Baby has chicken poops, can older child go to nursery?

As title. And also, we don’t have anyone to watch small, so can I take them to the supermarket to get nappies and calamine and things? What else do I need?

I would say the older child can go to nursery but would you have anyone to take them in as personally I don’t think you should set foot into nursery with the younger one if they have chicken pox. Likewise, I think it’s unfair to go to the shop with a child with chicken pox. Is ther anyone you can ask to deliver things to you? Hope the baby gets better soon.

newmumwithquestions · 12/10/2018 06:58

Yes to older one going to nursery (just warn them so they can be on the lookout for symptoms).
No to exposing anyone to your youngest. So eg leave the youngest in the car when you drop the eldest at nursery (or ask someone from nursery to meet you and take your oldest).
That also goes for the shops I’m afraid. Are you totally out of nappies? Can you get a supermarket delivery in time? Neighbour to drop something off for you even if there’s no one who can watch the youngest?

And I do get it... it’s a nightmare! But you will find that anyone with young children will understand and usually offer to help if you explain you’re stuck inside.

yikesanotherbooboo · 12/10/2018 07:06

Personally , I wouldn't take infectious child to supermarket. Have you got an other half or family member to dash out quickly before work or at lunchtime?
As far as C pox is concerned; take direction from school; usually it's considered to be ok to go; but this would not be the case if there are children with immune problems in the roll

AvoidingDM · 12/10/2018 07:53

Oldest one send them to nursery. If you don't and they take it after the LO they could end up missing up to 4 weeks of nursery.

Personally I would take LO to the local chemists quicker and easier than trying to find stuff in the supermarket.

Thanks, we sorted it & will get to chemist later. Is there anything in particular we should ask for? She doesn’t seem very itchy, just a bit miserable.

Your title.

I think your title is perfect 🤣

I found poxclin very good.

WowserBowser · 12/10/2018 09:06

Poopclin?

Sausagedogsandpugs · 12/10/2018 09:14

Oh yes, I meant poopclin 😄

ileclerc · 12/10/2018 09:16

bicarb in the bath really helped soothe mine when they had it.

Chicken poop Grin

Babybearsporij · 12/10/2018 09:16

Chicken poops, arf!

I'd send oldest to nursery, but like the PPs have said, just warn them that baby has the poops, I mean pox Grin .

Calamine works wonders for itching and I've heard good things about Virasoothe too.

Coldhandscoldheart · 12/10/2018 09:56

Grin that’ll teach me to post on not enough sleep!

chicken poops! Love it.

you have brought a smile to my face, OP. That's going to make me giggle at inappropriate times all day.

Schuyler · 12/10/2018 09:58

Chicken poops sounds worse than chicken pox, to be honest. Grin Hope your little one is ok.

Calamine cream (like lotion, but thicker) was helpful here.

Ohb0llocks · 12/10/2018 10:20

Piriton if the baby is over one.

Keep an eye out for a new cough, or suspicious looking spots, or a high fever.

Keep away from others.

Had your oldest had it before?

ellendegeneres · 12/10/2018 10:28

You can get same day shopping if you’ve prime, I do my Morrison’s shop on the app. Lifesaver when you’ve run out of essentials but can’t leave the house!

DelurkingAJ · 12/10/2018 10:35

Virasooth worked wonders for my two...it isn’t cheap but goodness it was more effective than calamine lotion.

newmumwithquestions · 12/10/2018 11:21

I didn’t find any lotions helped (sorry). Oat baths (put oats in a sock) seemed to - maybe it was just the water that calmed them but they definitely seemed happier for them.

FrogInASock · 12/10/2018 12:01

Another vote for ViraSoothe

ToastyFingers · 12/10/2018 12:07

When DD had pox the doctor said creams and lotions are fine but not really all that helpful and a child-friendly antihistamine is better for the itching and helps to reduce the length of the illness.

DaisyDreaming · 12/10/2018 13:08

Please don’t take the youngest into the chemist, some people are standing their picking up their immune suppressants! It might be quick but it’s still exposing vulnerable people. Maybe if you phone the chemist in advance they could pop outto you at your car?
