How fucking scary were dinosaurs?!

Tonight I read my three year old a lift the flap type book she got from the library about dinosaurs. I don’t know very much about dinosaurs and I have been educated!

One has a head the size of a small car! One has teeth as long as a child’s arm! Another has a sail on its back as tall as an adult human.

And crocodiles were around when dinosaurs were! And they just fanny about in America. Just haunting lakes and being fucking terrifying. Imagine dinosaurs still existed! And they just cut about, being massive with their teeth and their tales. Eating people.

Ffs.

Although my sister in law told me last time she was drunk that she doesn’t believe in dinosaurs. Is that a thing?!

Im on a facebook page that denies dinosaurs existence, it's fucking hilarious

Nanasueathome · 05/10/2018 20:55

We went to Blackgang Chine (iow) a couple of years ago and there’s a dinosaur exhibition thing there
The kids were terrified

Prehistoric crocodiles were amazing. Google Boar Croc!

claracluck78 · 05/10/2018 21:20

My 5 year old DTs like to remind me that dinosaurs may have been massive and scary but a blue whale is still bigger than the largest ever dino

iismum · 05/10/2018 21:22

Actually, crocodiles don't do any fannying about in America - that's alligators. Crocodiles fanny about in Africa, Asia and Australia.

Armi · 05/10/2018 21:23

A blue whale won’t come to your house and rip your head off!

Isntthiswhatweteachthekids · 05/10/2018 21:24

I always find it interesting that co existing with them would have been impossible ...lucky I suppose they all got wiped out 🤔

VintageFur · 05/10/2018 21:26

You need to go see Dr Ben do his dinosaur talk. He's fucking ruined Jurassic park for me now. Angry

YesItsMeIDontCare · 05/10/2018 21:29

There's no evidence about the colour of dinosaurs though (I believe) so I always like to think of T-Rex being dayglo orange with sparkles. Less scary.

wheresmyhairytoe · 05/10/2018 21:31

I'm shit scared of alligators. Not that I've ever met one, I just find them sinister. Also owls and tortoises, if they make eye contact it can chill your very soul.
I wouldn't have got on with dinosaurs...

RedDwarves · 05/10/2018 21:32

I was going to say. Alligators are American. I would associate crocodiles with Australia (where I'm from). I know someone who was eaten by one.

MissLingoss · 05/10/2018 21:40

Anyone who hasn't, should read Jodi Taylor's Just One Damned Thing After Another, for scary dinosaurs.

elephantoverthehill · 05/10/2018 21:48

I've got an annomite fossil. They were around at the time of the dinosaurs, weren't they? It's not very big and not very scary.

claracluck78 · 05/10/2018 21:53

We've got some ammonites, some ichthyosaurs vertebrae and some coprolite (dinosaur poo) all from the Dorset Jurassic coast. If anyone actually believes they didn't exist and it's just fakes planted on the Jurassic coast then whoever planted them was a sadistic fuck as it took us bloody hours to find stuff on Charmouth beach.

OublietteBravo · 05/10/2018 21:56

I’m pretty sure the dinosaur denial thread ended up in classics.

TulipsInBloom1 · 05/10/2018 21:56

Was it Karl Pilkington who suggested an ideal solution to the current levels of over population was to bring back the dinosaurs?

Passmethecrisps · 05/10/2018 22:05

Winning!

dontticklethetoad · 06/10/2018 07:40

This is from the dinosaur thread, is very good Grin thrhyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2013/10/menace.html?m=1

SnuggyBuggy · 06/10/2018 07:42

I'm impressed she managed to burn plastic dinosaurs, I would have thought that hard to do

BillywigSting · 06/10/2018 07:44

You are right! We a have a museum near us with small dinosaur skeletons in it and even those little long dead allosaurs are bloody scary.

They have altogether far too many pointy teeth.

I've always loved dinosaurs though and my five year olds interest in them is a great cover for my own nerdiness. There's a lot to be said for shared interests!

Branleuse · 06/10/2018 07:48

I cant believe velociraptors were the size of chickens :(

Anasnake · 06/10/2018 07:50

Manchester Museum has a T Rex skeleton. It died in a fight with another T Rex they think. It had teeth marks in its skull from fighting. It's called Stan, it's bloody brilliant.

zoobaby · 06/10/2018 07:56

They didn't eat people. True story.
