80s toys I wish I could buy new for my kids!!

My thoughts are turning to Christmas presents for my two five year old girls and as I look through the offerings of slime-pooing unicorns I wish they still made the 80s toys of my five year old dreams ....
Keypers
Brush a loves
Sweet Secrets
Pound Puppies

My girls would love them...someone would make a mint if they brought them all back!

Speak and Spell!!

I loved my Pippa dolls. I thought they were much prettier than Sindy or Barbie and their knee joints didn't break so easily. They had really long hair. I also like that they were smaller. I had a bit of a fascination with small dolls and teddy bears at the time. I also loved these tiny thumb sized soft rubbery baby dolls you could get from our newsagents. They had tactile velvety type clothes if I remember correctly.

I wish you could still buy the My Little Pony Dream Castle and Lullaby Nursery. I still have the latter but it isn't in great condition.

My Mum throws away little so we still have lots of the original FP toys. I managed to find a medical kit in a charity shop years back. I also had a beautiful cot and high chair which I passed on but recently found a cot in the charity shop - it rocks and plays music.

I still have my original sylvanian families and some flower fairies.

I search charity shops for old versions of games so have Go for Broke, Game of Life etc

Little professor, though ours now is an ebay replacement.

Dh has some fab cars from his childhood.

@neddle thanks!
I nearly got it right... fall down / downfall Grin

BrickByBrick · 08/11/2018 18:18

I had a keypeer but sent it to the charity shop.

BrickByBrick · 08/11/2018 18:21

We still have the old Caroline's home, though I am gutted as it was dsis and she has just left it untouched and shoved up a corner and my dm refuses to talk to her about it. I would have had it.

So I’ve just moved house and from loft I have most of these things
All keypers, ghost castle, big yellow teapot, a opulent of polly pockets..
Wish it hadn’t gone to storage so I could ebay it!
Great thread

1happyhippie · 08/11/2018 20:14

Oh I love this thread! I remember most of these toys.
I loved popples, pound puppies and flower fairies.

I had a lights alive that I thought was brill. I managed to get one of eBay a few year ago for dd1. She wasn't that impressed, I loved it!

Can anyone remember jem? Like a barbie doll, she was part of a rock band, you could collect them all, they had bright coloured hair? I played with those all the time!

Iamtheoneandonly2018 · 08/11/2018 20:16

I had a pocket Simon! Loved it!

Travellinghopefully2018 · 08/11/2018 20:20

So much envy for those with my little pony stables and nurseries! I had the dream castle and it was way better than the shite MLP stuff they charge a fortune for now. Nearly bid on vintage nurseries a couple of times but so pricy!

Speak and spell and little professor immediately sprung to mind for me. I suppose they’ve been replaced by apps and tablets though but I loved mine!

Retreatbynameretreatbynature · 08/11/2018 20:33

I bought a Speak and Spell from eBay, second hand but great condition. It took me right back!
I had an Alice in Wonderland doll which had a space in her back where you put a little record/disc and she spoke. She was brilliant, I’d love to find one for my teenage DD. Or maybe keep her for myself!

HalfBloodPrincess · 08/11/2018 20:42

@1happyhippie I loved jem! I have a kimber, Roxanne and pizzazz doll still, although I’ve lost Roxanne original clothes. I think I might have had a jem at one point as kimber has her earrings in 😂

mocha70 · 08/11/2018 20:45

Sindy in her ballet costume with her house and floodlit swimming pool..although maybe more 70s than 80s.

BadgerFace · 08/11/2018 20:58

Speak and Spell and Brite Lite!

1happyhippie · 08/11/2018 20:59

@halfbloodprincess
That's fantastic! I wish I still had mine, I thought they were so cool!
I might have a look on eBay and see what's still around.

winesolveseverything · 08/11/2018 21:06

The shoes with the key... Magic steps!! I had a pair and loved them! I still have the key in my jewellery box today. Do you remember the advert that went with them- a little girl in a forest with a witch I think!!

I had a doll that went from make up and nail nail polish to nothing if you used cotton wool with hot or cold water on... And the doll that grew her hair...

Ahh, it's almost making me wish I had a daughter- 2 boys here- they'd be most unimpressed with my old toys!!

Twodogsandahooch · 08/11/2018 21:32

The girl in the magic steps advert went to my school!

SinkGirl · 08/11/2018 21:33

Speak and Spell!

and Teddy Ruxbin, although I actually have my teddy Ruxbin in the loft but he’s broken :(

I don’t like the re-make of 80’s toys that they have tried to bring back. Strawberry shortcake, Cabbage Patch Dolls, Care Bears, My Little Pony. Just not the same modernised.

Starlight345 · 08/11/2018 21:51

I loved my sisters game Alley cats . Just looked it up and it’s £30 in a scruffy box.

Also purple people eater

I had an amazing game the spider and the fly . The spider was on a stick and span round the web.

I also lived pippa dolls but my favourite was a ballerina sindy

janaus · 08/11/2018 21:55

My Child Dolls

Ourmaud · 08/11/2018 21:58

Sindy’s country mansion. I remember it having working lights and a carriage house. I often scour eBay looking for one

HalfBloodPrincess · 08/11/2018 22:01

Did anyone else have a babyface doll? They were amazing (and ugly😂) and you could get all different ethnicities.

I had this one, she was called So Happy Heidi, but I gave her away as I was convinced she winked at me one night 😂😂😬

80s toys I wish I could buy new for my kids!!
Flobalob · 08/11/2018 22:34

My kids love playing with my old Downfall and Guess Who. Both proper, solid toys. Bought them a Little Professor recently too.

JaiNotJay · 08/11/2018 22:39

I think I've still got a popple and a couple of pound puppies up in my parents' attic! I always wanted a Rainbow Brite doll but Santa never obliged...
