What would be your choice of colour for a counselling room?

I'm decorating my new therapy room which I shall see my counselling clients in. After decades of working in dull plain white characterless shared offices, I'm thinking of making it really cosy. What colours appeal to you?

Sage green. Ultra soothing.

Goldenbug · 01/11/2018 18:43

Warm colours, with a lot of neutrals about.

LemonRedwood · 01/11/2018 18:44

I think sage green and related hues too. Very calming.

TeenTimesTwo · 01/11/2018 18:44

lavender , or a deeper but similar purple

Spankyoumuchly · 01/11/2018 18:45

Neutral, pale, maybe pastel colours. Real plants. Some of your clients may have sensory needs. I would also recommend soft cushions and maybe a soft throw so it feels like a nurturing place.

holliemhurst · 01/11/2018 18:46

Soft blue, I read that the color blue has a calming effect Smile

LongSummerDays · 01/11/2018 18:47

Blues and creams.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 01/11/2018 18:48

Pale blue, or a pale yellow.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 01/11/2018 18:48

I agree with sage green and lots of natural colours. Soothing greens, bamboos, plants

Sirzy · 01/11/2018 18:48

A soft blue was the first I thought.

notacooldad · 01/11/2018 18:49

silver grey with Navy.

Undercoverbanana · 01/11/2018 18:50

Greens/yellows/blues.

Plants. No clutter. Natural woods and things with texture - pebbles, pine cones etc...

Mrstwiddle · 01/11/2018 18:51

Taupe

WiltedDaffs · 01/11/2018 18:52

Another vote for green, plants and natural woods.

Blue is calming but feels cold to me.

nicenewdusters · 01/11/2018 18:52

Creams, pale hues of pink and lavender. I'd only go green if it's very soft and pale, same with blue. Lighting is the big thing, soft lamps.

Rebecca36 · 01/11/2018 18:52

Very pale pink. It's relaxing.

HermioneWeasley · 01/11/2018 18:55

Lavender was the first I thought of

Frustratedboarder · 01/11/2018 18:55

I'm going to go against the grain and say Not green as to me it says hospital and has become synonymous with a clinical environment... And blue is actually quite cold? I painted my bedroom pale blue as a teen and regretted it immediately!
I would go warm peaches or yellows, sunny and uplifting, with plants and wood or stone furniture and accessories; very natural and 'living'.

I made the colour scheme of mine round the lovely rug I bought to go in it. Then I moved house and tried to replicate it in another room. So in the first house it was deep red alcoves and I think deep blue ceiling and pale mushroom walls and then in the next one there were beams on the ceiling and I did the inter-beam spaces in the red one wall in the deep blue and the other walls in a pale mushroom. I'm not sure how all that sounds but it was a lovely elegant peaceful room both times and only one client hated it, the second one, after the move, but she had stuff about me moving anyway. I think you can have strong colours if it's done well - and it was/is very me, and after all your clients choose you, so if it's you it'll be fine.

The red was womb-like and the blue midnight-sky-like and the pale mushroom was the calming influence.

Comfortable chairs are very important.

As someone who has spent a huge amount of time in psych wards and therapy rooms - please not sage green. Just makes you feel like you’re in a hospital, they’re all the same. Same for pale blue. Just feels clinical when the intention is relaxing.

Yellow would be nice. Not too bright but not insipid either. Yes to soft sofas, wood, plants. If you’re putting things on the walls, please don’t choose sunsets or similar ‘inspirational’ pics.

Almostthere15 · 01/11/2018 18:57

Green but be prepared to spend a million pounds in tester pots. I love dulux wellbeing if you'd like to reap the benefits of my tester pot journey.

Real plants would be nice but no pollen.

HerRoyalNotness · 01/11/2018 18:58

agree with sage green and lots of natural colours. Soothing greens, bamboos, plants

^this. With some plush fabrics on cushions, throws and rug. low lamps, some baskets for texture to store your supplies in

vintagechick43 · 01/11/2018 19:01

A nice soft warm yellow or a peachy colour with cream. I also agree that pale blue and green are cold colours.

justaweeone · 01/11/2018 19:01

Teals or these sorts of colours
No tub chairs or function furniture

The benefits office used to be painted pale pink, apparently it's calming.
