Why do you love your job?

SawnUpLooRoll · 23/10/2018 17:28

Having seen a whole FB feed of friends moaning about their jobs today, I'd love to see a positive work thread :)

What do you do, and why do you love it?

No moaning or negatives allowed!

Love mine.

Get paid a decent amount of money, work from home, out and about visiting customers when I need to. Have complete control over my diary and my day. This gives me the opportunity to drop the dc off and collect from school most days. My boss is happy to leave me to it as long as the customers are happy. I’ve built up a good relationship with most of the companies I work with, so visiting them or sorting problems out is a positive experience. They trust me and I feel a sense of pride when I turn things from shot, to great for them

Well, I'm a self employed digital artist and actually do love my job 😀 I'm free to work when I want (although it appears I'm a workaholic as I never stop 😬).

Best bit about my job is creating custom/personalised prints-I just love it when they love it, and that's why I do it. I love bringing a little bit of joy to peoples lives

Timeforabiscuit · 23/10/2018 17:37

I get to be an expert in what i do and never know what's going to happen one day to the next.

Whatever I think I know feels woefully inadequate the following day - always more to learn!

AutumnGirl78 · 23/10/2018 17:41

I love my job

Can work (quite) flexiblily in that I can do school run a few days a week

Can leave at a moment's notice if dc is ill or if there is something going on outside of work that I need to do

Pay is good and good benefits

My manager lets me get on with it and I enjoy the team I manage

Opportunities for further progression!

happypotamus · 23/10/2018 17:46

I'm a nurse. Sometimes I hate my job, but overall, despite everything, I love it. I love the teamwork and have an amazing team of colleagues. I love making a difference to people and I love most of our patients and families. I love that everyday is different with different challenges (I don't love all the challenges that we face though). Recently, there have been some rubbish shifts and I have been increasingly disillusioned, so thanks for reminding that I do actually love it and making me think about why.

LostInShoebiz · 23/10/2018 17:50

Paid well to buy shoes all day (albeit in bulk quantities and then take the rap if they don’t sell).

HelenaJustina · 23/10/2018 17:52

Super super flexible, part time term time. Works around my family. Having a rough time with my team at the moment so am looking around for something new but I do appreciate I have it good most of the time!

Layoverlife · 23/10/2018 18:04

I work for the ambulance service I absolutely love my job, never knowing what the day is going to bring, meeting and working with some fantastic people and making a difference / helping people when the need me at their most vulnerable or sick time, the satisfaction I get after a very long day or night shift makes it all the worthwhile and wouldn't change my job for the world...

Oh and Driving on lights and sirens 🤗 I love it 🚑🚨

paw1977 · 23/10/2018 18:11

I love my job because it's really flexible , can drop kids off at school and pick up, 10 mins drive from my house . Flexible enough to leave if I need to . Also the option to work over time at home if needs be .

ElleMcFearsome · 23/10/2018 18:11

Because I work with teenagers in a secondary school (non teaching post) and they are amazing and vibrant, challenging, yes, but also inquisitive and optimistic and trying to work out their place in the world.

Ever day is new and it's never boring (heart breaking, yes but not boring) and I have a faint hope that on occasion, I actually make a meaningful difference to someone's life. Can't ask for more, really.

Kezzie200 · 23/10/2018 18:12

Another well paid self employed and I love that I dont really know what Im going to be asked each day. Agreed each day has an element of repetitive work but even that needs me to remain aware as changes to legislation and cases are a constant.

Today I have done 7 things and four I couldn't have predicted when I went in this morning. I love that sort of challenge.

yetanothernewusername1 · 23/10/2018 18:43

I work with patients with cancer and weirdly I love my job. It's a privilege to be involved and help them and their families at their most vulnerable time...the particular skill I'm good at puts patients at ease and I have amazing relationships with many of my patients that I've seen every week for years! I love how no two days are the same, I adore my colleagues...management can be a bit meh but that's the joys of the nhs! The benefits far outweigh the bad! Also nice hours, mon-fri no bank holidays!

Meet0nTheIedge · 23/10/2018 18:52

It's extremely flexible, part time, office based with very friendly colleagues, but I can work from home if necessary (I prefer being office based). I manage my own workload, the pay's pretty decent, it's a fairly easy commute, free parking, good all round really.

Faster · 23/10/2018 18:54

Nhs nurse.
I bloody love that the team I work with makes massive, huge, amazing changes in people’s quality of life and that in a small way I get to be part of that. Who wouldn’t wanna make someone’s life better?
I work with some amazing people, proper characters.

adaline · 23/10/2018 18:57

I meet some really interesting people, get to fuss tons of cute dogs, have made friends with regular customers and have never once dreaded going to work!

Newyearnewbrain · 23/10/2018 19:00

I've just started as a freelance writer. It's bloody terrifying and exhilarating in equal degrees. I definitely work harder for myself than for anyone else but the flexibility to do both school runs and go for a run or walk if I need a break is amazing.

I'm getting there gradually building up clients too! Working for yourself is brilliant and I'm totally having my own Christmas works do for one

MissDai5y · 23/10/2018 20:33

I help international students at a university. It's the best job. I get to help with a massive range of queries, from basic enquiries to some super complicated UKVI stuff. They always keep me busy.

I know you're not supposed to have favourites, and I never treat anyone differently, but some people make me happier than others.

Likewise, some of them have favourites, usually more complicated enquiries and prefer one adviser to help over another. Each of us enjoy taking on a case and following it all the way through.

LadyFlumpalot · 23/10/2018 20:49

It's fascinating, right on the cutting edge of the industry. The role pays well, awesome benefits package and my boss is brilliant. They understand the importance of a decent work/life balance and trust the staff to be adult and responsible enough to manage our own workloads accordingly.

donkeysandzebras · 23/10/2018 20:55

Because it is really interesting, means I have to use my brain, I never know what is going to come across my desk next, most of my colleagues are very skilled at their area of work but are willing to spend time bringing me up to speed when necessary and my boss and I have a similar sense of humour which helps as sometimes it can get really stressful.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/10/2018 21:45

Decent money. Work with a really good team. Lots of cute babies to cuddle!

TheWiseWomansFear · 23/10/2018 22:16

I'm a journalist. I love that it's so varied, everyone is passionate, it's interesting, I get to pick what I write about and every single day is different.

Plus, we get loads of free shit.

FantailsFly · 23/10/2018 22:20

I took a step backwards (downsized?) into a job I love. It's creative, uses all my experience and knowledge, pay is decent, I feel appreciated, colleagues are nice, and it's stress-less.

iloveeggandcressbutties · 23/10/2018 22:25

NHS Community Mental Health Nurse , bloody love it but can see it becoming more difficult in the future.
