Which kitchen layout would you choose?

Floor to Ceiling

  1. Builtin fridge freezer
  2. Dishwasher Oven and Microwave housed next to fridge freezer unit

Wall Units
a) Under counter fridge
b) dishwasher
c) oven (under hob)
d) Microwave

I really can't decide :(

Also welcome to comments/advice/critique on layouts etc.

I'd do full height fridge etc. You can never have too much fridge space. Can you move the hob? Otherwise you can't have any stools by the bar bit? We use our bar bit far more than i though we would.

DeadBod · 23/10/2018 16:29

Floor to ceiling makes it look a bit cramped. I'd also move the job so that that bit (breakfast bar?) is more usable.
What is to the left of the I internal kitchen door? If it's a wall then opening onto floor to ceiling units would feel enclosed

Where would you move the hob to?

Also, how accessible is that microwave? Would you be able to reareachit ok?

I'd place the job on the opposite wall, it would be nearer the sink.

I wouldn't have the hob there, I don't know if you have or are intending to have children, but it would be far too easy for them to reach hot pans from the table side when they are young, if you ever intend selling the house that would put me off if I was in that situation. I don't thin you are allowed to have hobs under windows so it would have to go on the opposite side over the oven, which rules out full height fridges etc.

Bobbybobbins · 23/10/2018 16:55

I wouldn't have the hob there either - would have it on opposite wall

Storm4star · 23/10/2018 16:58

I agree the hob isn't in a great position and the area looks a bit cramped. Could you maybe ditch the whole side where the hob is. Move the table around and make use of that back wall? Maybe that's where you could have your fridge freezer etc. Then the hob can comfortably go where the oven is currently meant to go. If that makes sense? With the above layouts you also have very little work surface and it all seems to be based on having the table and chairs where it is. You could have the table length ways with all the chairs tucked in when it's not being used?

Bubblysqueak · 23/10/2018 16:58

I would move the hob to the opposite wall, I wouldn't want anyone knocking pans from the dining table side of the hob.

TheMagicalChicken · 23/10/2018 17:04

How about this layout?

I am happy to move the hob :)

Am I correct in thinking there's 3 doors that lead into the kitchen? That seems to be the main problem. Might be going a bit far now but is there one of those doors you could block off? I definitely prefer the last layout to the first ones you posted. It looks more usable.

TheMagicalChicken · 23/10/2018 18:13

THe 'middle' door is a cupboard.

the door on the left is to a hall way, the one opposite the window to living room

Under counter fridges are a pita.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/10/2018 18:29

If the fridge freezer was going to be the only tall unit then personally I wouldn't bother building it in as there's a much better selection of freestanding ones and they tend to have better capacity too. Different if you have a bank of tall units or for washing machines/dishwashers in the middle of a run but we didn't bother and were able to get a much better fridge freezer.

Neshoma · 23/10/2018 18:49

My first thought is the hob. Imagine having boiling liquid bubble over onto toddlers. Doesnt bear thinking about.

TheMagicalChicken · 23/10/2018 19:02

Hob will be moved to opposite wall more than likely.

I'm now erring towards the last layout....

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 23/10/2018 19:14

I was also going to say about the job, not near the table. I like the layout with floor to ceiling units at one end, but not sure where you would put the hob then?

Heratnumber7 · 23/10/2018 19:16

I would never again have an under the counter fridge or oven.

Metaplasia · 23/10/2018 19:35

Definitely the last one! The others look wrong to me. Also I hate having the hob and the oven at opposite sides of the kitchen, doesn't make sense. Also second that under counter fridges are a pita.

bestbefore · 23/10/2018 21:04

Like the last one! Could you have a free standing ff where the stand alone units are and make a bar area where the ff is now?
