In my house it's about a week...what do you do?

A week.

Oblomov18 · 26/10/2018 11:50

About a week. Also Depends when the recycling is: we have rubbish one Tuesday, recycling the next Tuesday.

Cyclingforcake · 26/10/2018 12:15

Two weeks for birthday cards. A month for the new baby cards. An Christmas card from when they arrive till after new year. Easter and Valentines cards are an abomination so are binned ASAP.

A week.

A week

Mummaluelae · 26/10/2018 13:13

1 week then cut them so DC can do sticking with them or make cards to family with various images

longtompot · 26/10/2018 21:06

I keep them up for two weeks. Everyones birthdays are quite far apart, apart from my yd and mine so we have cards up for about 3 weeks. Its sad that people only keep them up for a day, or even bin them straight away.

1-2 weeks. I don’t mind moving them to dust, but if it’s breezy and they keep blowing down it drives me nuts!

I keep them though. I have the ‘last card’ special people have sent me before they died. You never know when it’ll be the last one.

cablewable · 26/10/2018 21:34

I love cards. I appreciate each and every one- in my opinion someone has stood and picked one, carefully thinking which one you would like. They have then thought about something nice to write.
I keep most of mine and our childrens. Lots of mine that I have in storage have handwriting from people that are no longer here- i feel handwriting is the most personal thing you can have of someone that has passed- I am a sentimental sap though! They stay up for a week to admire. I'm sad to hear people just read and throw.

sirfredfredgeorge · 26/10/2018 22:35

Can someone say what the joy of a card is? And I don't mean a carefully hand made one from your child with a fun message, but the generic kitten from uncle Jack or crap joke from aunt Joan signed simply "happy birthday"?

What do you put them up for?

I don't read and throw, but only because everyone knows not to send - even very card loving MIL who took a long time to believe doesn't do it now.

dementedma · 26/10/2018 22:43

A week, because of someone took the time and trouble to send me a card, it would be churlish not to.
As I don't dust every week, dusting around them is not a problem.

cablewable · 26/10/2018 22:59

@sirfredfredgeorge for me it's the thought. You're in someone's thoughts and they took the time to send you something. It's special.

One week then they start annoying me as cluttering up coffee table

0BigGirlPants0 · 23/08/2021 21:43

Keep them up a year. Only four of us in the house so have a window sill each until the next ones replace them. Lovely keepsakes
