What car do you have?

I am seriously thinking of getting a therapy dog for DS2. He attends dog therapy and he gets real benefits from it. My concern is I drive a corsa and I don't think I will fit 3 DC's (although the oldest drives and has a car so the times he comes out with us are rare) myself and a dog in it safely and comfortably.

I’ve got a Freelander but my dog is a young lab so he can bounce in and out easily. It’s not a massive boot depth-wise but it is a bit higher. My last car was a Passat estate which had a really long boot. My friend has a Vovlo XC90 which has a humongous boot, even when the seven seats are all in use.

Ford grand c max...sliding back doors make it so much better than other cars we have had!

GlassOuijan · 25/10/2018 22:24

I have a Vauxhall Zafira. Big boot. Great for children and dog.
Crap car, though.

Subaru Legacy Estate and Mondeo Estate although 1 child is not yet born and the other is in an ERF seat so quite bulky...

Can do day trips in Legacy no issues but would want the Mondeo for a weekend. Dog in boot, luggage in other half of boot.

Older kids with less paraphernalia- could do a weekend in the Legacy...

randomsabreuse · 25/10/2018 22:27

Friend has a lab in the boot of a Yaris. No space for luggage but is possible.

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 25/10/2018 22:27

Volvo s60. My dog is quite small though so can sit comfortably between the dc.

anothermansmother · 25/10/2018 22:29

I drive a 3 door Clio and manage to fit our boxer in the boot fine. You can get specialised cages for the boot of even the smallest car. Good luck finding the right dog.

PumpkinSpiceAmericanoNoSugar · 25/10/2018 22:30

I have a VW Tiguan. How big a boot you need depends on the size of your dog and how you contain the dog in the car. I put my dog into a crate and he's quite a long dog so it needs to be a reasonably large crate. If you get a small dog then he might fit in a small crate in the boot of a Corsa, or he might be able to wear a seatbelt adaptor harness and use the centre seatbelt on the back seat.

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 25/10/2018 22:33

A skoda octavia. The dog is a golden retriever and usually has the whole of the boot to himself (unless we go camping in which case he has to share with the tent Smile)

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 25/10/2018 22:34

Honda CRV. Two adults, two children (teens now) and a Labrador BUT we also had a Honda CRV when we had THREE Labradors. Not joking, it’s a Tardis of a car, honestly.

TreTops · 25/10/2018 22:43

If you end up with a small dog then this car seat works well www.kurgostore.co.uk/dog-gear/dogsafety-1/skybox-booster-seat obviously takes up a seat in car but can secure dog properly and you don't use any boot space

mimiasovitch · 25/10/2018 22:48

I have a Kia Sportage, and my big dog fits comfortably in the boot, but we wouldn't be able to go on holiday with her. My husband has a 7 seater VW van for the big trips.

BathTangle · 25/10/2018 22:53

Toyota Hilux twincab Grin - that has plenty of room, but actually we fit perfectly comfortably in a normal estate car.

Strugglingtodomybest · 25/10/2018 22:58

We've had various estates. Can get both dogs plus shopping/beach gear/scooters in or a couple of small bikes.

steppemum · 25/10/2018 23:06

vauxhall zafira.

But my mum drives a renault cleo, and the dog would fit in the boot (not with anything else though)
He is springer spaniel, so isn't very tall sitting up.

Xiaoxiong · 25/10/2018 23:06

Vauxhall Astra estate. Our lab/GSD cross can fit in the boot comfortably with other stuff too if necessary. The boot is vast even though the car doesn't look too big from the outside!

Veryberrycherry · 25/10/2018 23:08

Vauxhall astra Estate

Bunnybigears · 25/10/2018 23:10

Peugeot 207 estate car. Dog goes in the middle between the kids so the boot is free and we have a roof top box for camping trips.

SwizzelsFizzers · 25/10/2018 23:32

It depends on how you want the dog to travel. If you want a crate you need a big boot. If they are to be strapped in, you need a spare seatbelt. If they are in the footwell, you need floor space etc etc

Mine sits on a knee, not strapped in. If he is alone with the driver he has a 'car seat" basically a bed that he fastens in too.

Last dog was bigger and went in the boot until she was too old and then went in the front footwell with the passenger seat pushed right back.

onestitchaway · 26/10/2018 06:50

We have a Discovery Sport. Dog either sits in the footwell of passenger seat or my daughter. 2 car seats so no room in the middle but would be if children not in seats.

Mossop17 · 26/10/2018 07:00

Skoda fabia estate here for our lab. Big enough for him to turn around in on long journeys plus a big of room for stuff. It's low enough for him to jump into.

OneOfTheGrundys · 26/10/2018 07:01

Skoda Octavia. Boot like a football pitch. Plus dog guard.

OneOfTheGrundys · 26/10/2018 07:02

Estate.

Hemlock2013 · 26/10/2018 07:10

Ford c max but dog is a jrt so would fit anywhere.

I put him in the boot but can hear him sliding about if I take a corner too quick, think I might just stick a cardboard box in there for him to add stability....

totallyliterally · 26/10/2018 07:17

Ford kuga with a proper dog crate in boot. A crash tested car dog crate I mean. Highly recommend them.
