Just listening to it now and singing along loudly Grin (I was 20 I think when Jagged Little Pill came out), I'd forgotten how good it was!

Its like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 06/11/2018 16:51

Loved a bit of Alannis however, I also worked as a theatre usher as a student and she has a lot to fucking answer for in terms of “instigation of inappropriate behaviour in a public place” offenses!

We had a code word for people spotted doing the nasty in a box. It wasn’t “Alannis” but it should have been.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 06/11/2018 16:53

*@Sitranced * I always sang that line as "It's like ten thousand pounds when all you need is a dime"

misheard lyrics Blush

'Ironic' is a bit crap.

But I must admit I do like the sheer rage of You Oughta Know.

Loved that album when I was 20. We're probably the same age OP. The 90s were great Grin

MistyMinge · 06/11/2018 16:55

I played that album over and over. Great memories.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 06/11/2018 16:55

@LuggsaysNotaWomen you mean she's not perverted like me and wouldn't go down on you in a theatre?

That song, All American Reject's "Gives you Hell" and Beyonce's Irreplaceable pretty much got me through my marriage break up with my ex!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 06/11/2018 16:57

I downloaded that a couple of months ago and - much like when I was about 14 - I listened to it on repeat for days.

Absolute belter. Love the whole album.

Perfectpanda01 · 06/11/2018 16:58

Uninvited is fantastic too. I wonder if it is about her falling for a married man?

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 06/11/2018 17:01

I used to like her, but 'Ironic' put me off. None of the examples she gives are 'ironic' - they're disappointing/annoying/frustrating, but they're not ironic.

Varmints · 06/11/2018 17:03

Loved you oughta know (now got it in my head)

Helmetbymidnight · 06/11/2018 17:03

People were going down on their fellas in the movie theatre long before Alanis.

She was great though wasn’t she!

scrappydappydoo · 06/11/2018 17:10

Loved this album when it came out! Have you seen this

LucilleBluth · 06/11/2018 17:14

I loved the album too. I saw her live when she released the one after. It was one of the most boring concerts I've ever been to.

prampushingdownthehighst · 06/11/2018 17:15

She had the fantastic Taylor Hawkins on tour with her too, lucky lady

TinselAngel · 06/11/2018 17:17

It was such a great album.

Then she went to India and went crap.

sheepsheep · 06/11/2018 17:24

I love her music, but watching her live performances is like watching a game of tennis.

dontalltalkatonce · 06/11/2018 17:27

That album is ace. 'And are you thinking of me when you fuck her?' I was so shocked when I first heard that.

Pinkyponkcustard · 06/11/2018 17:29

Omg! I put jagged little pill on in the car for the first time in years this morning. What an album!

EmpressJewel · 06/11/2018 17:48

I adored this album. Particularly you oughta know - great when I was an angsty teen.

Thesearmsofmine · 06/11/2018 17:51

So weird, I opened this post and she came on now the radio! Maybe Absolute radio have been reading Mumsnet.

Halfeatentoast · 06/11/2018 17:55

Tis awesome! Saw her at Wembley Arena back in the day.

FrightsaidRed · 06/11/2018 19:23

Is this the album with the hidden track at the end where she talks about going to his house when he isn’t there and listening to his music and finding love letters from another woman? Such a great song ...though I find the breaking in thing a bit creepy!

FrightsaidRed · 06/11/2018 19:27

Answering my own question - yes it is (just looked it up).

Mary Jane and Forgiven were two of my absolute favourites. I was a full on ragey teen / early twenties and Alanis / Evanescence were my go-to music and still are on occasions when it’s all got too much!

Shirleyphallus · 06/11/2018 19:29

“You Learn” is such a fantastic song

Loved Alanis. She seemed so cool to my 14 year old self.

PotteryGirl · 06/11/2018 19:31
