Hairy arms

Exactly that..... i have hairy arms, always have but they seem worse lately, not sure if it's because they are worse or if it's because I'm generally having a crisis of confidence. I feel sooooo conscious of it.
Anywho, I don't really want to shave as I don't want it to come back stubbly. Does anyone use hair removal cream? Any tips? Thanks.
Hairy Mary.

Get them waxed

ThanksHunkyJesus · 16/10/2018 21:13

Ladyshaver?

SlB09 · 16/10/2018 21:13

Same here, have you been checked over for the usual suspects? PCOS etc? If not then go get checked out but otherwise I epilate my arms and have done for a few years and the hair is much thinner now and doesnt come through anymore in other areas. Worth a try x

Bleach them. The boots hair lightner is cheap and effective

KingIrving · 16/10/2018 21:15

Do laser. They will be gone forever

squirrelnutkins1 · 16/10/2018 21:21

Thanks everyone. I use the boots hair lightener on my upper lip and it's great but I don't know if it'd work on my arms, the hair is long ish (urgh sounds awful saying that!!!)

Well tbh I've just freaked myself out googling and Mumsnetting PCOS. I do have some symptoms of it and already have endo and struggling to conceive.

Hate being a woman sometimes!!!!!

Honestly have no idea why anyone bleaches the hair. It still looks just as hairy, just yellowy/white hair instead!

Especially if you’re darker skinned it looks even weirder

Hohofortherobbers · 16/10/2018 21:24

Epilator, but brace yourself it hurts at first, you could just thin it out a bit, no one has totally smooth hair free arms. What colour is the hair? Very dark?

BitchyChuckle · 16/10/2018 21:25

I shave mine they don’t go stubbly like legs

ThanksHunkyJesus · 16/10/2018 21:25

I fully understand why you might want to do something about it but it's not disgusting or anything you should be ashamed of - I bet nobody else ever notices!

45Degrees · 16/10/2018 21:44

I have really, really hairy arms. Think Robin Williams' arms. Yup.
People notice! Polite people look, then look away. The more direct ones point it out!

I wax them with the home wax strips. It's over really quickly, and I find I can leave it a couple of months before they need doing again, as it grows back slowly (far slower than my leg hair!)

After waxing they look bald for about a week, then a "normal" amount of hair for a good few weeks, then it thickens out again. I don't bother in winter though. Extra warmth!

squirrelnutkins1 · 16/10/2018 21:51

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I know it's not disgusting but people have commented, not very often to be honest but I just feel super conscious. Maybe because my tans worn off now.

I'm fair skinned with pretty dark hair.

How much is a decent epilator? Just how painful is it!?

squirrelnutkins1 · 16/10/2018 21:52

@45Degrees bless ya!! You made me chuckle tho, robin williams 😂 is it super painful waxing them?

SlB09 · 16/10/2018 22:11

Mines just a basic epilator, boots own brand but I've had it years & never had any problems. Waxing is quicker though. (I have endo & pcos, struggled to concieve but now have a lovely one year old, keep trying Wink)

squirrelnutkins1 · 16/10/2018 22:23

@SlB09 thanks ❤️🙏🏻

I shave mine very couple of days. Well as often as I do my legs anyway

45Degrees · 17/10/2018 06:41

squirrelnutkins1 it's the least painful area I've tried waxing! But yes it still hurts.

I imagine epilating would be an easier way of keeping on top on the growth. I might try it based on so many suggestions on this thread.

If you try epilating make sure the hairs are short (maybe shave, then do it a couple of days later). Epilating long hairs just snaps them.

formerbabe · 17/10/2018 07:42

Epilate...it hurts but the more you do it, the better it gets. It's so satisfying too seeing all the hairs get ripped out!

FunSponges · 17/10/2018 08:01

Get the Phillips lumea. Pricey but worth it. I'm hairy and it's dark. Has slowed my growth right down and it's not growing back in places.

squirrelnutkins1 · 17/10/2018 14:36

Do you think I should shave/hair removal cream the first time then start using an epilator when they start growing back? They just seem a bit long to start epilating from the word go....

OP posts:
underneaththeash · 17/10/2018 15:00

I use an Epilator on my arms too. It's better after a couple of glasses of wine!

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/10/2018 15:11

I’m very hirsute but I shave and don’t get stubble, just quite soft regrowth. Usually shave arms twice a week, takes about a minute each. Waxing regularly too expensive for me and hair removal cream is a faff.

squirrelnutkins1 · 17/10/2018 15:15

I'm worried about it growing back thicker and darker DH is out tomorrow night so might have a bath and get rid of my monkey arms 😂

OP posts:
Hohofortherobbers · 17/10/2018 17:46

My epilator is a braun and was only about £30, I haven't noticed epilsting longer hairs snaps them, I grow my leg hair to full length before epilating

squirrelnutkins1 · 17/10/2018 17:57

How long does it take to do your arms/legs? Never epilated before. I imagine it to take quite a while....
