Do you think this is

a) because I haven't got a pumpkin and they are being considerate

Or

b) because I gave out pens instead of sweets last year and they remember?

DD told me you only knock at houses with pumpkins. We've bought sweets but DS said not to put a pumpkin out and he'ld rather stay here sitting next to sweets

ElizavetaBathory · 31/10/2018 19:08

I was hoping to avoid it last year so had no festive signs at all and was inundated and I'll-prepared, so had to raid my collection of pens for work because otherwise it would have been vegetables!

This year I have sweets and no visitors so am eating a family pack of m&ms

I’ve had them here even though there is no pumpkin and porch light is off!

warmest

Or you get my dd who goes with ‘happy trick or treat”!

doomclaw · 31/10/2018 19:12

We have had one lot so far. DH bought home extra sweets even though I told him not to so we have loads. Only had one mini twix so far but can't see it being my last.

BarnamintBaileys · 31/10/2018 19:12

I wish the parents round here taught their children to only knock at houses that are decorated. It’s non-stop from 5 till about 9 every year, and for 4-5 days leading up to Halloween as well. Can you tell I’m not a fan? 😂

GreatWesternValkyrie · 31/10/2018 19:12

We’ve had none for the last three years so haven’t bothered getting any treats - then I heard a horde of them squealing their way along our road about an hour ago and I had nothing to offer but black coffe and sugar free mints. I hid!

On a related subject, I was on a global work call today and at the end, a number of (American) colleagues wished everyone a happy Halloween! Cue the Europeans stuttering out thank yous as saying it back was just too unnatural! Grin

RememberUs · 31/10/2018 19:26

Kids here do a combination of trick or treat or Happy Halloween, DD22 is in charge of decorating and door opening this year and is wishing them all a Happy Halloween.

I got in 1 box of 50 Starmix, 10 pack of Skittles, 2 bags of Maom chews and about 20 lollies. All gone, either DD has been having a sugar feast or we have had 70-100 kids in 2 hours from 5-7

DappledThings · 31/10/2018 19:35

Where is everyone who is getting loads? I've had two calls in total in my whole life and despite living in places the length of England I've never seen anyone out on the street in costume

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 31/10/2018 19:43

We only had one knock. Hardly any kids out tonight, normally there’re crowds!
My dc would love a pen though! We do only knock at decorated houses though...

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 31/10/2018 19:45

I think everyone round here has loads of sweets left over: the last few houses were giving 4-5 things per child to get rid!

Bumbumtaloo · 31/10/2018 19:47

We have come to the conclusion our village now has people that actually come here just to trick or treat.

A large majority of the village go all out and really dress their houses up. We have lots of little bags handed out with all sorts in them including glow sticks, balloons, little toys, sweets, cakes, normal size chocolate bars.

My DH was out with our DD’s and saw loads and loads of unfamiliar children and their parents - we are quite a small village and so you tend to know all of the parents and/or children.

It’s a lovely village.

MadisonAvenue · 31/10/2018 19:49

We haven't had any knock on the door (we haven't decorated) but my husband was surrounded by little ghosts and witches when he pulled onto the drive, they came over to the car before he'd even opened the door. He said they couldn't have been much older than infant school age and parents were stood nearby. They didn't get anything.

MadisonAvenue · 31/10/2018 19:50

Meant to say that there have been loads walking around though.

FairyPenguin · 31/10/2018 19:52

We’ve had so many that we’ve run out of treats so have put a sign on the door to discourage any more from knocking.

OhFlipMama · 31/10/2018 19:54

No-one goes to pumpkin-less houses here.

loveliesbleeding1 · 31/10/2018 19:55

Not one knock,I put the outside light on especially Sad

OrangeOrBlackcurrant · 31/10/2018 19:57

I put an apple and satsuma in amongst our treat bucket for callers and they were the first things to go! Shock
Very strict with my DC - no decorations or pumpkins then no knocking. Everyone else round here follows same rules. Lovely almost carnival atmosphere here when walking around. But at 8pm decs are coming down and the door won't be answered.

CakeNinja · 31/10/2018 20:05

We’ve had a lot round here, more than we usually do.
It’s a big town but full of lots of little smaller ‘communities’.
We’ve probably had about 20 knocks.
I’m giving it til 9 to bring the pumpkins in and take the door decs down.
My older dc take their little brother and know to only knock on houses with pumpkins, and also to only go up and down our road. There’s only so many sweets any kid needs!

Starlight345 · 31/10/2018 20:05

My Ds knows not to knock when there is no pumpkin .

Juanbablo · 31/10/2018 20:07

If you don't have a pumpkin or decorations no one will knock.

We had millions of trick or treaters. We ran out of sweets in the end. I was out with the DC's and she said he sat on the stairs the whole time because there was no point going into the living room. They were constantly knocking. It's brilliant here at Halloween, hundreds of kids around and the houses decorated really well.

LemonMousse · 31/10/2018 20:12

I've had one - my neighbours 3 year old.
I don't have a pumpkin though I do have my outside light on.
What time is it acceptable to start eating the leftover sweets?

CommunistLegoBloc · 31/10/2018 20:24

I’m not very well and have an early start tomorrow so not doing Halloween. All lights off, no pumpkin, not answering the door as I’m in PJs and feel grim. Loads of knocks and they’re so persistent! Hammering and repeatedly ringing the bell Angry

TeenTimesTwo · 31/10/2018 20:27

Very disappointing here. Less than 30 visitors, we usually have minimum 60, sometimes 80.
We therefore have lots left over - every cloud and all that. Smile

MeltingWax · 31/10/2018 20:28

We've had between 150-170 I reckon which is about what we usually get. We're in north London. A few large groups have come of 10+ kids. You only need a few of those to make inroads into the sweet supply!
