What do you think of dark brown walls?

We're about to decorate our newly combined dining room/lounge. We're not changing the existing curtains which are brown/orange/green in the dining room and brown in the lounge.

We've currently got a boring light coloured neutral shade on the walls. I want to be a bit bolder so I thought of dark brown which would go with existing soft furnishings. Dh doesn't agree, he said it will look like poo (literally!).

Thoughts please? Or any other colour recommendations?

Another vote for teal, maybe you could move the teal bits in from the rest of the house?

When I was a child, I we moved into a house which was decorated dark brown all over. Dark brown wallpaper, carpets, kitchen, a bathroom tiles... The only thing that wasn't dark brown was the bathroom suite, and which was salmon coloured (it looked just as grim as it sounds). The first thing my dad did was paint everywhere and rip all the carpets out. We called the house 'The Cave' until it was redecorated! I was astounded at how much bigger the rooms felt afterwards, the whole place was very dark and depressing when we moved in.

Have a look at @myoffthewallinterior on Instagram. She has dark brown walls in her downstairs rooms and they look amazing.

Our spare bedroom has two walls painted in that chocolate/fawn fudgey sort of colour. It suits the room, but does absorb the light. I don't think I'd want the whole room in that colour.

I have feature walls in my living room and dining room....a rich chocolate brown. Other walls are a cream with a yellow base rather than a pink. Curtains are brown, lots of little lights dotted about, but I like living in a cave.

We have green walls with brown rugs/sofas/cushions/curtains. Could you get the green/blue colour from your curtains and replicate that? It would enhance the curtains too.....
