Married in the registry office at 4pm with just our parents present.

Whole pub (small, country-type) booked out from 4pm.

Guests told the pub will be booked from 4pm, arrive when you can.

Nibbles out from 4pm for when guests arrive.

Pub games (quiz, Mr and Mrs etc.) at 6pm.

Buffet from 7pm.

Disco starts at 7:30pm.

Dress code - casual, night at the pub!

Sounds great but I would bring the time of the games forward so its not too much of a rush. We had a very chilled wedding, no sit down meal, bbq etc and everyone loved it. Make sure guests take lots of photos. Have a great day ! x

this sounds fantastic, fun relaxed and a proper celebration, my only concern and in echoing others is the timing seem off to me , I don't know how big a crowd your talking of but usually I find the more people the longer anything takes, I was told once for a party buffet for 50 people allow 1hour 15 mins to get food sit down eat and go up for seconds, then desserts more time, only kids want to get right up from eating to disco, if I was invited and knew you were only at reg office yourself at 4, id be thinking at best wandering in 5-6ish assuming I wasn't working, so you might need to stress the arrival time, the games nibbles etc. can all be done at the same time its a good ice breaker, so the only change i'd make is allowing more time between buffet and disco, if possible if not don't worry

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 26/10/2018 11:05

I would love this.

I think a couple of things though:

You probably won't be there till 4.30 so have a couple of people there from 345 acting as your version of ushers - just a couple of reliable friends who can say, hi, here's where to get a drink, put your coat there, Woof and Mr Woof will be here in half an hour. I just think it's nice to have someone there to welcome people.

I agree the games might be rushed and people might be coming in and out, but you could put them in the middle of the night - so music takes a break, buffet, quizzes. Just a thought.

Sounds like a bloody great wedding.

I think it sounds like a great wedding. DP and I are starting to plan our own wedding and I may even suggest this for ours. Congratulations!

YearOfYouRemember · 26/10/2018 11:06

Wouldn't fancy the games but you know your audience.

tillytrotter1 · 26/10/2018 11:07

Sounds brilliant and I'll bet you're not remotely 'bridezilla'! Have a lovely day and a wonderful future. you sound to have your head screwed on the right way, which is a good start.

CakeNinja · 26/10/2018 11:07

Sounds absolutely lovely, and to be honest, it’s your day so make it as you want it.
I too would much prefer a quiz to a cringey speech - and you’re right, god knows how many of those most of us have had to sit through!

Bluesmartiesarebest · 26/10/2018 11:07

I think it sounds like a lovely, informal wedding. As long as the games don’t go on for too long and there is plenty of food it will be a great day!

longwayoff · 26/10/2018 11:08

Sounds good, have a great day, congratulationsSmile

WoofofWallStreet · 26/10/2018 11:10

I'm going to go back to the timings, thank you!

Good idea to rope in a couple of mates to do the greeting. We have a couple of friends who've agreed to help us set up in the afternoon so we can leave them in charge of being the friendly faces Grin

Sounds lovely. I can't imagine anyone not thinking it was ok

rubyroot · 26/10/2018 11:11

Much better than speeches. I sat through some ridiculously long speeches at a wedding- went on and on. Was so bored, I drunk lots of wine and started heckling Blush

Speeches should be short and sweet- these went on for 1 hour - at least.

WoofofWallStreet · 26/10/2018 11:14

@rubyroot Oooh, tell us more about the heckling. I've always been so tempted!

I just don't see the point of them TBH. It's not like the father of the bride is going to stand up and say "Well, thank you for coming. I'm really gutted that my daughter is marrying this moron. I much preferred her ex boyfriend who was better looking and earned more money..."

Nope, it's the same old formulaic shit. Yawn.

Foods the most important bit for a wedding guest IMO

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/10/2018 11:16

I don't like the speeches either

(Although we had some!)

pinkDEpanter · 26/10/2018 11:24

So our wedding...

Registry office married at 12:30
Took some photos
Went to in laws with all guests for a bbq
WMC for party from about 7:30 for small buffet and disco

Looking back it was brilliant and I'm sure yours will be too! It was very relaxed and casual and as much as it was "our big day" we enjoyed it our way :)

Rebecca36 · 26/10/2018 11:26

Sounds great! Make sure there's plenty of food, no problem being plenty of drink as it's in a pub :-).

I like weddings like yours. It's how they used to be before people starting booking castles and beaches abroad! Everyone will have a good time.

HollowTalk · 26/10/2018 11:29

Is it just a pay bar or will you have any free drinks?

huttub · 26/10/2018 11:29

Sounds great

WoofofWallStreet · 26/10/2018 11:30

There'll be £2,000 behind the bar so that should give a fair few free drinks.

sounds amazing, I would love this, I hate all day long weddings, boring!

Orlandointhewilderness · 26/10/2018 11:32

sounds lovely OP!

mydogisthebest · 26/10/2018 11:40

I think it sounds really great. Exactly how I would have liked our wedding to be and it would have been if not for interfering MIL.

Have the wedding you want. I still regret not sticking to my guns and that was almost 40 years ago

PrimalLass · 26/10/2018 11:41

I wouldn't like the games but the rest sounds good.

dulcefarniente · 26/10/2018 11:41

Went to a birthday party (significant birthday) where there was a quiz all about the person whose birthday it was rather than your standard pub quiz. Lots of info came out that people were unaware of (in a good way). Funnily enough their DP was a bit of the way down the scoreboard 😁
