What temperature do you set your thermostat to?

As the colder weather kicks in, I'm wondering if I should go wild and set the thermostat to 20 (when we're home and awake), or stick to a conservative 18.

This has got me wondering whether people in the north set a lower home temperature, and how much depends on your childhood heating situation (chilly in my case).

What is everyone else going for this winter?

Hampshire, it's currently set to 23°.
Yes, I'm in thermals and the house is well insulated.

Berniethefastestmilkwoman · 29/10/2018 19:04

20 degrees c.

megletthesecond · 29/10/2018 19:04

On overnight too.

ChishandFips33 · 29/10/2018 19:05

14 when not in/overnight, 18 when we need it on
But...
We need the thermostat moving upstairs as the woodburner knocks the radiators off and leaves upstairs icy cold!

Old draughty house - gotta love 'em!

maerd · 29/10/2018 19:18

It’s on about 19 I think but we only have the heating come on for two hours in the morning for the bathroom. The log burner is lit all day and piled up just before bed to keep it ticking over. Old draughty house in East Anglia, but both DH and I brought up in draughty houses.

I quite fancy that wall heater GiantKitten, although for I've always associated them with the elderly. But since I recently bought an electric blanket and taken to eating malt loaf, I don't see why that should stand in my way.

6am - 9am - 23 (warm for showers etc)
Daytime & late afternoon - 20ish
Evening - 22
Overnight - 16

When it gets colder/warmer we obviously adjust things.

Wotrewelookinat · 29/10/2018 19:23

16 here but turn it down if we’re going out. Off at night. We have a fire in the living room for the evenings and a fan heater in the bathroom. We keep room doors closed to keep the heat in.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 29/10/2018 19:26

16 but you turn it down if you go out?! Brrr

LukeSkywalkerBoots · 29/10/2018 19:27
  1. We like a toasty house.
MongerTruffle · 29/10/2018 19:29

25 degrees when we're in the house in the day, 21 degrees in the night and when we're at work

FTFF · 29/10/2018 19:30

Hearing is only on if we're in 20-22 degrees usually. In the hideously cold wonder last year when it was -10 I cranked it up to 25.

I'm always cold and even with it at 22 I'm wrapped up in fluffy socks, joggers, vest, jumper and blanket.

SoyDora · 29/10/2018 19:31

21 degrees overnight?! Do you not have duvets/quilts/blankets?! I’d swelter.

secretsciurusvulgaris · 29/10/2018 19:31

21degrees all day

winterinmadeira · 29/10/2018 19:32

20 degrees during the times we are at home and then Off overnight

MirandaWest · 29/10/2018 19:34

We have the window open at night. And no Heating on. Luckily both DH and I can’t stand it being too hot at night.

A580Hojas · 29/10/2018 19:34

20 degrees 7am to 9am, 4pm to 10pm.

RedneckStumpy · 29/10/2018 19:35

62F during the day, 55 at night

starrynitelight · 29/10/2018 19:36

24° here Grin
I also quite like to fuel the log burner with £20 notes 💸

maddiemookins16mum · 29/10/2018 19:37

19/20 (21 if really cold). Never have it on overnight and rarely in the mornings. We’re out all day during the week and it’s timed to come on from 16.30 until 19.30.

notapizzaeater · 29/10/2018 19:38

20 if In the house alone If dh here then he is nesh so 22 - switched off overnight

youare · 29/10/2018 19:39

21/22 during the day.

Off overnight unless it's fucking cold.

Icepinkeskimo · 29/10/2018 19:40

I have just turned it up to 25, in my Defense I have been working in the elements today 19 storeys up and it was brutal. My routine when I get home is steaming hot cup of tea, bath, and a hot water bottle and a hours nap. Extreme cold wears me out, I'm shattered physically and mentally some days, the only thing that keeps me going is the thought of getting in my bed for a nap with the cat curled up next to me!

FissionChips · 29/10/2018 19:40

28/30 during the day, off completely overnight.

riotlady · 29/10/2018 19:41

19 day and night here, used to turn it off at night but have left it on since we had the baby. Our flat is old and badly insulated and prone to damp.
