As title. And also, we don’t have anyone to watch small, so can I take them to the supermarket to get nappies and calamine and things? What else do I need?

Be careful using Piriton. I used it fine with mine and recommended it to my SIL for hers and her youngest reacted badly and ended up in hospital.

Can't get past the title Bear

DD5 had chicken pox. DD3 continued to go to childcare. Why coop her up when her cooped up time will come if she gets it? I got half joking rude remarks from a parent suggesting she be kept at home.

Never got it. So just goes to show how silly it would have been to do so.

No don't take the infectious one out in public!! Read past posts about immunosuppressed people being put at risk.

Always thought chicken pox was contagious for approx 10 days before first spots appeared.
If child is not ill (mine weren't ill just very spotty) why keep.them from doing usual things.

Wolfiefan · 14/10/2018 15:01

@weepat because chicken pox is bloody dangerous for some people.
Eldest can carry on as usual but you can’t take a child you know has chicken pox out where they will come near others.

Aragog · 14/10/2018 15:02

weepat - they are also still contagious when they have spots, until they are all crusted over. Hence, once you know they've got it, you keep them away from other people incase of venerable people with low immunity, etc. Before you know you can't help it, but once you know you shouldn't be taking them out and about.

Aragog · 14/10/2018 15:03

There is, however, no need to isolate the older child without chicken pox. Maybe let nursery know incase they have any vulnerable children or staff, but the advise is for those without CP ye to carry out as normal.
