Periods.. anyone had this?

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 25/10/2018 10:52

I have been on the pill for years. Worked brilliantly. Didn’t have periods at all and if I did get anything it was only enough for a panty liner if that.

The Last six months. my periods have started again. But they are not heavy just long.

My period last time last over three weeks. This months I will have been on for four weeks on sat.

My doctor has sent me for a scan which is on sat morning. Just wondered if anyone else has had this. As I’m working myself up into a huge state. I have no one to come with me and I’m getting a bit scared.

I will be 43 next month.

Sounds about right. In my experience in early 40's it all goes to pot.

It sucks.

Don't worry though. Most of my friends have seen the dr about this sort of thing. You'll be fine.

Thanks for your answer

I’m sure your scan will be fine, I’m afraid it’s par for the course for peri menopause, very common for periods to become irregular or heavy and long, welcome to pre menopausal madness 😡

LanguidLobster · 25/10/2018 15:45

Oh honestly the scan doesn't hurt at all. It's over quickly.

They'll try to do do it externally first if your bladder is full enough (actually god knows why they need a full one) then internally if not but it's brief and painless.

I'd come with you myself if I lived near you.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 25/10/2018 15:52

Ahhh thankyou. I know I’m being silly. Do people think this is peri menopause then. Ugh. How did I get old enough to be doing this kind of crap !!!

I've had two internal scans. Honestly nothing to get worried about. I know that's easy for me to say but it's just like a bit of a longer smear - they cover you up and are looking at a screen. Always been women that have done mine and last time I had a trainee and the two women were lovely and really put me at ease.

rosie39forever · 25/10/2018 18:47

My peri symptoms started in my early forties, I’m now 49 and they’re still going strong, I’ve had quite a few scans as I have fibroids and honestly they were all fine, the worst part is s having to have a full bladder, I think most period blips in your forties are up and down hormone related and totally normal, but if they do become a problem go to your gp you don’t have to put up with it.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 25/10/2018 19:45

Thanks. I’m starting to feel a bit calmer about it now

Beware, after the scan when you go for results they will shove a triple ton of leaflets at you and yap on and it can be overwhelming on the spot!!

I just started frowning and stuffed them into my handbag. Nothing showed on my scan so back in for scrape scrape scrape blood tests soon.

Scan is really the easiest bit.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 25/10/2018 20:55

When does it stop being peri and move onto the real thing

Purplejay · 25/10/2018 21:03

Yep, early 40s all goes to pot!

I had long, heavy, painful period. Took iron for anemia. Had tests, all fine. Transvaginal scan (presuming that is what you are having is a breeze. You will be fine, nothing to worry about. Easier than a smear,

Then i had a period which lasted 8 weeks. I was goven progesterone to stop it then out on mini pill. After about 4 months no periods just rare occassional spotting. Its fantastic!

Purplejay · 25/10/2018 21:04

Sorry for typos and crappy punctuation!

MaryPoppinsUmberellaHandle · 25/10/2018 21:17

Another who hit the pre-menopause in my early 40's. Previous to that, you could set your clock to my periods.

I also had the trans-vaginal scan, which was very straightforward - In fact, I preferred it more than the obligatory smear!

I am now on Loestrin and my periods are barely there, which is a huge relief from 2/3 week long periods.

Alexandra2018 · 25/10/2018 21:21

I've got the implant no bleeding for 3 years now it's on and off days at a time I think I need it out to regulate it, it's like I go to the toilets and oh I'm bleeding again great

Sassielassie · 25/10/2018 21:31

Yeah. Welcome to perimenopause Wink. Have a merena coil to regulate heavy periods. Booked a holiday. Took period. Thought..fantastic!! Period will be gone by holidays. Period lasted 21 bloody days (pardon the pun). Couldnt decide whether to take out shares in a certain feminine product company or sue them for false advertising. I didnt go jet skiing, absailing or cycling about in white bikinis or beige shorts even once on my holiday. Hmm

rosie39forever · 25/10/2018 21:50

Peri can last for over 10 years🙄

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 26/10/2018 06:41

10 years!!!!! Well. Bugger that!

I like the idea I can change my tablets and this may help with the periods again. Seriously. Four weeks is enough. It’s not heavy just annoying.

Thanks for the answer let everyone. U really have put my mind at rest

I had exactly the same this time last year. Been on the mini pill for 11 years with next to no bleeding, then bled on and off for a few weeks. Doctor sent me for a scan which was just like an ultrasound that you have when pregnant. They told me there and then that there were absolutely no abnormalities at all and no explanation for the bleeding other than it could be my age(43!!) or that this odd, irregular bleeding can be very common on the mini pill even after years of no bleeding.

I had something similar again last month, a 2 week on and off period, which didn't worry me so much (despite having raging health anxiety!) because I've had it properly investigated.

I don't think you've a thing to worry about but always good to get checked over.

VisitorsEntrance · 26/10/2018 16:21

I’ve had my first 12 weeks on the injection. I’ve new been bleeding, only spotting, for 4 weeks. Thankfully I use washables and a cup or I would be pissed off at the cost!

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 26/10/2018 17:23

I’m not so worried anymore. Thanks to u guys in here. Just a bit pissed that I’m still on. Four weeks and counting.

Just wanted to pop on and say for anyone having this problem as well. I had my scan this morning. All is fine. I have a very thin lining. So. I’m just starting that wonderful thing us ladies have to put up with.

Now I can be a lady of a certain age.
