Turned to soon and crashed into a bollard. I’m never going to live this down.

In the way home from in laws and though I would nip in shops only turned the car to soon and crash into a bollard. Had to ring dh to come and rescue me. When he got to me he was wetting himself laughing, always on about me being a crap driver. I’m never going to live this down.

OP do you think if your husband thinks you’re not a good driver, and you’re perching your car on bollards that maybe you could do with some referesher driving lessons?

millkcowmama · 03/11/2018 22:22

If there was a person there I wouldn’t have turned at all. Posted just to Offload abit. Not to get into a debate

Fairenuff · 03/11/2018 22:25

Don't be daft OP. You did not drive into that bollard on purpose. So if it had been a person you would have driven into them. I suppose you thought we would all think you were a cute lady driver like your dh does. Unfortunately you just come across as a dangerous driver.

millkcowmama · 03/11/2018 22:28

istandwithposie I’m not painting myself in a good light obviously but I’m not as bad as my husband think I am - he’s just a very good driver ( he’s a professional driver) I’m just not the most confident in the world. Think I’m going to get an automatic next car

Haha my husband does not think I’m a cute lady driver.

OP I'm sorry.

I had a very close family member injured in a traffic accident this week. Very badly injured through no fault of their own.

I think I might be projecting so I am sorry for that.

IStandWithPosie · 03/11/2018 22:31

Refresher or advanced driving lessons would give you the confidence you lack.

millkcowmama · 03/11/2018 22:33

fairenuff I’m sorry Flowers

I drove into my own drive way wall in a car that was 4 weeks old, like yourself just mistook the turn, no one was hurt but the car (although I did beat myself up about it) and like you wouldn't have turned if it had been a person. Get the car fixed and brush it off, this stuff happens 🤷‍♀️

DaphneCanDoBetterThanFred · 03/11/2018 22:37

Calm down Fairenuff Confused Where on earth have you got that OP was boasting about this? She's embarrassed and has probably had quite a shock. No need to keep on laying into her.

OP slightly off topic, but I really do recommend automatics Smile

Fairenuff · 03/11/2018 22:38

Thanks OP. I was over reacting.

millkcowmama · 03/11/2018 22:40

Yeah my dh thinks I will get on much better with an automatic

AAhhhhh awkward x post, sorry fairenuff That must have been so horrible for all of you Flowers It's a horrible thing thinking that you can be as careful as you can, but you can never account for what other people around you are doing. Pretty scary.

Fairenuff · 03/11/2018 22:46

Ah that's ok, it was me being a bit sensitive right now. We all make mistakes, that's what car insurance is for. It's horrible when a loved one is seriously injured but no-one does it on purpose - that's why they're called accidents.

Sorry for being harsh on this thread OP, I know you didn't mean to have your bump and no-one was hurt, it's just me being silly. Hope you don't let it knock your confidence.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 03/11/2018 23:16

I caught my car on a bollard so you’re not the only one. Parked in front of it and then forgot it was there, it was one of those stupid little ones that was shorter than the front of my car. Went to pull away and scraped my wing all down it. Twat.

Nesssie · 03/11/2018 23:22

I was in a car park and thought I could go forwards from the second row of spaces to the first, didn’t realise there was a low railing separating the two, drive head on into it Blush

DoctorTwo · 03/11/2018 23:41

So what did you want?

My guess is she posted for a bit of sympathy.

Why are you here boasting about putting lives in danger?

She hit a bollard at walking pace. The only way lives would've been put in danger is if the bollard had been explosive.

KOKO OP, you'll be fine.

millkcowmama · 04/11/2018 04:35

Thanks everyone. And hope your family member gets better soon fairenuff

Never mind the car.. I walked into a bollard the other day! My god it hurt.

problembottom · 04/11/2018 09:07

DP reversed into a bollard in my brand new car in a shopping centre. It had a reverse sensor which was beeping like crazy but he ignored it as he couldn’t see anything in the rear view mirror. Hmm

DobbinsVeil · 04/11/2018 09:17

FIL's car was in for repairs (not his fault, vandalism). All done fine, as he drove off from the body shop he drove into a bollard. At least he was in the right place.

millkcowmama · 04/11/2018 09:34

Some of these stories are definitely making me feel better

We all make mistakes. My car was WRITTEN OFF a few weeks back because I didn't stop in time in a queue of traffic. There wasn't actually much damage to my car as it was s tank but an expensive to fix tank sadly.

All that happened was I was in a long moving queue for a roundabout, someone in the very narrow pavement was getting their toddler out of the buggy and I was distracted (thinking who stops there and let's a small child loose next to a just road? I hope they don't leg it!) then looked back and didn't have enough time to brake.

Just one of those things (and fyi anyone who thinks I'm downplaying it I was mortified and waited 3 hours with the lady whose car I hit for her recovery people) but still a mistake.

I'm still getting to grips with my new car which has a crap turning circle and less speed at the lights, has a few cringe moments!

In spite of all this I'm not considered to be a bad driver by anyone I know.

pretendingtowork1 · 04/11/2018 10:35

It’s a rite of passage crashing into a bollard.

not for competent drivers it isn't.....

sorry it happened OP, just be more careful next time. mean of your DH to take the piss.
