Knitting a hat on a wet Saturday.

I have a few days off work. Today it is raining and looks cold outside. Can I justify spending the day on the sofa, listening to the radio and knitting a hat? Or should I be more active as it is one of the few Saturdays I get off work each year. Another factor is that payday is not until next Friday so I can't really afford to go shopping. Shall I just snuggle down with the knitting and some coffee?? :)

Yes. Knit. It'll be far more relaxing than shopping anyway. All those annoying people and noise. Plus, you'll have a lovely hat (eventually). Unless it's a hat for someone else?

LibraryLurker · 06/10/2018 12:43

I work in retail too!!! The hat is for me to match a scarf I already have.

Hello! Yes, definitely knit a hat 👍 could you refer me to an easy pattern, by any chance?

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 06/10/2018 12:48

Oh yes please do

What colour is the wool?

misscockerspaniel · 06/10/2018 12:51

Definitely have a lovely chilling out day on the sofa, knitting.

Thank you, LibraryLurker!

Get knitting my lovely. Shops are open all year round. I had plans to finish some decorating today, got up hormonal and in a really can't be bothered mood so I've spent the morning watching Big Bang theory, eating pickled onion monster munch and drinking tea. I will make a move at one point, probably to another room to carry on my none decorating Big Bang marathon lol. Enjoy your relaxing Saturday xx

Your thread title is almost poetic. Scans beautifully. Knit btw. We’re reading and snoozing today.

MiddlingMum · 06/10/2018 13:26

I'm planning to knit all afternoon, but not a hat Smile

JakeBallardswife · 06/10/2018 13:30

Sounds blissful, even making me want to knit. I can't knit but loving the idea of it.

katseyes7 · 06/10/2018 13:32

l'm sat here watching telly and crocheting a blanket. Get the kettle on every so often, have a nice hot drink. lt's lovely to have a day like that, enjoy it! x

Progress report I have now almost completed the ribbing of the hat. I decided to go the whole hog and rather than listen to radio, I got the old LPs out. I bought myself a portable record player last year. Beatles first and now Fleetwood Mac. I found a stack of my old LPs at my Mum's recently. It is turning out to be a very nice Saturday indeed.

What a lovely thread.

Enjoy your hat when it's done....maybe post a pic?

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 06/10/2018 19:42

I was just going to say, post a picture when you're done 😀

LibraryLurker · 06/10/2018 19:47

I will try but I'm not very tech savy. I use an old PC to connect to mn and only have a basic nokia phone so I may have to wait until I persuade one of my young friends at church to take a picture for me.

My daughter is learning to knit today.
I'm knitting a scarf in suffragette colours.
It's a good day to knit!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 06/10/2018 19:53

Knitting is a lovely pastime. I have two scarves that I knitted last year that I'm looking forward to wearing again.

LibraryLurker · 06/10/2018 19:53

Superloud - I love the idea of a scarf in suffragette colours. Happy Knitting! How old is your daughter?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 06/10/2018 19:58

My daughter is 18 soon.
I'm sure I taught her when she was much younger.
I definitely taught her to crochet.

I'm hoping it sticks this time!

Spongeface · 06/10/2018 20:11

Sounds like the perfect Saturday to me.hope you have enjoyed.

rackhampearl · 06/10/2018 20:13

Hope you've had a lovely day. You sound so sweet Smile

LibraryLurker · 06/10/2018 20:15

Superloud - I was first taught to knit at the age of 7 in Brownies, knitting ubiquitous blanket squares, I think we were sponsored!! Then I did a bit in Junior school but recall I never finished a red tank top - I think it came out of the carrier bag for one hour a week for school craft lesson. Then as a teenager a whole load of my friends knitted their own jumpers so I took it up again. My first sweater was burgundy colour- it was enormous - I could have loaned it to all my friends as winter maternity wear, instead I recall wearing it in my first year at college, it came down to my knees!! Over the years I've had periods of intense knitting then fallow times. I have a jumper half finished but knitting a hat every now and again is a nice little way of feeling I've accomplished something in a short timescale.
