Reusable Sanitary Products

Can anyone personally recommend tried and tested reusable sanitary pads? I'm looking for something panty-liner sized/absorbency and something for light to med flow. There seem to be a multitude on Amazon but many have reviews saying they tend to slip or are too wide for the gusset. I really want to stop contributing to landfill but need something comfortable enough for mid cycle wear if needed. TIA.

I have just started using cloth mama towels - I haven’t found that they slip out of position, and they are just as comfortable as the disposables. They washed well too.

I use cheeky wipes ones, they're good do the job. If they slip then turn them 180 degrees so the front is now the back.

Cheeky

I've tried several brands over the years and the brand I've found best (as in, suit me best) are imse vimse. I haven't used the panty liner size but I use the long pads every month - they wash well, they're comfy, not bulky, don't seem to slip and not too expensive.

I like the Cheeky Wipes ones too.
The all cotton ones are thinner than the other type. I have only light to medium flow, and use the normal ones for the first day or two, and the panty liners thereafter.

Thanks all, really helpful.

I like the honouryourflow products. They have loads of different sizes and they're well made and don't go out of shape.

TCS are great I used them before going onto a cup and I have a heavy flow I also have a stock of their light and teen range in preparation for Dd1 needing them (hopefully not for awhile)

How many do you need to buy? I dont have a tumble dryer.

Oooops link didn’t quite condense like
I wanted it too!
I have about 30 and they last me the full week (when I’m not pregnant I bleed for about 5 days with a heavy flow day 2&3) and I usually just hand rinse them without soap, leave them to dry in my bathroom and then at the end of the cycle throw them in the washing machine altogether. Sometimes I don’t even rinse them (I leave them in a plastic tub in the bathroom) and it doesn’t seem to damage them in any way.

I use the Cheeky wipes pantyliners for daily use and the first few days of my period, they're suitable for light to medium flow I feel.

They will slip if you put them in the wrong way around. Mine tend to slip from front to back, so I check when I put them in that sliding them from front to back catches the pile (it feels rough not smooth), then they stay put. They're a good size though and mine have two poppers, so you can adjust how narrow they go.

The first ones I bought were unbleached cotton which I really liked, then I ventured into the patterned ones. Have only bought the liners though, not any of the other items.

Tiredbadger · 08/11/2018 11:55

Bloom and Nora are the best I've tried so far.

QuilliamCakespeare · 08/11/2018 13:00

I had no idea there were so many options out there. Where there are different materials to choose from -charcoal, minky, cotton, etc. - what have people gone for?

How does it all work logistically though? Do you wash them with other clothes, or save them all up until the end of your period?
I don’t tend to do the washing (quirk of our division of labour) but wouldn’t want to make someone else handle them.

BurningGubbins · 08/11/2018 13:28

And what do you do if you need to change when you’re out? Plastic bag in your handbag? Is that really less landfill-y?

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 08/11/2018 13:30

Mine came with a bag to store them in once used whilst I was out and about.

I tend to wash them all in one go, on a hot wash and then throw in the tumble dryer on gentle.

NannyR · 08/11/2018 13:36

I have a small bucket with a lid, used pads get soaked in there. At the end of my period I put them in the washer and run a short, cold rinse cycle, then add the rest of my laundry as usual. The pads I use fold up and can be secured with the popper, a bit like a little envelope, when I'm out and about, I fold up used ones like that and put them in a small toiletry type bag in my handbag.

Hellomumsne · 08/11/2018 13:37

I bought Cheeky Wipes but the pads travel all the way up my tummy so don't work at all! I'm not sure why they work for sone and not for others. I've been looking at period pants instead to partner with my Lunette cup for spills. It's frustrating that washable pads don't seem to stay in place for me.

ODZFODZ · 08/11/2018 13:42

WUKA pants are your friend. Tried the pads, they are a PITA, need soaking etc and move around. Pants go straight in wash and are so comfy. About £25 a pair and I'd say you need 4 as an absolute minimum but so worth it.

FuzzyShadowChatter · 08/11/2018 14:04

I second the WeeNotions, lovely products. I have the PeaPods which work for menstruation and stress incontinence. Mine are cotton and really make things so much easier. The poppers stay way better than any disposable ever did!

I have a lined bag that I also got from WeeNotions that I use for carrying and storing them, it has two pockets - the main one for clean and an inner one for used ones.

For logistics, I tend to wipe them with a bit of loo roll when I go to the toilet and when done put them in with the rest of the laundry. I haven't had any issues with it but I can see why some prefer to soak and do them separately.

BurningGubbins · 09/11/2018 00:20

Thanks all, and sorry for the hijack. This has been on my mind a bit.

AwdBovril · 09/11/2018 00:57

I have Imse Vimse pads - night, regular, & mini. Very comfortable. IME they don't tend to move about. They have 2 poppers so there is a bit of leeway re: how tight you can fasten them. Definitely recommend.
