Temperature of 40.8?

Should I been calling 111 to get him in to OOH? It's DH, doesn't do doctors etc just wants to rest and sleep it off, he's been vomiting this evening, had medication. When do I intervene? It's the highness of the temperature that's worrying me the most, he's boiling to touch.

Butterfly. Those indicators are very late ones arnt they ? It concerns me that 111 are giving those out as sepsis signs as by the time it's got to that stage your in a very serious condition.

*Butterfly....

There are many more symptoms of sepsis*

Yes I’m fully aware that they are not all the symptoms of sepsis! However if a patient has those symptoms and are severely ill, it would trigger the ambulance response (I.e., we would send an emergency ambulance).
We do not just give these out as sepsis signs....if you look on the nhs choices website you will see a whole range of symptoms.

I was just wondering if he had those particular symptoms....which would suggest to op to call for an ambulance. As she said she could drive and hasn’t received a call back yet, I said that she should just take him to hospital straight away and not wait for a callback. At the end of the day, we are not there in the same room as him so that would be the safest option.

WongaGoneWronga · 05/11/2018 12:40

Cold hands and feet can be an indication of shock. Hopefully he's been seen by now, but if not, please get him looked a thing by someone asap.

Hope your DH is doing okay OP 🤞

I'd hazard a guess he's in hospital.

To anyone reading this thread, don't mess about waiting for 111 if a member of your family is this ill. All his symptoms plus a 'boiling' body and cold hands and feet is an immediate medical assistance job. Don't waste time, don't worry about tomorrow, get help.

HoleyCoMoley · 05/11/2018 14:03

I agree with kisscub, MN is not the place to seek medical advice, nor is waiting for 111 to call you back, a temperature this high with all the other symptoms needs urgent attention.

Enko · 05/11/2018 15:04

hope he is ok

amusedbush · 05/11/2018 15:10

My mum had flu symptoms, a temperature, wanted to sleep, etc earlier this year. She woke my dad in the night, delirious and babbling absolute nonsense, and she was blue lighted to hospital with sepsis.

mousegirl1103 · 05/11/2018 15:29

Hope things are good this morning and OH got the help he needed.

candlehigh · 05/11/2018 16:53

I ended up ringing an ambulance he's got sepsis hopefully caught in time, I'm a mess, if I hadn't of rung an ambulance he would of died I can't get my head around that

Oh my god what a shock @candlehigh thank god you called an ambulance! Really hope he is ok xxx

Borntobeamum · 05/11/2018 17:03

Oh my goodness! I hope he improves soon. X x

Juanbablo · 05/11/2018 17:05

Gosh, I hope he makes a speedy recovery. Well done for calling that ambulance when you did.

KipperTheFrog · 05/11/2018 17:06

But you did call the ambulance, and now he's being treated. Focus on that, not what may have been. You did the right thing.
Flowers for you. Hope he recovers quickly.

HoleyCoMoley · 05/11/2018 18:00

He's in the right place, hope he recovers quickly and feels better.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 05/11/2018 18:11

Good call! I was in the same situation with DH years ago, he kept telling me he just needed to sleep and to leave him alone but he had sepsis; they said another couple of house and he would have been gone.

Humans are surprisingly fragile.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/11/2018 18:45

You trusted your instincts and your instincts were right Well done Flowers

Hope your DH makes a swift recovery.

madeyemoodysmum · 05/11/2018 18:56

Thank goodness I'm glad he is in hospital now.

The sepsis campaign is really helping raise awareness as it's the first thing I thought of when you said his symptoms.

HashTagLil · 05/11/2018 19:41

Well done OP, you listened to your instincts and not what your DH was telling you. You saved his life.

greathat · 05/11/2018 19:46

Glad you called. I was similar when o had pneumonia, kept telling dh it must just be flu. He made the appointment and took me there. They thought I had sepsis for a while...

sm40 · 05/11/2018 20:18

Just read this. Glad you went to hospital. You had me at flu and sickness. My symptoms of sepsis. So easy to miss. I thought I had a cold and sickness bug at once.
I spent a week in icu so hope he's ok. When things have settled down look on the sepsis trust website, it's a great source of advice!
It's being treated. Don't think of the what ifs. He's in the right place now.

Owlwantstoshare · 05/11/2018 20:57

Thank goodness you got him
Seen. Hope he’s soon over the worst. Look after yourself too. You could well be in shock Flowers

NewYoiker · 05/11/2018 21:05

Bloody hell hope you're okay and he's in the best place now

LimaHotel4 · 05/11/2018 21:20

Really glad to hear that you made the decision to call an ambulance. I had sepsis last year, I can remember just feeling ‘not quite right’ and feeling much more tired for a few days before I eventually needed to go to A&E. On the day I went to A&E, I can remember my pulse being very rapid (around 150), even when I had been sitting down working for half an hour. As the day went on, I started to feel extremely tired. Eventually, my forehead began to feel like it was burning and as I stood up, I experienced severe chest pain.

When I got home, I was convinced that it was just ine of those ‘24 hour bugs’ and that all I needed was some paracetamol and a good nights’ sleep. By sheer chance, I decided to check my temperature just in case. It was 38.6 - within an hour I was at A&E, on IV antibiotics and diagnosed with sepsis. I was told that if I had delayed going to A&E an hour longer, the outcome would likely not have been good.

DH is in the best place, the sooner he starts on treatment, the better the chance of a good outcome, even if he didn’t recieve treatment quite as soon as ideal. I spent a week in hospital and did suffer a few side-effects afterwards for a few months, particularly fatigue (have a look at Post-Sepsis Syndrome), but otherwise, I have fully recovered and I am now back to my normal self.

Best of luck to you and DH.

BifsWif · 05/11/2018 21:21

I’m so pleased you rang, my first thought reading your thread was sepsis too.

I hope you’re ok, you’ve had a nasty shock too. Wishing your DH a speedy recovery Flowers

Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 05/11/2018 21:27
