They don't deserve the to be so hung, drawn and quartered in public like this. There are many, many people who've been spotted having a snog whilst high on adrenalin / drink. None of us is perfect.

They've just apologised again on Strictly Take 2.

And please, no abuse towards me for posting this either.

But it's the kiss that seems to have triggered the media hunt & subsequent outpouring on social media.

As far as I can see (and I'm in no way at all saying any abuse if it happened is ok), they were papped kissing, he's played down any flirting to his girlfriend, she had a feeling there was something going on.

Is it really front page news? Is it really more important than many other actual pieces of news? If people want sleb gossip fine (I personally don't like it for a number of reasons) but the comings and going of strictly and sleb relationships aren't news in my opinion.

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/10/2018 23:23

It's front page news if you want ratings.

HeddaGarbled · 10/10/2018 23:38

I think it’s awesome. I feel like there’s this tide turning where women are really getting the opportunity to say “actually, this isn’t OK”.

zippey · 11/10/2018 07:05

This isn’t about the abuse at all. Sure, this kind of thing happens all the time. But the fact it got caught on camera, and people can see the behaviour in all its glory. That’s the crux.

I also think that it’s a way of washing away your own sins. This happens all the time and lots of people do it, so the fiery reaction from a lot of people is a way of washing away similar past behaviour. A bit like Jesus atoning for our sins by dying on the cross. Let’s face it, he even looks like Jesus.

groundcontroltomontydon · 11/10/2018 07:21

My first thought when I saw him on Strictly was dear god Joe Wicks has let himself go. Meh - celebs only exist because people gossip about them.

zippey · 11/10/2018 08:13

Yes but people like to gossip! Celebs have been around since television was invented. Now we have more tv channels there’s more celebs.

The celebs in the past were probably actors and royalty etc.

zippey · 11/10/2018 08:15

I’m kind of sad that the woman’s husband hast split up with her publicly as yet. It’s only a matter of time though. And it will probably be the woman who does the breaking up, not her husband.

MawkishTwaddle · 11/10/2018 11:33

Bread and circuses innit?

Rebecca36 · 11/10/2018 11:46

To the op:- Yes. Enough already.
(Sorry if I already said it this morning, I might have and if not, have been thinking it.)

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 11/10/2018 11:51

Someone on one of the other threads called it that the tide would turn in the favour of Sean(n) & Katya by the end of the week. Judging by the changing tone of threads on here, that poster seems to have been bang on.

Not by the phone in discussions there have been on tv this morning.

I think it's good for SCD ratings and the fact they are doing the happy clappy Charleston this weekend will either be good or as cringy as hell with fixed smiles on their faces.

They may survive this week but they will be out in a couple of weeks. Once they are back to traditional ballroom dances again or Latin the rumour mill will be in full flow.

I can't imagine the Rhumba or Argentine Tango being much fun....

aintnothinbutagstring · 11/10/2018 12:02

All seems like a set up to me, call me a cynic but they may as well have been posing for ok magazine, what are the chances of being 'accidentally' (on purpose) caught like that? I reckon katya is in an open marriage so it was almost allowed, even encouraged, but I doubt theres any real chemistry, its all for publicity and career promotion.

derxa · 11/10/2018 12:05

Oh I don't know I'm still enjoying the drama...

I think it's a win for everyone. They're all getting publicity. RH is well shot of SW and gets to play the feminist heroine on social media. SW gets shot of his girlfriend who he clearly had no love or respect for.

AdamNichol · 11/10/2018 12:19

Gaslighting and trying to weasel out of being caught are not the same thing.
Gaslighting is a concerted attempt to manipulate someone by making them constantly doubt their perception of reality and their own judgement.
Pre-incident, there may have been no real reason for the girlfriend to have suspicions; and baseless accusations by her may have been common behaviour (we don't know either way as we only have her account of this). Conceivably, it could have driven a wedge between them that contributed to the incident.

Or maybe he is a gaslighting douche like Justin Lee-Collins.
But even if so, need to be clear about when that label can be assigned or it will have its impact eroded. Someone at work said "Nice shirt" to me today. It is a nice shirt, I like it. That conversation was not an example of sexual harassment in the workplace though. Yet, a twitter post from me could have the word saying different (well, not really but that's coz I ain't famous or interesting or anything).

TwitterQueen1 · 11/10/2018 14:08

Yeah, I guess so Derxa. It's a good job they're both clearly very resilient though. If ZB had received the same amount of vitriol and public hate I'm sure she would have been devastated. And everyone just ignores Boris...

Tripping back to the OP, though not the specific topic; does anyone else feel like the (first) world is really addicted to outrage these days? And often the more trivial the better. To be in the public eye now requires you to prepare for every failing of yours to have the hordes trooping online to outdo one another in the level of offence they have taken - despite being in no way impacted by this whatsoever.
And why, when there's been no actual crime committed, are we all so gung ho in demanding absolute moral virtue from entertainers? Kirsty Allsop is a glorified estate agent, so why should I be troubled about her parenting techniques? Or whether a dancer is having an affair? Or the political opinions of a singer?
Sometimes, I just don't fit this world.

TwitterQueen1 · 11/10/2018 15:29

I completely agree Adam! I hate the way everyone feels the need to judge all the time.

Petalflowers · 11/10/2018 15:36

Maybe if they wanted it to disappear they shouldn’t have put out a public apology first, and spoken to their respective partners.

derxa · 11/10/2018 15:42

Good post Adam

Theknacktoflying · 11/10/2018 15:42

God ... there is more to this than just a few celebrities caught in the act or tabloid headlines with laughing and pointing ...

It is just a good example to our show our children that unacceptable behaviour is just that and should be hauled up. It doesn’t excuse it because they happen to be considered minor celebrities or someone that you don’t pay attention to ....

zippey · 12/10/2018 08:12

Good post Adam. Can I put Collens Nolan’s spat with Kim on the list too.

user1471462428 · 12/10/2018 08:36

Well emotional abuse and has lighting is a crime. The fact he is allowed to carry on in the competition despite these allegations is abhorrent. It maybe also reflects the lack of support victims of this crime receive.

Blackberry10 · 12/10/2018 09:10

The gaslighting comes from he was caught calling his ex “mental” and “phycho” on the phone to her

VickieCherry · 12/10/2018 09:14

What I've found strangest is how many people excuse it by saying 'Lots of people have drunken kisses when they're married, it's meaningless'.

Er... no they don't? Not in my world, anyway!
