What are your safest bets for such circumstances?

Apple crumble and choice of posh custard or pish vanilla ice cream. Everyone loves a crumble!

SallyWD · 20/10/2018 14:11

Apple crumble and cream or ice cream

Apple crumble and custard

Apple crumble

Willow789 · 20/10/2018 14:14

Cheesecake sounds good

Chrisinthemorning · 20/10/2018 14:14

I was going to say lemon cheesecake but my recipe is a jar of lemon curd and 2 tubs mascarpone cheese mixed together on the biscuit base Grin

motherlondon · 20/10/2018 14:15

Pavlova

huggybear · 20/10/2018 14:16

Pavlova.

I was confused by no bake Eton mess mentioned up thread, please don't buy those horrible meringue nests, they taste so synthetic. If you're going to buy a dessert then there are much nicer options.

Pavlova has very few ingredients but it can go wrong if you're a newbie to meringue.

LaGruffaloGrumble · 20/10/2018 14:17

@FissionChips What’s your bakewell pudding recipe please? I love it so much I end up getting it delivered online from Bakewell :/

My go to would be an apple crumble and ice cream too...

lots33 · 20/10/2018 14:24

I do a really easy sort of ice cream/ semi freddo thing. Line load tin with cling film. Mix some whipped cream, crushed meringue and lemon curd. Lemon zest if feeling posh! Bung into the cling, wrap cling loosely around and freeze for 6 hours ish. Take out half hour before eating, take cling off, bung on platter. V easy, yummy and impressive, prefer it to Eaton mess cos can make it advance and refreeze leftovers.

Chilled Lemon Flan from my mums early 70s 'Hamlyn's All Colour Cookbook' Smile - this is more or less the same recipe. Really really simple and bloody gorgeous. I pipe the top with whipped cream and lemon slices though.

Lime cheesecake - use chocolate chip Maryland cookies for the base and drizzle a bit of melted dark chocolate on too, it looks and tastes fantastic and is really easy.

TheFallenMadonna · 20/10/2018 14:33

Autumn/winter larger scale failsafe puddings for me would be

Make and take somewhere else: crumble
In my kitchen: self saucing chocolate pudding

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 20/10/2018 14:35

Delia's Lemon Meringue Pie always turns out well and is easier than expected (plus, has a wow factor). I use a bought base and prep the filling in advance. BUT it uses a lot of utensils / bowls.

Otherwise, crumble. Plum with ginger makes a change from apple, and add granola to the topping.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 20/10/2018 14:39

Rice pudding or cheesecake

attentionspan · 20/10/2018 14:39

Another vote for crumble.

gothefcktosleep · 20/10/2018 14:45

I make a chocolate cheesecake and drop fudge pieces and stuff in the mix which makes it look and taste like I’m some kind of culinary goddess.

Brigante9 · 20/10/2018 14:45

Naughty pudding. Aunt’s recipe. Dead easy.

Whip large pot of double cream til almost stiff.
Add standard tin of custard.
Stick small chocolate cookies together with melted chocolate (family bar, reserve 4 squares for decoration) and some of cream/custard mix. Pour over enough brandy or sherry so it absorbs. Pour over cream/custard mix. Grate remaining chocolate over it.
Chill til required.

TheFaerieQueene · 20/10/2018 14:48

This is so simple and apparently delicious- I have made it again for tonight’s supper with friends. I’m not having it as I’m vegan, but it is a repeatedly requested dessert.

This cheesecake always goes down a storm in big groups and is super quick and easy. allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/6133/white-chocolate-and-raspberry-cheesecake.aspx

Otherwise, these brownies really are the best ever. Serve with some good quality vanilla ice cream and raspberries, or blood orange sorbet could work too!

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/10/2018 14:49

I love baking but when it comes to dessert I like to have a choice so it's off to M&S for me. I pick something chocolate and something fruit and usually have a bit of both!

HenryMouse · 20/10/2018 14:51

huggybear Eton Mess isn’t made with meringue nests Confused

toastfiend · 20/10/2018 14:51

Oh, this is also lovely and incredibly easy. I leave out the cinnamon and add a big gkug of cointreau instead though. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1357/decadent-chocolate-truffle-torte%3famp

DeadCertain · 20/10/2018 14:52

I love baking. A simple one that is just in the oven for a meal at our friends' house tonight is baked lemon cheesecake. Does require baking but isn't tricky.

I top it with sour cream with lemon curd swirled in and fresh raspberries.

Bluntness100 · 20/10/2018 14:53

Too late for you, but for anyone else, I always buy a huge cheesecake from the English cheesecake company on line. They are so good.

I simply am shit at baking and woild rather throw money at it. 🤣
