Simple black jacket. Yes or no?

Would you buy this for you daughter?

It depends on the individual. If she likes it, then fine.

JaneJeffer · 09/10/2018 14:08

Not unless it has reflective strips on it.

NonaGrey · 09/10/2018 14:26

I’ve been informed by a family member that she can’t wear it as it’s a boys jacket

^^ well that’s just nonsense.

My DD wouldn’t want to wear an identical jacket to her brother though (and vice versa, he wouldn’t want to match his sister).

They have in the past worn the same style but the colour choices made them look quite different. (And no, it wasn’t pink and blue!)

Looks like a regulation school uniform coat to me Confused

Tinty · 09/10/2018 14:33

My DD used to often get her trousers from the boys range at Next because the girls khaki trousers had stupid her words flowers on them. Grin

My MIL has just given my DS a cool 60's jacket she used to wear. He likes vintage clothes.

So no there are no clothes which are strictly just for girls or boys, that I can think of.

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/10/2018 14:36

It's a jacket. If it fits and she likes it why not?

Try it on and go from there.

MrsLettuce · 09/10/2018 14:37

DS wouldn't like it at all (prefers something longer for bum warmth) but I'd buy it for her if she did like it. Neither DC (aged 9 and 11) would be happy wearing the same coat sat thier brother/sister. They'd HATE that

MrsLettuce · 09/10/2018 14:38

DD wouldn't like it, I meant

Witchend · 09/10/2018 14:41

No. I think buying two for your ds to try on and expecting your dd to take the other rather mean. Kind of says you thought about your ds but her choice doesn't matter.

I also wouldn't get it as it's too dark to be out at night.

MiddlingMum · 09/10/2018 15:30

No, because they would have thought it was hideous.

(I wouldn't necessarily have agreed with them)

Catfacecats · 09/10/2018 15:50

No - beacause I let her choose from a range. Obviously I’ll veto pale pink/white as it’s impractical. But I wouldn’t choose her a plain black jacket as she prefers pink/purple/holographic unicorn glitter.

Bekabeech · 09/10/2018 16:09

My youngest DD has been wearing a "boys" style Blazer for the last couple of years as she prefers second hand, and preferred her brother's old one to her sister's.
My biggest concern with that jacket was that it will make her (and your son) invisible at night/twilight.

MrsJayy · 09/10/2018 16:15

My girls always wore boy jackets for school and wet weather does it matter it is a black jacket if she likes it let her have it.

Rebecca36 · 09/10/2018 16:16

Yes it's very nice.

BertrandRussell · 09/10/2018 16:31

It will make whoever wears it invisible at night.....

LIZS · 09/10/2018 16:34

You can add reflective stickers to improve visibility.

MrsJayy · 09/10/2018 16:47

My eldest was into combats (early 00s) but wore boys because the girls usually had flowers on them somewhere

HarrySnotter · 09/10/2018 16:52

Yes of course. DD had one very similar to that at 12 as she reckons she looks like Katniss from the Hunger Games in it.
