Would you walk out of a film you hated?

A couple sat near me in the cinema tonight were both on Facebook for most of the evening, and left at the closing credits muttering ‘that was fucking shite’.

Why didn’t they just leave? I couldn’t sit through something that was clearly boring me to death.

Yes, I would, if I wasn't with people who were enjoying it. I would have walked out of all the Harry bloody Potter films I had to sit through for DC and The Greatest Showman and Mama Mia both of which I found to be boring, cliche shite (although I know I'm in the minority there).

Aethelthryth · 22/10/2018 07:30

Closest I came was Les Miserables, which was excruciatingly boring; but I thought (mistakenly) that my son and husband were enjoying it so didn't. Also The Last King of Scotland, because the depictions of violence were so gratuitous

Upsy1981 · 22/10/2018 07:33

Nah, just have a sleep. But tbh I fall asleep most times I go to the cinema whether I'm enjoying the film or not! There's something about sitting still in the dark that makes me doze off.

funmummy48 · 22/10/2018 07:38

I've only ever walked out of one film, A Walk in the Woods. The book by Bill Bryson, was hilarious but the film was dire. I've had a little sleep in various other films. I was unconscious for about an hour of Lalaland!

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 22/10/2018 07:55

@2shins, thanks for the explanation. I'm Irish and was born in the 60s so I should probably have known that! I'm sure my husband has an Aunt Sinead that's older than that though.

youngestisapsycho · 22/10/2018 08:00

A group of us walked out when watching The Women... it was so boring and crap! Fallen asleep quite a few times when taking the kids to crappy films.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 22/10/2018 08:01

A quick google throws up Sinead De Valera so not exactly anachronistic!

IamPickleRick · 22/10/2018 08:01

Dreamgirls.

vampirethriller · 22/10/2018 08:05

I've walked out of 6 Days 7 Nights, American Assassin and Early Man.

HarrySnotter · 22/10/2018 08:13

Walked out of Natural Born Killers as it was so appalling.

AlpacaPicnic · 22/10/2018 08:14

I do have some of my best naps in the cinema... I slept through the whole first Transformers movie but it was the midnight showing and I was very drunk.
Nowadays it's a mark of a very enjoyable film if I stay awake the whole time!

Oh, and for the pp who also experienced a power cut during American Hustle, i live in Britain's Ocean City!

hmmwhatatodo · 22/10/2018 08:15

I generally sit and fall asleep (don’t go very often so not a big deal). At the theatre many years ago I really was bored rigid watching Waiting for Godot. I didn’t get it all all and it was painfully boring for me but I think I had to sit through it as I was with a university group and later I had to listen to lots of people talk about how amazing it was which just made me feel really dim!

Scotstar · 22/10/2018 08:15

Yep. Can't remember what though.

Also left half way through the musical cats. Gutted as i was really looking forward to it but it was truly shite!

newyearwhoohoo · 22/10/2018 08:36

FissionChips
That'll be Open Water, the man and woman treading water in the ocean. We left after 10 minutes too. The images were grainy, awful. It was unwatchable. We also got a refund!

Cocobana · 22/10/2018 08:38

Yes and I have, why waste your time?

LeftRightCentre · 22/10/2018 08:41

Absolutely! I've walked out of loads. When I walked out of Titanic I left two mates who'd already seen it twice before and went to a bar in the shopping centre where the cinema was. Met a guy there whom I went out with a few months so bonus!

BillywilliamV · 22/10/2018 08:43

I wouldnt let my teenage DD walk out of "The House with the Clock in its walls" because I couldnt leave my othrr DD. Teenager ended up literally lying on the floor between the seats and it turned out youngest had been asleep for over an hour

LizzieSiddal · 22/10/2018 08:48

We left American Hustle, it was garbage.

We also didn’t watch the second half of The Book Of Morman. I didn’t want to wait around to see if a whole village of women got raped.

LizzieSiddal · 22/10/2018 08:50

Oh and I’ve fallen asleep during many, children’s films. I slept most of the way through Lord Of The Rings.

queenofgoogle · 22/10/2018 08:56

Shock I loved Macbeth with MF! Although that may just be because I find him to be beautiful.Blush
I did walk out of a chick movie and also wanted desperately to walk out of Hostel but the guy I was watching it with was enjoying the seeing the naked girls and didn't want to leaveHmm

queenofgoogle · 22/10/2018 08:57

chick movie should say Chucky movie

RedDwarves · 22/10/2018 09:05

Well, I for one am glad that so many others thought American Hustle was shit. Grin

Notjustanyone · 22/10/2018 09:05

Nah if it's rubbish I just fall asleep. My dad was the same.

Notjustanyone · 22/10/2018 09:07

I mean I've paid for that seat and I'm terminally knackered anyway so why not have a nap if it's shite.

drspouse · 22/10/2018 09:08

I never bother going to see horror or sci fi so no need to walk out!
Many of these I have loved though.
The main ones I've wanted to walk out of have been kids films. I'm in two minds about whether I'd let the DC leave because DS has zero attention span and usually says "this is boring" during the opening sequence. I'd rather he learned to stick with it.
