What do you do in the evening?

Looking for ideas of things to do in the evening. Spending a lot of time sitting on the sofa watching tv or on the Internet. Need to shirt my behind .

Do you have kids OP? I feel like I never stop. Clean kitchen, wipe down surfaces, sweep floors. Set out breakfast things for the next morning, school bags, uniforms. Check calendars for anything happening tomorrow. Lay out my own clothes for the next day, round up keys/phone/handbag. Put away drifts of random stuff that seems to appear in every room of the house.

We also walk the dog, sometimes exercise, read, do work stuff, and I'm very slowly working on the GCHQ puzzle book. If we do watch some TV DH irons at the same time and I fold washing and put it away.

The exception is Sunday night where we do "Sunday night business" - DH and I sit down with laptops and diaries and go over the week ahead, days in/out, who's doing pickups, babysitting, pay any bills, do a meal plan and online shop. We also do longer range planning, holidays, insurance, budgeting.

hmmwhatatodo · 03/11/2018 21:50

That sounds like a very grown up Sunday.

I spend all day looking forward to doing just that! Grin

RainbowBriteRules · 03/11/2018 21:54

Exactly what Xiaoxiong said. Evenings are full of tidying, organising, dealing with clutter, sorting school stuff etc. I never ever achieve as much as a should and can only dream of an evening sat on the sofa.

Doggorun · 03/11/2018 21:55

sitting on the sofa watching tv or on the Internet

Sounds like bliss!

Honestly though, you're allowed to get off the train of life and have a daily break.

bumblebee39 · 03/11/2018 21:58

Watch documentaries
Read
Write
Study
Google things
Come on here
Remind DD a million times to go to bed
Have a bath or shower
Do the dishes
Fold the laundry

lucysmam · 03/11/2018 21:59

I sit on the sofa, with a giant mug of tea (sometimes push the boat out & have a glass of wine!), and surf t'interweb or read or watch tv.

Occasionally I'm still trying to catch up with myself but mostly things are done by the time dd2 is tucked up at 8pm, and I sit down!

I sometimes have an 'ooh, I could do X' moment, but it soon passes :)

WipsGlitter · 03/11/2018 22:03

Spend way too much time on my phone. I hate myself for doing it. DH works on his laptop. I need a hobby.

Mayra1367 · 03/11/2018 22:06

My kids are grown now finding I have too much time on my hands.makes me realities much I did for my kids and how they kept me busy .

My DC are almost grown up now and I have rediscovered the joy of learning languages or learning generally (FutureLearn is a great starting point).
And perhaps I'll take up knitting again.

TheWickedWitchofWestYorkshire · 03/11/2018 23:02

I usually just veg out in front of the tv whilst mindlessly scrolling through fb/mn. Occasionally though I set up a still life scene on my dining room table and take a photo of it. Then I spend a few hours editing and manipulating it on the laptop. Once a week I go to camera club - it gets me out of the house at least!

OvO · 03/11/2018 23:04

I cross stitch.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/11/2018 23:07

Go to the gym?

Justgivemesomepeace · 03/11/2018 23:09

Tidy, sort school stuff, clean kitchen, run eldest dd to clubs, washing, on line shop. I'm lucky if I sit down by 9pm and I'm in bed at 10 to get up at 6. Life in the fast lane here.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 03/11/2018 23:13

Apart from the usual household chores:

yoga
running/bike ride (haven’t been doing this lately due to pregnancy but am going to start in a week)
I’ve started writing a book and dedicate at least an hour a day to write a few pages
sometimes I’ll watch tv but rarely
listen to music
I’ve recently started to learn to play the guitar and am having lessons so I’ll practise
read
browse social media

BigGlasses · 03/11/2018 23:18

Up until about 9pm it’s normally household stuff, then dh and I often watch an episode of whatever box set we are working our way through- one episode a night. But that is only about 2 or 3 nights a week. The other nights i’m out doing a team sport, or at some committee meeting or something (community council, scouts, pta ) and other nights dh is out cycling or swimming so there is more household stuff to do and I don’t sit down til about 10 and then it’s just internet surfing

hellokittymania · 04/11/2018 01:51

Up until very recently, I had no Wi-Fi when I was in Greece. So I would usually Play boardgames, read, color or draw, do jigsaw puzzles, my Greek became very very good because my flatmates We're not able to speak any English. So Innoway I'm glad there was no Wi-Fi. We would often go out to get souvlaki or something in the evening as well.

beclev24 · 04/11/2018 04:23

I have DCs but try not to do anything much after putting them to bed as I really need a break by this point (i clear up kitchen etc after dinner and try to do laundry etc during the day- I work from home which makes this easier.) . I'm always too tired to do anything too productive or active like exercise etc.

In the evenings I either go out with friends (once every couple of weeks probably) watch Netflix series with DH (we have something on the go usually), go on mumsnet, read, send emails, listen to podcasts, have a bath etc. I think when the kids are older I will have more energy to do more things like hobbies etc. Or maybe not. I'd like to do less social media type stuff and more reading.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 04/11/2018 04:28

My dc are grown up now. I gp to the gym most evenings after work. I get back about 9.15pm and am so shattered i usually Just have a shower and go to bed.

I'm also a parish councillor and I belong to two reading groups so those activities also keep me busy.

Welshmum16 · 04/11/2018 06:39

Start a hobby,
Volunteer, (guides/scouts are usually evenings)
Swimming,
Join a club
Or just start something at home

SaltyMyDear · 04/11/2018 06:47

I know what you mean. Now my kids are older I have too much time on my hands.

I go to choir one night a week.

I speak to my Mum one night a week.

In summer I go for long walks but in winter I feel really trapped.

I’m struggling to find something to keep me occupied in the evening. Mostly I go to bed early.

8FencingWire · 04/11/2018 06:52

I’ve restarted doing pilates a few weeks back, after a couple of year’s break. I would do it twice a week, but it’s really expensive, so I stick to one for now.
I normally run 2-3 times a week. But now it’s dark, I reserve this for days off.
I go to meditation classes once a week.
And I’m restarting swimming in the pool next week, I plan to do this 2-3 times a week.
What I really really want to do is play cards with someone. I need to find 2-3 people, bung a pizza in the oven, open a beer and play cards for a couple of hours. I’d really love that.

sunsalutations · 04/11/2018 07:11

I'm an amateur musician so out playing in different groups / gigs 2-3 nights per week. The rest I just veg on the sofa, after doing the chores

Mayra1367 · 04/11/2018 07:24

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, some good ideas . Looking forward to the spring when I’ll be pottering around the garden and able to walk the dog at night .
