Chocolate oranges for people who actually like chocolate

PoliticalBiscuit · 08/10/2018 09:49

Planning my Christmas shopping (booking my Ocado shop now!)

And I was reminded that I actually can't bear chocolate oranges any more, totally inedible. Can anyone recommend a milk chocolate with a nice subtle orange flavour - like Chocolate Oranges used to be in the good old days

(I think I have officially hit middle age!)

Lindt do a lovely chocolate orange. Not in the shape of an orange with segments , but you can buy a box of individually wrapped balls.

Bombardier25966 · 08/10/2018 09:56

Lindt is another one that gives palm oil overload. Cheap chocolate in a shiny wrapper.

I don't know the answer OP, but would love to find the same thing!

LuItaliana · 08/10/2018 11:32

I like the Godiva dark choc with blood orange, It's the best Iv'e found & I've been trying loads as I am still devastated about loosing my choc orange it was my favourite Sad

Sorry I just saw you wanted milk choc- I haven't found a good one, please let me know if you find one!

SpoonBlender · 08/10/2018 11:34

Have Terry's ever actually changed the taste of the milk chocolate one? That was a fairly late arrival anyway, it was only ever dark when I was a kid.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 08/10/2018 11:35

Lindt is another one that gives palm oil overload.

Not true.

Lindt milk chocolate does't have palm oil in it - plain milk chocolate like the bars or the bunnies.

Their filled products like Lindor have palm oil in the filling but not in the actual chocolate. Their Orange Intense bars don't have palm oil in it and are lovely.

PoliticalBiscuit · 08/10/2018 11:38

Piper - thanks for the tip, I find the Lindt filled balls a bit claggy so I will have a look out for their choc bars.

LoveCocoa do a lovely milk chocolate orange bar.

OrchidFlakes · 08/10/2018 13:09

Hotel chocolate every time! We’ve given up on all other chocolate here with the exception of Sainsbury’s taste the difference flakey truffles.

dontgobaconmyheart · 08/10/2018 13:41

I know you were after milk chocolate orange OP so maybe not helpful but I've given up on trying to find a good one. I get my fix from chocolate orangettes (candied orange peel sticks covered in chocolate basically). You get the flavour but not the heaviness, and not in that 'we've added cheap orange oil to palm oil' kind of taste that most chocolate orange seens to be these days. I think they're usually dark chocolate but you never know.
Even thinking about lindor balls etc makes me feel ill, the claggy texture is vile.

starryeyedsnowgirl · 08/10/2018 13:43

Divine used to do a good one, haven't had it in a while which was nice and without the icky chunks of orange peel some of the other brands seem to like to add.

TheViceOfReason · 08/10/2018 13:44

These are gorgeous - really creamy chocolate, no palm oil and lovely real orange flavour. www.charbonnel.co.uk/milk-chocolate-orange-thins.html

Nitw1t · 08/10/2018 13:44

Second Divine - really lovely chocolate and they do an orange bar if you can find it (Co-op have it normally)

HollyBollyBooBoo · 08/10/2018 13:47

Lindt are divine - no palm oil (you can google the ingredients).

SilverySurfer · 08/10/2018 15:20

Lindt Lindor does contain palm oil, unfortunately:

Ingredients
Sugar, Vegetable Fat (Coconut, Palm Kernel), Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Whole Milk Powder, Skimmed Milk Powder, Lactose, Anhydrous Milk Fat, Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin), Barley Malt Extract, Orange Essential Oil, Flavourings, Milk Chocolate contains: Cocoa Solids: 30% minimum, Milk Solids: 20% minimum

Ok, so these are candied clementine pieces dipped in dark (sorry) choc. No palm. Bloody amazing.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 08/10/2018 15:57

IdaDown - Can you describe what they're like, please? From the website it says "Whole clementines are candied, using the traditional slow process of preserving fruits in sugar, then halved and covered in dark chocolate to make these simple dolcetti." - I'm presuming the skins are still on them?

(Sorry, but they sound intriguing and I fancy making some, but want to know what I'm aiming for!)

HollyBollyBooBoo · 08/10/2018 17:38

Apols - I'm talking about the Excellence bar but it's dark choc so won't work for a milk choc lover!

tectonicplates · 08/10/2018 18:03

How about a deep fried chocolate orange?! www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-lincolnshire-45758126/deep-fried-chocolate-orange-hits-plates-at-chip-shop

Napssavelives · 08/10/2018 18:05

I liked green and blacks blood orange

GreenTulips · 08/10/2018 18:06

Hotel chocolate every time! We’ve given up on all other chocolate here

Me too! Hotel totally spoils all other chocolate and once tasted you can't go back!

Babybearsporij · 08/10/2018 18:32

Choc shot orange spice tastes exactly like chocolate orange used to. However I'm not sure how you'd get it to be like a chocolate orange, unless you squirted it onto some naice milk chocolate?

Madbengalmum · 08/10/2018 18:36

Divine chocolate orange bars are the best , the only way to go OP!

Icantfindanewname · 08/10/2018 18:41

Aldi do a lovely bag of their own mini segments. Just like Terrys used to be before it became inedible. I may have undertaken extensive research in this area... I've checked my emergency bag (hidden in the baking box) and no nasty palm oil to be seen
