So how long does a 250ml bottle of shower gel last you?

I admit a kind of TAAT, but some were saying that a 250ml bottle of shower gel would last them 3 months. I think this is way outside the norm. Probably lasts me a few weeks. What about you?

As to the soap question...on me, soap equals spots, lots of spots...shower gel doesn’t! Goodness knows why but it’s true, sadly. But with a puff my (expensive, present) shower gel lasts about three months.

These threads are gold!
We are those people who use a £1 coin sized amount of shower gel, wash bodies in shampoo lather from head if washing hair at the same time, and don't shower every day. Current tube of Fenjal ( Blush homage to 70s childhood) has lasted 4 people 3 months and still has some left. Don't really aim for a lather, I can just feel if my hands feel soapy as I wash myself, and that small amount is always enough. Granted, DP takes a separate bottle to the gym every other day.
If we bathe, we use bar soap.
Those of you who use huge amounts, do you soap up with the shower running so it kind of runs off while you are applying it? Don't you get really slippery? I imagine some of those amounts would baste me from head to toe.
As I said, I love these threads!

Not long at all - perhaps a week; couple of showers per day usually and I like to use lots!

A580Hojas · 25/10/2018 19:36

I've been using soap in the shower for years. I just don't understand why people think they need a different product?

A lovely big bar of Nesti Dante or L'Occitane lasts me about 3 to 4 weeks and I shower every day. And only a bit of paper as packaging.

If I wanted to budget I would use Nivea creme soap or Lidl's aloe vera Cien.

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 25/10/2018 19:39

Blimey.

£1 of Radox lasts me several weeks - couldn't tell you how many, but 2+ months anyway. Soft water area. I shower daily using one of those nylon scrunchy puff things, which seems to make a lather out of nothing, so I need only a tiny blob of gel.

The shower cubicle would be thick with bubbles if I used it all up in a week!!

DragonMamma · 25/10/2018 19:51

overmydeadbody how is that even possible? 2 showers a day for 6 months equates to 360 or so shower. Therefore you must be using just over 0.5ml every time you shower.

I use roughly a bottle a week-fortnight. I’m fairly liberal and use a poof but tbh, I get bored of a smell so use them quickly to get on to the next one over bought.

Saying that, I’ve been using a bar of soap this week (following a thread on here) and it’s been great! I’ve felt super squeaky clean and my deodorant has lasted much longer. I’ve easily used at least a third of a bar though Blush

Cachailleacha · 25/10/2018 19:53

Shower gel 250ml, shampoo 300ml and conditioner 250ml- all about 3 months

OurMiracle1106 · 25/10/2018 20:02

Depends on how often I’m showering. When it’s hot weather I will shower twice a day. (Or shower am and bath pm)

A bottle lasts about 2/3 weeks.

overmydeadbody · 27/10/2018 16:38

I don't know dragon, I just pop a drop our trip of gel on the poof and scrub my body to the bubbles stop.

I know is given a bottle at Christmas and it ran out in June, then opened another one at the end of July (first I used up some travel sized ones I had) and it's a quarter finished.

OvOntToSuckYourBlood · 27/10/2018 16:50

Months! I must have had my latest one at least 5 months.

Soft water, use a puff thingy, shower ever second day. A little goes a long way!

Plus I’m short, there’s less of me than most people! Grin

starzig · 27/10/2018 16:50

Depends on the quality.

Smallhorse · 27/10/2018 17:35

Shower gel is a complete con.
A bar of soap lasts so much longer.
Especially used with one of those scrubby things you get in your unwanted Christmas gift sets .

If soap were invented AFTER shower gel, everyone would think it was a massive improvement !

Idontmeanto · 27/10/2018 17:38

Family of five here, we need two a week.

notsureIsignedupforthis · 27/10/2018 17:52

Soft water area about a month to 6 weeks, a teaspoon blob on a net 'puff' works, any more and I'm washing bubbles down the drain to rinse the puff

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 27/10/2018 18:47

If you’re using your shower gel every day, and it’s a 250ml bottle, and it’s lasting three months, then you’re using about 2.5ml a day (half a calpol syringe)

That’s probably around the amount I use on a shower puff thing. Doesn’t always last 3 months though because I often shower twice a day (if I’ve exercised etc).

bebesequin · 27/10/2018 18:49

I was buying 8 x 250 mls gels a month.
And running out.
Three of us in the house.
Started buying bars of lovely vegetable soap from Tk Maxx
And a little ceramic soap dish
They last way over a month
Skin is much softer
Smell divine and cost approx. £3-£4 a bar as opposed to £1-50 a bottle for shower gel.

redsummershoes · 27/10/2018 18:50

a bar of soap lasts 4 of us about 3 months.
a bottle would maybe last 2-3 weeks. such a waste.

BentNeckLady · 27/10/2018 18:54

I always stock up on olive oil bar soaps when I’m abroad. My skin is so much better since ditching all the gels and creams and potions.

And I’m not adding to the plastic nightmare . If everyone used 8 bottles of shower gel a month imaging the waste!

mrsm43s · 27/10/2018 18:55

2-3 months,but..

  • just DH and I using it
  • we have a dispenser that is harder to over-dose from than the shower gel bottle
- soft water area -use a flannel

Kids get through the bottle in their bathrooms in about a week!

MadMum101 · 27/10/2018 18:56

We go through 3-4 a week. Even if I buy the 500ml bottles they don't last much longer. DH and I generally use soap but sometimes fancy a different smell.

6 of us with an SN teen DS who has no understanding of 'you only need a little bit'.

bigsighall · 27/10/2018 19:39

Wow some wasteful shower gel practices here Grin
I would say 3 months ish is about right. Defo use a puff you only need a tiny bit (hard water area)

bluebump · 27/10/2018 19:43

Quite a while but mainly because I have a few different ones open at any one time plus I alternate with nice soap too.
