I’m a bit shit at baking and responsible for dessert tomorrow 🙈😬

About 10 people

What are your safest bets for such circumstances?

OP posts:
KindergartenKop · 20/10/2018 14:54

Baked apples and custard.

huggybear · 20/10/2018 14:56

@henrymouse

How does one explain a no bake Eton mess then?

ContadoraExplorer · 20/10/2018 14:59

Mary Berry's sticky toffee pudding recipe - prep in advance, cooks quickly to be ready for when you want pudding, and it's delicious!

TeddyIsaHe · 20/10/2018 15:01

Tiramisu! Once the marscapone is mixed it’s basically just putting it together. Easy and always goes down a storm.

Cheats gooseberry moose.
2 large tins evap, 2 tins gooseberry pie filling.
beat evap in mixer until really light and fluffy (expands to HUGE amount)
fold in pie filling to evap, put in pretty glasses.
This would work with other flavours of pie filling but must be sharp flavour as evap is so sweet.
appears much more impressive and complicated than it actually is.Smile

Chilled Lemon Flan @BugusBumus - that exact book and recipe is my 'go to' as well. Never ever fails to please everyone.

scaryteacher · 20/10/2018 15:08

Toffee apple pudding; apple (or some sort of fruit) crumble; very rich chocolate biscuit pudding; nutella pancakes (Nigella) which are just an assembly and heat job; oranges in caramel sauce; fresh fruit with a chocolate sauce to dip it in, and some cigarette biscuits, marshmallows etc if there are kids there.

scaryteacher · 20/10/2018 15:09

Meant to add, I live in Belgium, and there is no point in making a pud here when there are so many places that sell great patisserie.

starkid · 20/10/2018 15:18

For anyone else still looking for easy desserts/baking, I do this banana bread as my fail-safe, and add chocolate chips :)
allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/17145/unbeatable-banana-bread.aspx

Never goes wrong, and has flexibility on what sugar/butter you can use. Good for lunchboxes as well, I usually eat it over a week as on a plate covered in clingfilm it stays really moist! I actually prefer it after a couple of days

MsSquiz · 20/10/2018 15:18

Banoffee pie or Eve's pudding.

Banoffee pie is so simple, biscuit base (made with oaty biscuits rather than digestives) tin of ready made caramel combined with mashed bananas and whipped cream on top

Eve's pudding is my favourite - tin of apple pie filling topped with Victoria sponge mix, in the oven until the cake mix is cooked. You get the best crispy cake bits around the edges

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/10/2018 15:23

I just came onto the thread to give you the EXACT recipe that @BIWI has given you. It's my failsafe too, though I sometimes use ginger biscuits instead of digestives and sprinkle the top with crystallised ginger. I've given the recipe to SO many people; everyone always seems to want it Grin

savingmysanity · 20/10/2018 15:32

this is my go to:

Salted Caramel Torte

alternatively go to M&S, buy a cake, take it out the box and put it on a plate, smudge the icing a bit. Or a local farm shop where they make their own cakes

jjemimapuddleduck · 20/10/2018 15:35

Nigella's chocolate and raspberry pavlova is my go to. It is so easy but l99ks so impressive! If you are travelling though, I'd recommend taking all the elements seperately, all ready to go, and assembling on site.

HenryMouse · 20/10/2018 15:36

Chocolate and raspberries are my idea of nope!

Love this. I'm a good cook but rubbish at desserts.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 20/10/2018 15:43

Chocolate mousse. I'll try to find the recipe I've been using for the past forty years. Never found one better and whenever I have guests for dinner, it is frequently requested. Very rich and the quantity given should serve ten easily.

Charley50 · 20/10/2018 15:45

Eton mess. It's so easy (as long as you use ready made meringues) and it tastes nice.

ilovespinach · 20/10/2018 15:54

Nutella nutella cheesecake . Easy peasy and tastes incredible

ilovespinach · 20/10/2018 15:56

Nigella nutella cheesecake even....

overagain · 20/10/2018 15:56

Profiteroles or pavlova usually. Can be made ahead and finished off on the day.

mrsjackrussell · 20/10/2018 15:58

Eves pudding. Really easy. I don't cook the apples on the hob though. Just put apples in oven with cling film on then pour the sponge mix on top.
Loads of recipes online for it.

BrokenWing · 20/10/2018 15:59

Trifle or cheesecake

mrsjackrussell · 20/10/2018 16:00

Here's one and you don't cook apples first at all. Just omit raisins if you want.
