The Range

Has anyone bought anything from therange.co.uk? How was your experience? I'd never heard of it until recently but apparently there are bricks and mortar stores too. Is it w decent place to shop or just tat?

We have one round the corner. They sell loads of stuff from stationery, art supplies, homeware, garden stuff and animal things too. Sometimes I just like to go and have a browse.

Yambabe · 27/10/2018 23:01

Oh I love the actual shop. It is a bit tat-fantastic but they sell decent stuff too.

EyeDrops · 27/10/2018 23:02

I love it. Great for reasonably priced homeware and craft stuff.

dementedpixie · 27/10/2018 23:03

Our local Homebase turned into The Range. It's fairly similar - Has craft stuff, baking stuff, homewares, pet stuff, garden centre, diy stuff, etc

PabloTescobar · 27/10/2018 23:04

God I love The Range! It's like the Aises of Wonder on steroids.

Onceuponatime21 · 27/10/2018 23:05

Brilliant for arts, crafts, Christmas decorations, biscuits. Furniture is cheap though.

letsdolunch321 · 27/10/2018 23:05

The Range gets the 👍🏻 from me. Good quality stuff.

gamerwidow · 27/10/2018 23:05

It’s a bit hit and miss but it’s worth a visit because there are bargains to be had. Obviously it’s not high end but it’s not all rubbish either.

CakeNinja · 27/10/2018 23:06

Oh lord, I can’t tolerate that shop! The one near me is packed to the rafters, no room to swing a cat and crammed with tat. Like Wilkinson’s only more shit Grin
Loathed all the more by the beginning of every child’s homework project being, “muuuuum, can we go to the Range?” - brings me out in a cold sweat!
Although I also hate Wilkinson’s!

HenryInTheTunnel · 27/10/2018 23:09

I like it. There's a lot of tacky crap in there, but in amongst it there are some quite nice things that wouldn't look out of place in a trendier shop, for a fraction of the price. Quite good for practical items too. My kitchen bin is from there.

Meet0nTheIedge · 27/10/2018 23:10

I didn't know they did online, but have been shopping there for 10 or so years. It is like a giant version of Wilkinsons, cheap and cheerful. The aisles get very crowded with free standing stuff, it's best to go at quieter times if you can.

BaldricksCoffee · 27/10/2018 23:10

There's a massive one near me, and their Christmas decorations are brilliant and reasonably priced. I like their household stuff too - we have their tea/coffee/sugar jars and I've bought no end of random things like gardening gloves, cat food and doormats as well. Come to think of it, our garden bench came from there a couple of years ago.

RoseMartha · 27/10/2018 23:10

I went in there today actually. I dont shop in there very often. I bought a couple of card making embellishments. Worth a visit now and then.

SoleBizzz · 27/10/2018 23:10

Tbe Range was brilliant but gone a bit downhill in the last five years

driggle · 27/10/2018 23:13

I really like it for cheap homeware stuff. There's a big store near me that becomes tat central at Christmas. I've ordered from their website once. It was a small photo frame that arrived in an absolutely massive box and the frame itself was different from the image on the website. So I stick to in-store purchases only now.

treaclesoda · 27/10/2018 23:18

If you like craft type stuff there is nowhere better. Not terribly keen on all their generic artwork and inspirational quotes, but then that's just not my cup of tea even if it was £900 instead of £9. They have some lovely kitchen stuff too.

Weirdly though, my 12 year old craft fanatic wasn't able to use her birthday gift card to buy PVA glue or Pritt stick because it was for over 18s only. Confused

BrickByBrick · 27/10/2018 23:38

I quite like it, has some nice bits and pieces. A not too bad pet department, some nice kitchen stuff and craft. I did get an ok flat packed bathroom cabinet, the size I needed was very specific and I couldn't find one anywhere else.

Furries · 28/10/2018 01:54

Can always find bits and pieces of homeware much cheaper than most places. My main reason for going there is 4-pack of kitchen roll for £1.09 and 9-pack of loo roll for £2.50!!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 28/10/2018 01:20

I've just been on their website (killing time during a night shift) and they appear to be selling what looks like a merkin but is described as a 'furry bauble' I mean, wtf? https://www.therange.co.uk/occasion/christmas/christmas-trees/tree-decorations/baubles-and-hanging-decorations/baubles/furry-woodland-bauble#103874

AnnieAnoniMouse · 28/10/2018 01:26

We like a bit of a wander around in our local one.

DC love the boxes of broken biscuits...they’re actually seldom broken though!

Great for craft stuff.

Though as treaclesoda pointed out, you have to be mindful of who is buying stuff. A few weeks ago the 13 yo went in to buy PVA for (more bloody) slime, she had to swap places with me watchingbthe yo7nger ones in the car so I could gonin to buy it - blanket rule on no glue sold to minors. It’s PV fucking A, sniff it? You could probably drink it and do yourself no harm 😂. Then the other day I bought a box of Baileys Truffles and got asked if they were for me or the kids. I was very clear they were for ME and ‘wasted’ on the kids. I mean, bloody hell, it was truffles, the 2yo could probably eat the entire box and be at more risk of being sick than drunk 🤣. 🙄🙄🙄

There’s a monumental amount of crap in there and it has a very ‘cheap’ feel to it, but there are some good bits too.

spudlet7 · 28/10/2018 02:14

Well I'm sold!

NoUnicornsToSeeHere · 28/10/2018 02:22

Mine is great for random shit but it’s the only store I’ve been in where at every visit I’m convinced that the staff get customer rudeness training.

Don’t have any eye contact...do not speak to customers...act surprised if s customer has waited for four people and you’re closing the till... chuck customer purchases as far as is possible... do not ask if customer wants bags...maintain conversation with other checkout operators throughout transaction... ensure that there are boxes of things in The Most Awkward Places in store...

With that in mind buying online sounds a great option!

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 28/10/2018 07:04

One of those shops I go in for one thing. And end up with a ton of stuff. Wish they priced things though. Get fed up with going to the counter to ask a price

diodon · 28/10/2018 07:08

Their online ordering is quick and efficient, £3.95 for next day delivery.
And turns up well packed and on time, unlike multiple Wilkos orders which went missing.

fleshmarketclose · 28/10/2018 07:13

I like a look round the Range when I'm in town. There is some tat but there are also bargains to be had and some nice quality bits at decent prices. Dog toys, treats and food is always competitively priced and the craft range is great and half the price of Paperchase for the exact same items.
