Has anyone bought anything from therange.co.uk? How was your experience? I'd never heard of it until recently but apparently there are bricks and mortar stores too. Is it w decent place to shop or just tat?

I bought a really tacky shiny silver horse’s head from The Range. I painted it with an antique silver paint and it looks amazing now Smile

TroysMammy · 28/10/2018 07:21

I love The Range as they have a brilliant card making department which is better and cheaper than Hobbycraft.

Last weekend I visited Trago Mills in Merthyr which stocked the same items as The Range which was much cheaper, eg large clip lock plastic containers £1.80 less. Although I had some craft bargains the department was not that extensive.

TroysMammy · 28/10/2018 07:24

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 I thought that was just my local store that didn't put prices on everything. They used to have a self price checker by the craft department but since the store was refurbished that has gone.

Chocolateismyvice · 28/10/2018 07:33

We ordered table and chairs from there last year. Table arrived swiftly, with no issues, great sturdy table that we have lots of compliments on. Chairs were another matter -- one set arrived the wrong style, then wrong colours, then there was another issue with delivery and were told at least a 6w wait. I got fed up, cancelled and ordered from elsewhere.

In-store, it's okay. Nothing spectacular but okay to peruse occasionally and pick up some homewares at a decent price. They have some lovely Christmas decorations at the moment.

LongSummerDays · 28/10/2018 07:42

I always came out of The Range with something, even if I hadn't gone in for that. Their broken biscuits were very rarely broken, too. Used to live 2 minutes away from The Range and it was handy for a mooch on a bored rainy Sunday!

AlpacaPicnic · 28/10/2018 07:44

It used to be called CDS and the guy who owns it, Chris Dawson made a fortune by buying up all the old MFI stock, the whole ethos seems to be pile it high, sell it cheap.
Its wonderfully random, it's one of those hit or miss places.
Although a friend used to work in the call centre for their customer care line and he said he would never risk buying anything from their website. Instore is better.

I love the fact that Trago is now infiltrating other parts of the country as well. Now there is a random shop. Do you need a rug, a four man tent, some children's clothing and to feel as if you are under suspicion of being a shoplifter? Geddondown to Trago Mills.

Cahu58 · 28/10/2018 08:03

Just replaced my old John Lewis red berry Xmas wreath with a similar one from The Range. Lovely and really good value.

GraveyardScapers · 28/10/2018 08:04

I think dementedpixie might have been a neighbour - I wonder how many Homebase shops became The Range... Grin

The Range is my go-to shop for frames, crafty stuff and sodastream gas bottles. I’m seriously considering buying their neon stag head from the Christmas shop to display in my house permanently. Blush

TroysMammy, is Trago worth the visit? Saw an advert on a magazine this week and was considering paying a visit, Merthyr is a bit of a trek though if it’s rubbish...

TroysMammy · 28/10/2018 08:25

I loved it and it's massive. We didn't look at a lot of stuff because we didn't need it. It was the craft, kitchen wares and garden departments were our main thing and we were there nearly 2 hours for that. There are food places at the entrance and seating outside too. A mobile meat van is there Wednesday to Sunday and a fruit and veg stall.

It's somewhere I'd go every 6 months or so.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/10/2018 08:38

Ooh I love our store.
I can park right outside which is handy for bulky things. But they have no trolleys Hmm they use to keep them outside , then inside, then..gone! So I use a supermarket one.

Birthday cards are nicer than Card Factory and cheaper than Clintons .
I bought loads of stationary and craft bits for the DC.

Homeware
Astonish cleaning products
Random things like cable ties, tarpaulin and LED candles
Teapot
Those waterproof pack-away jackets and trousers when the DC were younger

Hay and pellets for my guinea-pigs. And I bought one of my indoor cages there (decent sized £40, much better than P@H)

Bowchicawowow · 28/10/2018 09:08

I have just remembered that I overheard a conversation between two men who had worked at Range before they retired. They were now part of a group called ‘Out of Range.’ They were nice men.

PattiStanger · 28/10/2018 09:16

No idea about the online shop but I'd be amazed if anyone could go in to local one and not find something they needed.

It has just about everything and the prices are very good too.

I'd thought it was a huge national chain like Wilkos or B & Q, but maybe not if you haven't heard of it.

NameChanger22 · 28/10/2018 09:19

I live near a store. I like it for art and craft materials as they are a bit cheaper than elsewhere. I also buy stocking fillers and occasionally home stuff. It looks like a big mess when you walk in, but they sell some good stuff.

notacooldad · 28/10/2018 09:23

Ours is good for gardening stuff, home decorations, art and fancy stationary, outdoor clothing, Christmas stuff and towels.

Lucisky · 28/10/2018 09:25

A lot of the stuff in there is lovely, and similar would cost a lot more elsewhere. An example is a mirror touted by a Telegraph supplement for £149, an almost identical one was available in the Range for around £20. Certainly for room accessories you can get the look you want without breaking the bank.
Their craft stuff is brilliant, and are much cheaper than Hobbycraft. I have also bought stuff online and had no problem at all.
The shop is a bit random and cluttered (well, our local one is), which can make negotiating the aisles a bit fraught.

dementedpixie · 28/10/2018 09:26

We bought some nice cushions and throws there too. And paint for my downstairs cloakroom

Biancadelriosback · 28/10/2018 09:36

Love it. Good price for large mirrors and clocks etc. I always go in looking for a specific light that I want. I've seen it in high end stores and can't afford it so I'm waiting for the cheap version!

lynmilne65 · 28/10/2018 09:45

Our local Homebase is now Range (Perth)

lynmilne65 · 28/10/2018 09:48

Horses head ! 😱

Bowchicawowow · 28/10/2018 09:51

I promise you that the horse’s head is lovely!

Tidythatmess · 28/10/2018 09:55

So is the Range like Dunelm?

PattiStanger · 28/10/2018 10:08

I don't know if they are all the same but the one near me isn't like Dunelm, it sells food, has a pet section, toys and an outdoor garden centre bit, it does well done of the same things but I wouldn't class them as the same type of shop

TitsalinaBumSquash · 28/10/2018 10:20

Ours is like B&M crossed with Home Bargains.

craftqueen · 01/11/2018 15:22

Lol graveyardscrapers ours has turned from a Homebase into the range too. Wonder if it's the same one.

Fucksgiven · 01/11/2018 15:26

I'm really tempted to get a musical carousel from there for Christmas. Might be crap quality but looks really charming
