Does this wedding sound okay or really shit?

Married in the registry office at 4pm with just our parents present.

Whole pub (small, country-type) booked out from 4pm.

Guests told the pub will be booked from 4pm, arrive when you can.

Nibbles out from 4pm for when guests arrive.

Pub games (quiz, Mr and Mrs etc.) at 6pm.

Buffet from 7pm.

Disco starts at 7:30pm.

Dress code - casual, night at the pub!

One of the best weddings I ever went to was planned like yours. We still talk about it years later. You just can't beat a good old knees up in a boozer. I would take that over a marquee with chair covers and petit fours any day.

How does it sound to the pair of you? It's your day, and frankly, it shows that you value real relationships and being yourself. Go for it if that's what you want.

I would love to attend a wedding like this!

Fab! Such a great alternative to the usual frou-frou catastrophe!

Only tweak for me would be that the gap between 1st guests arriving (4pm) and any real food or entertainment is hours. I’d want it to be minutes. Especially if there are any oldies or kiddies.

I should've said it'll be a child-free wedding.

Yeah, we'll re-think the timings Grin

I think it sounds great. Would love this

Can I come please 😊🍹

I hate stuffy weddings, but a pub, picnics, village hall and everyone pitching in type things and I’m right there!

A couple of thoughts...

How upset is your Dad not to be making a Speach? If he’s gutted, I’d let him. It would mean more to me to let my Dad do something he’s thought about since the day I was born, than to put my foot down over 5 minutes of the day.

I like your original relaxed approach to people arriving, it fits in with your ‘night at the pub’ and will make your guests life far easier. I would simply say ‘Tab open & nibbles available from 4, so the sooner you can get there the better, we’ll be there about half past. We would really appreciate as many people as possible being there for 6 as we really want a full house for the Pub Quiz (sounds less twee than games, but once they’re there....) to kick off the evening, followed by DJ/live band.

LOVE your dress code!

🍹 hope you enjoy every minute!

(I’ll pm you my email address for the invitation.)

Sounds great to me! Have a fab day Smile

I think my dad's relieved he doesn't actually have to do anything or be "on show".

I've been clear with him since I turned into a grumpy feminist at about 15 that he wouldn't ever be giving me away or doing a speech if I ever got married. So I don't think he's ever thought it was an option.

Thanks for the idea about the wording on the invites Grin

Your invite will be with you shortly
