Words you don't like

My husband thinks I'm funny but I HATE the word (autumnal) and if he uses it makes me mad or if I hear it make any eyes roll and I don't know why as it's just a word 😂..

Lots there that I dislike.

My key one is “wellness”. I first became aware of it when I lived in Germany. They have a lot of “wellness clinics”. It makes me shudder. It seems it is a word and has become more popular over here in recent years too.

Hyggehygge · 27/10/2018 08:57

CarpeDiem. I agree with “so”, but have to actively stop myself from doing it Blush. Exactly when did it become part of our language? It’s quite a recent thing, isn’t it?

Cohort

Shortening of school subjects, eg, bio, geog, chem..

Referring to school kids as professionals taking exams, eg, ‘good luck to all the chemists/mathematicians.. etc’ in their GCSE exams..

i cannot stand 'little man'

a boy child is not a little fecking man, they are a boy .....a little man is a dwarf ffs.

no idea why i loathe this so much but i do.

also bum..its bottom
also toilet/bathroom/little girls room..its loo or lavatory

unicornchaser · 27/10/2018 09:19

Yummy. Makes me recoil every time I hear someone say it!
Yum is almost as bad but bearable.....

toomuchtooold · 27/10/2018 09:22

@midsomermurderess regarding "inappropriate": yes! I so agree with you that I had to check the username and date on your post in case this was a zombie thread and it was just me quoting myself Grin

I reckon "problematic", in the sense of something that is a bit racist or sexist or otherwise un-woke, is the new "inappropriate" - it's got that same thing of pretending that the person who said it didn't make the judgement.

MsLexic · 27/10/2018 10:04

Bob which my ex now calls himself bobobobob ewwww

MsLexic · 27/10/2018 10:06

I agree about 'little man' for a male child. Putrid term. I am taking the 'little man' out in his pram. Barf

81Byerley · 27/10/2018 11:15

Tasty.

insancerre · 27/10/2018 11:22

So
It's so overused and it makes me feel all on edge

insancerre · 27/10/2018 11:23

Apart from when i use it in its proper context, obviously :)

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/10/2018 11:30

Amazing - so overused. Every other thing/person is 'amazing' now. Find another adjective, FFS.

Pamper/pampering - probably because they so often refer to massages/spa days, which I hate the very thought of, since I loathe being (however gently) mauled about by strangers.

unicornchaser · 27/10/2018 11:48

Oh the little man one reminded me of a couple others.

Wee man for a little boy and wain for child. Ma and Da for mum & dad.

I'm from Glasgow and these are heard every 20 seconds when you step out the house Envy

toomuchtooold · 27/10/2018 11:55

unicornchaser how do you feel about "my wee da"? Not good I'm guessing Grin

ChodeofChodeHall · 27/10/2018 12:02

I agree with 'little man': it's cringetastic.

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 27/10/2018 13:16

Crimbo
Crem (it's crematorium, show some respect)
Panties
Titties and boobies (makes me cringe)
Pus
Hun
Fur babies (makes me want to vomit)
Hubster
Little or lil man
My bad (your bad WHAT?)
Little boy's or girl's room - it's a toilet, lavatory or loo for god's sake
Terf
Looking at this list makes me realise I'm quite judgemental Blush

NoisyBrain · 27/10/2018 13:45

I hate pretentious hipster terms used to describe food & drink. Such as:

smashed (avocado) - it's mashed!!
crushed (potatoes) - lumpy mash!
artisanal - wtf does that even MEAN?!
muddled - so, that'll be stirred then?
craft (beer) - just fuck off

I blame M&S. Bastards.

Oh, and still on the pretentious theme - curated. Usually in the context of some kind of wanky highbrow performances at such & such a theatre, CURATED by [insert well-known actor/musucian's name here] What's wrong with 'organised/put together by'?!

I feel much better for getting that all out there Grin

Ngaio2 · 27/10/2018 14:21

@Bubblesinthetub even worse when it pronounced “little ‘un “ with a glottal stop in the “ little”

strawberrisc · 28/10/2018 11:43

@IwantedtobeEmmaPeel

Were we separated at birth? Do you have the other half of my locket?
