Fancy a bit of new telly tonight? There She Goes BBC4 10pm

I've just spotted a new 5-part series starting on BBC4 tonight at 10pm till 10.30pm - that's Tuesday 16.10.18 onwards.

I can't do a link - fingers crossed someone else will - but there's an interesting review in The Guardian: There She Goes - a brutal new comedy busting motherhood myths.

I've posted in SN Chat, but think it's got a broader appeal.

I'll be watching - hopefully! Will you join me?

I'm setting the tivo as early night for work.

TeenTimesTwo · 16/10/2018 19:01

It stars David Tennant and is about a family with a daughter with SN.
The trailer looked good.

WonderBoy · 16/10/2018 20:04

I haven't seen the trailer but it's The Guardian's Pick of the Day, and the online review is very good.

Yes, David Tennant and Jessica Hynes. It's apparently based on the real-life experiences of its writer Shaun Pye.

Something different. Thank goodness for that.

From The Guardian:

"Dad, Mum wants you: Rosie's hidden another poo".

'...billed as a comedy-drama, like the aforementioned poo, the laughs are rather deftly concealed amid the tough, very affecting subject matter and performances.'

I couldn't decide what to make of it except that it was very very sad. What did everyone else think?

hazeyjane · 16/10/2018 23:16

I thought it was very good.

Whilst making me quite emotional in places, I thought it was very funny.

WonderBoy · 17/10/2018 00:23

I thought it was very, very sad too newish, but like hazey I thought it was also very good and very funny in places, (although a couple of times the 'jokes' from Dad were unfortunately just cruel). A bit of an emotional roller-coaster ride, in fact! I'll be very interested to see it next week and how the series pans out. A pity it wasn't on BBC1 or 2 to reach a wider audience.

Thanks for posting the link to the trailer, toolazy.

Can anyone post a link to The Guardian review mentioned in the OP?

I've just watched this and thought it was brilliant.

I cried. But that was because I felt a huge connection to the mum. Hynes and Tennant were amazing. As always.

I think this is the first time anything like this had been in TV?

I'd love to know what those parents with DC with additional needs similar to Rosie think? My dd had a v difficult start and although she has issues still, it's not in the same league as this little girls character.

If anyone hadn't watched it, I definitely recommend.

Another thread here if you're interested User. Smile

WonderBoy · 19/10/2018 21:38

Hi user. Thanks for your post. I started a thread in SN Chat initially, before starting this one. I have a severely disabled DC, yes. Like you I was impressed by the first episode, and I shed some tears. Some differences of course, but I identified with all the family to varying degrees, especially with JHMum. It's pretty groundbreaking stuff. I hope the rest of the series doesn't disappoint - definitely looking forward to finding out more next week.

Morning all Brew
Just a reminder that the second episode of There She Goes is on BBC4 tonight at 10pm - 10.30pm. The first episode is available on BBC iPlayer, and I'd recommend you try to catch up on that before watching the rest of the series.

Tonight, it's Bath Night Shock with Rosie, and Mum Emily decides she needs a strategy...

Good luck with that one, Emily Wink

15 minutes to tonight's episode Wine

All being well here, I'm going to pop onto the thread in SN Chat after tonight's programme at about 10.30pm with a G&T if any other parents of severely disabled DC would like to join me. GinBrew

Well, watched it today on catch up

Oof, the bit in the library was like going back in time to the baby massage class I took ds to. The woman said, 'oh Hazeyboy will be too wriggly and trying to crawl away at that age, this class is for younger babies' we went anyway (out of desperation...I thought the massage might help with ds's constant screaming at night) and I remember this crushing feeling as all the babies that were months younger than ds wriggled and smiled and tried to flip over and ds just lay there, staring into space.

Wish ds would enjoy baths as much as Rosie.....they are a rare occurrence here as he hated them so much, watching them try to wrestle Rosie out of the bath was familiar though - when we do get Hazeyboy in the bath it's like wrestling an angry soapy tiger!

WonderBoy · 24/10/2018 18:12

Hi Hazey Smile
I wonder, if you're more technically brilliant than me, whether you can replicate your pp over onto the SN Chat thread - great to see you over there with other parents of severely LD DCs. Flowers

I have been watching this and really enjoying it. However, I feel utterly exhausted after watching it.. and I do not have kids!

WonderBoy · 25/10/2018 18:54

It's definitely helping to raise awareness then! Smile

Just a reminder that episode 3 of 5 is on tomorrow night (Tuesday 30 Oct) on BBC4 at 10pm.

What Rosie Wants - A trip to the swimming pool ends in disaster when Rosie decides she hates it. Mum Emily wonders if it's just because she wanted to do something else.

Episodes 1&2 available on catch up.

DMCWelshCakes · 29/10/2018 11:20

Thanks for flagging, OP.

It's a great series.

WonderBoy · 29/10/2018 11:29

You're welcome, DMC.

You're right - it's been really good so far. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens tomorrow night, G&T and hanky at the ready.

I've just watched the first episode of this- don't have SN child but am a parent and it totally had me in tears.

Fantastic acting from David and Jessica - lovely to see them together again.

I do feel my husband would have reacted similarly and very much 'there but for the grace of god go I'.

💐 and 🍷 for all the parents of children with SN - you are amazing.
