How much do you spend on shopping?

I just seem to spend an absolute extortionate amount weekly. I have an 8 week old and a 2 year old who pretty much eats everything we eat.

How much do you spend a week? Where do you shop? How many in your family? How old are your kids?

This is like asking how long is a piece of string though

We are two adults, an 11 year old and a uni student who's here a third of the year. I spend £130 a week or so.

MintyJones · 05/10/2018 19:29

Oh and I shop at Sainsbury's and Waitrose

Benji13 · 05/10/2018 19:30

£200 a week but that's for me and dh plus two sons - big strapping boy/men who eat all the blummin food! Plus dog and cats

Family of 4...2 adults, 2 DC. Kids are 8 and 10...my 10 year old eats more than most adults though Grin

I spend £50-60 a week with a couple of top up shops. I do a mixture of Lidl/Aldi/Asda/Sainsburys

frodo1 · 05/10/2018 19:36

I have me and dh 13 year old dd and 17 year old ds. Spend around £100 per week. However that includes ds's girlfriend who seems to eat here a lot. Shop in Aldi, Iceland and home bargains. Top up for bread and milk mid week for an extra fiver. How much do you spend? Are you looking to reduce your budget?

Dandybelle · 05/10/2018 19:39

We are me, DP and DD who is 4 and we spend between £50-£60 a week on an ACTUAL food shop... but we live directly opposite a spar so it's very convenient to nip for 'essentials' (read: haribo) multiple times a week Blush

lexi727 · 05/10/2018 19:41

@frodo1 I spend around £200 a week on my 'main shop' but shop at Ocado. Mentioned it to my friend who shops at Aldi, but says she spends the same. She has one DD who is 3. So wasn't sure if it would actually make a difference, but it's looking like it probably would!

I'm bloody awful at 'top up shops' that we don't necessarily need. E.g. nipping into Tesco for a pint of milk and buying £50 worth of food. Food never goes to waste because I always batch cook it up to freeze, but I would just prefer to spend less.

Probably £120 pw

2 adults, 1 teen, a 7 yo & a 5 yo

frodo1 · 05/10/2018 19:45

Ha ha I'm the same sometimes my five pound top up shop turns into a full basket of stuff I could probably do without but I can't walk past a good bargain/offer, need to get my blinkers on! . I shop in Aldi for convenience as its nearest to me. I would love to have a weekly set budget and stick to it but it would never happen!

Lauren83 · 05/10/2018 19:45

We spend about £500 a month, me DP and 9 month DS and 5 cats. Usually Morrisons as it's closest and Aldi.

RedSkyLastNight · 05/10/2018 19:46

About £100 per week. (2 adults, 2 teens).

I think I'd genuinely struggle to spend £200 in Aldi on a weekly shop - is your friend buying lots of alcohol or non-food items?

MyBrexitGoesOnHoliday · 05/10/2018 19:47

Around £120 a week for two adults and two teenagers, one of who eats more than me or H.

For me the trick is meal planing. That way I buy what I need. Nothing get forgotten in the fridge and I avoid the top ups shopping that are always more expensive (because I go to a corner shop wich is more expensive and I always end up buying something else too)

lexi727 · 05/10/2018 19:48

@RedSkyLastNight from when I've been to her house, I have noticed that she definitely buys the 'specially selected' stuff from Aldi, rather than just the normal stuff you can buy from there. I imagine that contributes. And she's a bloody nightmare for buying Prosecco too.

lexi727 · 05/10/2018 19:49

@MyBrexitGoesOnHoliday meal planning! This is what I need more of I think. I just add things to my trolley online and hope for the best, hence the need for top up shops.

Two adults, toddler and baby. We spend £90 a week, mostly at Waitrose but top ups at Tesco.

RedPandaMama · 05/10/2018 19:51

£40 a week from LIDL for me, DP and 1 year old DD. We do get one takeaway a week (on average) for about £20ish plus I have lunch out one day a week which is about a tenner. So £70ish.

lexi727 · 05/10/2018 19:52

@DieAntword is baby EBF? Or weaned now?

OP posts:
DieAntword · 05/10/2018 19:53

No baby is on 4*7oz of hip organic which is exactly one box a week.

Magair · 05/10/2018 19:54

Ocado..... between 80-100 a week then roughly £60 at Waitrose on a Friday. 2 adults, a 6 year old, a 2 year old and a dog. Eat all free range meat, two bottles of wine and don’t scrimp.

DieAntword · 05/10/2018 19:54

He does have solids as well.

lexi727 · 05/10/2018 19:55

@DieAntword okay I have no excuse if you can do it on less than me, DD isn't on solids yet so should be even less.

DieAntword · 05/10/2018 19:57

It helps that my husband and I are both teetotal.

TheWoollybacksWife · 05/10/2018 19:57

I try to keep to a budget of £500 a month with a bit of flexibility. In the summer I was feeding 5 adults and a pre teen and managed to keep to £520-£550 but 2 of those adults are currently at uni and I have £240 left in my budget with 2 weeks to go so I'll definitely come in under £500 for the month. This covers all food and cleaning materials - breakfast and dinner for everyone but 2 people get lunch included at work during the week. A bottle of wine a week. I shop at Tesco with the odd top up at Morrisons.

Benjaminbuttonschild · 05/10/2018 20:18

Approx 70 a week, 2 adults, 2 young kids. That includes non food items

stoplickingthetelly · 05/10/2018 20:19

Around £550 a month for 2 adults and 2 children age 3 and 6. This is for all food, drinks and cleaning products. Take aways are extra. I shop at asda mainly, but top up at co-op. Wish it could be less, but it rarely is. School holidays put the price up because we're all at home.
