plantar fascia.. shoes!

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 12/10/2018 08:05

Hi!

I think I have plantar fascia, my heels are so painful, especially in my right foot. In the mornings I find it hard to walk on it. It’s still painful now. I think my flat primark ballet shoes are the reason. I find it hard to walk far because my feet hurt so much after. I have Clark’s brogues that I love but cause me bad blisters.

I love flat ballet type shoes to wear on my dress down days, when i wear leggings and brogues it doesn’t look good.

I’m 28 so I can’t find anything that doesn’t look too old. But I can’t carry on like this, it’s so painful 😪😪

I have a pair of Crocs that I use as slippers (recommended by my podiatrist) and I always wear mid heel height shoes

Ballet shoes are REALLY bad for your feet. You are better off with shoes with a half inch heel than any baller shoe.

You need cushioning.

Try Rieker. Fashionable shoes that are good for your feet. Amazon have loads with free returns.

Get some £25 insoles from Boots and wear shoes with a small heel.

I have this. Now wear sketchers go walk trainers on the commute (ugly but comfy), and fit flop sliders at home (advice is not to walk around barefoot much at home). Keep shoes at work and only wear ballerinas or heels when at work (desk job!)

It is much better now and only flares up if I wear ballerinas on the commute.

Plantar Fasciitis can be very painful. It is the heel part. Some people find that soft insoles inside their shoes help. Trainers are good. Ballet shoes don't offer any support for the feet. Take Ibuprofen for the pain.

I did all those things, plus exercises from a podiatrist, but ended up having corticosteroid injections from the doctor.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 12/10/2018 17:20

I have insoles and shoes from hotter. I also make sure I do my exercises every day that the physio gave me.
It’s horrible isn’t it. I had to give up my job as I couldn’t walk anymore.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 12/10/2018 17:22

Lay off flat shoes.

You need something with arch support.

AlexaAmbidextra · 12/10/2018 19:55

If you have PF completely flat shoes will make it worse. Ballet flats are dreadful for your feet.

Fudgefudgefudge · 12/10/2018 19:58

I’ve been suffering with the same thing thanks to ballet pumps and sandals. I am notoriously rubbish at walking in heels but I now wear low heels and my feet are so much better. Have a look on Deichmann’s website, they have some really comfy heels on there.

littlewoollypervert · 12/10/2018 20:15

Skechers shape ups.
Those ortho insoles.
Heels - 1 to 2 ins.
Tape your feet with kinesiology tape (YouTube videos show you how, you can get the tape in sports shops).
Never go barefoot.
Never wear flats.
Google the exercises and do them daily at least.

I got it a year ago and its nearly gone but I still have to do some/all of the above sometimes.

threeicklepickles · 12/10/2018 20:56

Skechers memory foam shoes/trainers. I lived in Birkenstock sandals over the summer. I use an insole as I have to wear safety boots for work. Don't go barefoot at home

allthesoddingdresses · 12/10/2018 21:05

Not a shoe suggestion but - I had dreadful PF for about the last 16 months or so. I bought a foot splint as recommended on here, wore it for 1 week and cured!! I expect it will come back but the relief of not being in burning agony was worth the week of disrupted sleep as it was quite hot and uncomfortable to sleep in.
Def worth a try in my opinion Smile

oldsilver · 12/10/2018 21:06

Exercises daily to stretch especially before you get up - use a towel to pull the toes towards you and stretch the ligament BEFORE you attempt to walk. It tightens at night and during inactivity, this is the painful bit.

Arch supports/insoles in all shoes. No flats at all. I live in Fitflops when its warm enough and don't need insoles.

If especially painful I found rolling my soles on a frozen tin of beans helped. If inactive use a tennis ball to roll around under your soles.

Good luck - it will get better, eventually!

antwaki · 12/10/2018 21:51

PF is horrible have had it for what seems like forever - but actually 18 months or so. Stretching calves and feet before getting up helps but Fitflop shoes are the only thing I wear now. Got some leather hi-top boot types and were such a relief, pain free walking and in the daytime for first time. Bought 3 pairs the same and am gonna get some shoe versions for smart/work.

Goingonandonandon · 12/10/2018 21:56

Fit flops are fab.. the shoes not the sandals.

Bestseller · 12/10/2018 22:01

Some Clarks ballet pumps are OK, they have a small heel and some cushioning in the heel.

Load of calf stretching, 30s numerous times per day. Ice every time you sit down. Use a roller or give feet a good massage before you get out of bed.

NotTheChef · 12/10/2018 22:11

I have these insoles and put them in most shoes, boots, converse etc

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 12/10/2018 22:13

Another vote for Skechers Go walk shoes here. They are not stylish but so comfortable.

thebear1 · 12/10/2018 22:16

I wear fitflop, they have some ballet styles. The best thing has been wearing a splint at night.

3boysandabump · 12/10/2018 22:30

I'm just wearing trainers at the moment. Ditched all the ballet pumps on advice of my gp. Currently waiting for ultrasound therapy and praying it works because I'm sick of the pain

Ignoramusgiganticus · 12/10/2018 22:34

I found that 1 1/2 to 2 inch heeled boots in winter helped enormously. My problem was in the summer.

As injection guided in by ultrasound eventually cured my problem. It went in the wrong place the first time it was attempted without ultrasound and it didn't work.

www.simplyfeet.co.uk/
This is the place that is full of shoes for sore feet. Vionics are very good for me.

Truckingonandon · 13/10/2018 09:27

Clarks cloudsteppers are even more comfy than Skechers go walk but you have to pick the style carefully, as most of them are not stylish!

MissCalamity · 13/10/2018 09:36

I wear my DP's crocs round the house now instead of slippers, (He has two pairs) After the horrific pain I had at the start of September with it has calmed down a bit doing the exercises recommended by the physio, luckily now it's chunky winter boots, rather than flats & sandals. I also was the gel heel insoles & can swap them between shoes.
Check if your nhs are doing a walk in ha clinic for PF, I've just recently seen one for my area which starts next month which I may go to.

MrsMoastyToasty · 13/10/2018 09:46

I was also advised to wear shoes that enclosed the feet so that my toes weren't trying to "claw" to gain a purchase.
