundled out of the crowd and to the doors, you'd have thought we were rugby props.

Kannet · 10/11/2018 08:59

Britney Spears just recently. Mined the whole thing, Zero interaction with the audience. We actually laughed afterwards with some other people that we almost admired her for having the gall to charge and be so bad.

EastMidsGPs · 10/11/2018 08:59

Echo and The Bunnymen at Bradford City Hall, band obviously didn't want to be there, weren't speaking, no acknowledgement of each other and were just going through the motions to fulfill their contract. Awful shame as to see them in their earlier career was quite awesome.

Patroclus · 10/11/2018 09:18

Badly Drawn Boy does the abusive arsehole thing every single gig.

Santaispolishinghissleigh · 10/11/2018 09:23

Michael Bolton a few weeks ago.
Came on stage like Bren's dm in Dinner ladies.
Was off stage more than on, had sax player performances and backing singers solo's. He sang more cover songs than his own, was like a karaoke with poor wannabes.
Asysmal.
And had paid £140 to sit behind the sound man..

Branleuse · 10/11/2018 09:26

I saw kings of leon at the o2 once and didnt realise that the tickets were practically in the fucking ceiling. The sound quality was really terrible too. Could barely see them. Id have had a better time watching them on dvd.

Ive seen them again a couple of times at festivals and the sound has been dreadful there too. Shame as they are great on studio albums but i wonder if they just dont work live

Mmmmdanone · 10/11/2018 09:27

Pearl jam. I was so looking forward to it but they were soooo dull on stage. EV just mumbled incoherently into the mic between songs and hardly moved at all while singing.

insancerre · 10/11/2018 09:33

Glasvegas
We walked out
They were just awful

Also the drums supporting Florence and the machine
We made our way to the bar

Jesus and mary chain
They played for 20 minutes

The smiths in Newcastle
Someone spat at Morrissey and he stormed off in a huff before returning to finish the gig

insancerre · 10/11/2018 09:34

And badly drawn boy
What an arsehole

slug · 10/11/2018 09:56

The Fall though to be fair it was always hit and miss with them. The support act was dire. Once they left the stage it was an hour before the band came on without Mark E Smith. Half way through the second song he lurched onto the stage obviously pissed out of his mind clutching a brown paper bag with lyrics scrawled on it. Par for the course for The Fall really. At least it didn't descend into a fight onstage though it looked like it was going to at one point.

A close second was Dogstar at Glastonbury. Totally dire and only enlivened by the bottling all aimed at the bass player (Keanu Reeves)

BertyFlanter · 10/11/2018 10:06

Ooh, I've a few.
@Santaispolishinghissleigh I saw Michael Bolton a couple of weeks ago too, and agree it was terrible. Which is a shame because I saw him at the same small venue a few years ago and he was great.

Joss Stone was terrible, came on V V V late appeared off her face and warbled repeatedly into the microphone for the whole set. Couldn't tell one song from another.

Madonna American life tour I think. Gutted she was so terrible as I'd been a life long fan

But I think the winner was Rihanna, another very late arrival (resulting in most people leaving early for the last train, appeared she grabbed random singers and dancers of the street. I'd bet my house they all hadn't met 10 mins before the show. She also appeared to be high as a kite, and I wished she had mimed as she was bloody awful. I actually tweeted her during the show that if she had any artistic integrity she would refund everyone sat in front of her right now. She didn't reply 😂

Kernowgal · 10/11/2018 10:40

Kings of Leon at Shepherds Bush empire. Dull as fuck. They played Sex on Fire and mine was anything but.

Happy Mondays in the mid-90s. Stereo MCs supporting. MCs were amazing, Mondays were pure shite. Shaun Ryder was off his face.

RoboticMary · 10/11/2018 11:21

Madonna, Katy Perry and Rihanna were the worst. Unbelievably bad. Was so disappointed by all three Sad

Paul McCartney has years on them, but was light years better! In fantastic voice. I didn’t want the concert to end! Smile

fourquenelles · 10/11/2018 12:10

Wishbone Ash, Southend Kursaal 1973. Me and 20 other people. A wall of indescribable noise. I have never been so bored before or since. I am scarred I tell you, scarred.

PavlovianLunge · 10/11/2018 12:26

The Waterboys in Kilburn. I could have cried out of sheer boredom.

Human League in (I think) Croydon, Phil Oakey’s voice kept giving out on him, not good.

Madonna at Wembley around the time of Vogue. Self-indulgent and tedious. She’d clearly decided that swearing was edgy and said nothing but ‘fuck’ for what felt like five minutes. Pillock.
