I'm being induced at 39 weeks and I suddenly got the heebie jeebies last night that the pressaries wouldn't work and I'd end up on the syntocin drip with an epidural, flat on my back. Total opposite of what I had planned (nice, swift water birth thank you! 😂).

I've got two kids, one was induced at 2 weeks over. It took one pessary and off I went.
Second child was spontaneous labour which was a nice, swift water birth.

So I tend to be late.

If this baby was planning on being late as well then we could be forcing him out 3 weeks early. Which doesn't bode well.

They said they would see what my bishops score was and if it wasn't very high then we can put it off for a few more days.

Did anyone have their bishops score done before the induction? If so, what was it and how did the induction go?

Bump.

Pun fully intended.

I was induced at 38 weeks with no 4. No 1 was a horrid, drip induction. No 2 and 3 were very, very quick natural births so I was very unsure what to expect with no 4. I had the pessary at 11am, as soon as my anti biotic drip finished (strep b), I was transferred to the Labour ward (about 12.30). Baby was born at 3pm and was 11lb. So I reacted very quickly to the pessary. Fingers crossed it is the same for you.

Ps I was induced due to his size, no other signs. I was exactly on time with no 2 and 3.

That's very encouraging.
Perhaps it helps that it isn't the first baby?
Did you go over due with baby 2 and 3?

Oh sorry I just saw your second post. Ignore me.

I went over with all three but only induced with no. 3. Had pessary at 6am and DH went off to drop DCs at school. He barely made it back in time as by 9am they were rushing me down the corridor at speed and no. 3 popped 10 mins later.

TheDayMyButtWentPsycho · 29/10/2018 20:05

Awesome. This is making me feel so much better, thank you.

Any other input is gratefully appreciated if anyone else was induced at 39 weeks!

I was induced at exactly 39 weeks but it's not a positive story, so I don't want to worry you even more!

My second was induced at 39 weeks because of gestational-diabetes. I had two pessarys that started things very slowly until they were able to break my waters and then I was put onto the hormone drip. I honestly didn't find it too bad and after I was put on that it was about four hours until I was 10cm and pushed for 15 minutes. Only needed gas and air, although I think it helped that it was quite quick.

Bunnyhop1502 · 29/10/2018 20:13

Induced at 37 weeks with DS and ended up with the drip, flat on back with an epidural. Induced again at 37 weeks with DD, worked instantly, born six hours later. I think it’s the first induction that’s the b*stard. As you’ve had two births already I reckon you’ll be alright and if not you’ve got to look at it as it will be over quickly and you’ll have your baby safe in your arms soon.

Bunnyhop1502 · 29/10/2018 20:13

Ps induced because I get pre-eclampsia at 36 weeks guaranteed!

UnaOfStormhold · 29/10/2018 20:14

I think my Bishop score was 2. Never got into labour despite several hours on the drip, the baby then got distressed so had an EMCS. It wasn't what I was hoping for but I look back on it very positively and recovered better than many friends who had natural births.

celeryeater · 29/10/2018 20:15

Forgot to say I gave birth on all fours

strumpetblowingatrumpet · 29/10/2018 20:19

Umm sorry I had an induction at 40wks due to the baby measuring large- I had either 2 or 3 pessaries, none of them worked so I ended up with a c-section 2 days later. I don't think they give you a drip if the pessaries don't work. Not in my experience anyway. Good luck!!

Starlight345 · 29/10/2018 20:23

I was induced at 39 weeks.

I had pessary inserted at 6. Waters broke at 10 , at 12.20 Ds was born just using gas and air.

LBOCS2 · 29/10/2018 20:25

Induced at 38+3, as I'd developed pre-eclampsia.

Had the pessary at lunchtime. Waters went and contractions started (in that order) between 10pm and 1am. DD1 was born without any drama at 10.30 the following morning. No drip, I did have an epidural but there were no complications - I was just struggling with staying still for them to monitor while I was contracting.

Zigazagazoo · 29/10/2018 20:27

Sorry op what you described in your first post was basically my labour.
4 days of the pessaries failed, booked for c section, cried because I didn’t want one, doctor had a go at breaking waters (wasn’t even 1cm) which worked, then hooked up to drip. 5 days from start to finish.
That was my first baby though.

Scotinoz · 29/10/2018 20:31

I was induced bang on 39wks with my second. OB broke my waters at 8am, midwives were confident labour would start so I walked a lot, syntocinon drip was started at 11.30am, baby arrived at 15.20.

First was born at 40+5, but with a similar labour

Scotinoz · 29/10/2018 20:33

Oh, and I haven't a clue what a Bishops Score even is. I wasn't examined during pregnancy, but my OB was confident that he'd break my waters on the day and he was right.

TheDayMyButtWentPsycho · 29/10/2018 20:33

Ok it seems from the posts here that the inductions were long or failed when it was first babies but successful for subsequent baby's.
So perhaps it won't be too horrific after all (fingers and toes crossed).

TheDayMyButtWentPsycho · 29/10/2018 20:35

If you have a syntocin drip you can't go in the water can you?
You're stuck flat on your back constantly attached to monitors?

Thts my idea of hell.

LBOCS2 · 29/10/2018 20:38

Mine was my first and she was here within 12hrs of my waters going - and 24 of having the pessary. I'd had a sweep the day before too and been told that my cervix was "extremely unfavourable".

Moonflower12 · 29/10/2018 21:07

I was induced at 38 weeks with no.3. He was a whopper due to gestational diabetes. I had the pessary and it didn't work. Then I had a very 'sweepy' sweep. Not comfortable but it got me going. A 9lb 12ox boy within an hour and a half. My Bidhops score had been about 2. My community midwife couldn't believe it when she saw me with him in the morning.

SlipperyLizard · 29/10/2018 21:17

I was induced at 38 weeks with DC1, pessary at 3pm, then they broke my waters at 9pm, DC born at 3am.
