In the way home from in laws and though I would nip in shops only turned the car to soon and crash into a bollard. Had to ring dh to come and rescue me. When he got to me he was wetting himself laughing, always on about me being a crap driver. I’m never going to live this down.

I once reversed a campervan over a bollard in Australia. Then I had to saw the bollard off to free the van Blush luckily the person that owned the bollard thought it was funny!

My dh once parked in a car park at a country house that had lanes seperated by enormous logs and forgot the log was in front of his car. He went to drive off and nearly beached his car on the log. It left a big dent in the bottom of his car.

Warm summer's evening (relevant). DH was directing me in a town I'd never been to before but he used to know it well. I turned right, as directed, but it had since been pedestrianised and there were now bollards. I braked but the brakes just went hard and totally failed (whole other thread) so I drove into said bollard... right in front of a pub with about 50 people drinking outside. Oh how they laughed. It resulted in our first major row.

Mine's not a bollard, and I haven't hit anything yet, but the street I moved to this week has the entrance narrowed, so you have to start to turn slightly early than you would for the normal sized street. One way, though, so a little easier all round.

I backed into a post in the works van. The transport guy was probably more amused than annoyed (though I was quite young so he may have felt sorry for me)

I wrapped my car door around a low bollard in a car park, just didn’t know it was right next to my parking space and I turned too soon rather than going forward out of the space. Car had to have a whole new door.

I’ve driven over a traffic island in the middle of a road and burst one tyre and split another. All because the car coming towards me which wasn’t close at first, suddenly accelerated when I pulled out and I was trying to get out of his way.
I should have waited till he’d passed but I was already half way across the road and had to make a split second decision and I made the wrong one.

But in the grand scheme of things, I’ve been driving for twenty years and all the days without incident you don’t think of so don’t beat yourself up OP.
If anything, it will make you be more cautious next time and aware of your surroundings and that’s not a bad thing.

In related incidents, DD (who is 4) broke the car door handle yesterday, it's stuck shut with the child lock on.

I've reversed into posts a few times. They used to have them at my local railway station, were very low and my car wasn't clever enough to have parking sensors. I must have hit them at least three times over the years.

But if it makes you feel better OP a couple of years ago I was visiting a nature reserve near Heathrow and going into its car park. Rather than having the overhead gantry to deter travellers, it had a very narrow entrance which looked like a canal with no water in it. You had to drive very carefully through it. Anyway, as I was getting to the end someone was coming towards me to exit. It put me off for a split second, turned the steering wheel a fraction too soon and it was a like a can opener going along the side of the car. Ended up costing about £280 to fix the paintwork damage. Most of the cars in the car park had paintwork damage! I went back the following year but got someone else to drive and thanks to my warnings (and someone who was standing nearby and guided them in) they avoided the same fate.
