I've just found it on an obscure movie channel. Do you like it? As a teenager I loved it but recently it occurred to me that it's a bit weird to set an entirely fictional and unlikely romance against the backdrop of a real and horrific accident. You'd not find anyone making a 9/11 romance, so why is it ok to do this? Maybe this should be in aibu?!

The romance served a purpose. It gave many opportunities to explore the huge social class differences but show those on board were all people, nobody was truly better than the others in spite of the social attitudes. It also nods to the huge social changes in class place that were about to happen (esp. post WWI).

Many social conscience worthy approaches including actual lived stories had been filmed quite a bit previously, a fresh angle was reasonable. Compared to other fictionalised versions of history that totally change the characters & sequence of events (eg., The Imitation Game I find this film pretty forgiveable).

CSI-NY has a character in long term morning for wife who died in TwinTowers. It's a recurring theme in the series. It's ok to feel sad for fictional victims of real events.

I would have walked out if I hadn’t been in the middle of a very long row trapped by sobbing women. My Soto voce ‘just fucking sink’ didn’t go down well.

I'm sure everyone in your row would have preferred a moment's inconvenience to let you get out rather than having to listen to you muttering for two hours peridot.

It was once, towards the end when my bum was numb....

It's about to start on Film 4 plus 1...

I've got it on now. Not really watching and have the sound off. Kate Winslett has been rushing hither and thither through torrents of water, yet her lipstick looks freshly applied. Her hair is wet, though, but rather attractively.
