Yes. Is it JL? My Dd had one like that for school for years.

Anonanon18 · 09/10/2018 13:28

I apparently can’t let my daughter wear this as it’s a boy style🤷🏻‍♀️.

Would it make a difference if her brother had the same one?

School age? No, and not for a boy either. I think jackets should have some brighter colours so they can be visible to cars in the dark evenings.

ileclerc · 09/10/2018 13:28

If she wanted it? What are you getting at?

spacefighter · 09/10/2018 13:29

How old is your daughter?

NonaGrey · 09/10/2018 13:30

I don’t think it’s to my DD’s taste but there’s nothing wrong with the jacket.

Anonanon18 · 09/10/2018 13:30

Daughter is 10 nearly 11.

Jackshouse · 09/10/2018 13:32

Is your DD says she does not want to wear it? If she does not want to wear it then no. I believe it is very important to teach girls that they have control over their own bodies.

My DD is only two so I buy bright coloured coats but often from the boys section.

Singlenotsingle · 09/10/2018 13:32

Wasn't there a big hoo-hah recently about "boys' clothes" and "girls' clothes"? Shops are selling pink clothes for girls, and blue clothes for boys. Quelle horreur! Shock But a black jacket is fine if your daughter likes it.

ToastyFingers · 09/10/2018 13:34

I'd buy it if she wanted it. My DD wouldnt like it though and I wouldn't force her to wear it as I was bullied in school for having to wear some of the stuff my mum picked for me.
There's nothing wrong without though.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 09/10/2018 13:37

Does your daughter want to wear it?

That's the only thing that matters.

My daughter would wear that through choice.

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 09/10/2018 13:37

If she liked it then yes. It is a bit shapless and unisex tho......also looks very short. I always opt for something that offers a bit of bum coverage for this time of year. Perk of being female is we seem to have more options of longer styles for some reason. Confused

Anonanon18 · 09/10/2018 13:38

She hasn’t said if she wants it or not. I’ve bought 2 sizes for my son to try on and was thinking about giving the other one to my daughter but I’ve been informed by a family member that she can’t wear it as it’s a boys jacket.

If she doesn’t like it I will exchange it. Not going to force her to wear it.

OP posts:
Thatstheendofmytether · 09/10/2018 13:40

Just ask her bit if it's a boys jaclet and she's not into styles like that then I wpuld expect she probably won't especially if her brother is going to be wearing the same one and possibly other boys I the school.

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 09/10/2018 13:43

Oooooohhhhh, matching with your brother is a no no at that age. I can see the temptation tho.

MarklahMarklah · 09/10/2018 13:45

It's a coat. If she likes it, then all well and good.
I would suggest your family member needs to consider that it's 2018, and not 1955.

BoundByBriars · 09/10/2018 13:46

Why is it a boy's style? Because it doesn't have unicorns, rainbows and frills on or a figure-enhancing cut? Hmm

If she likes it, it's absolutely fine. My DD has a very similar coat.

SpoonBlender · 09/10/2018 13:47

Family member is being a muppet. Offer it to your DD, see what she wants - she'll probably say no, kids are picky!

totorosfluffytummy · 09/10/2018 13:51

My 10 year old DD would probably wear it but I imagine she would not want to wear the same coat as her older brother.

Anonanon18 · 09/10/2018 13:52

That’s exactly it, it’s not a fitted style so she can’t wear it.

If my daughter is willing to wear it then she can. I think it will be matching her brother rather than the style that makes her say no.

OP posts:
averylongtimeago · 09/10/2018 13:59

If she's ok with it why not?
So called "girls" jackets are often too short and too fitted imo

Madcats · 09/10/2018 14:03

FWIW, my daughter chooses clothing from boys and girls ranges.

If she is younger I suppose she might find it confusing to have something fastening in the opposite direction.
