Female condoms - anyone tried?

GlassHeart1 · 03/10/2018 17:58

Just that - what's your experience?
Would you recommend?

Also, anyone knows what shops sell them?
I tried large Boots, Tescos and independent chemists with no luck.

Is online the only option? Any brands better than others?

I haven't no, wouldn't even know where to start with them 😂

Littledidsheknow · 03/10/2018 18:12

I saw a picture of one once...that put me off. It'd be like sticking a bin liner up your chuff.

Any reason you fancy them instead of other contraception?

citiesofbismuth · 03/10/2018 18:34

I bought some once, but couldn't work out how to get them in place. They have a plastic ring at either end and are supposed to fit around your cervix or something. I stuffed it in and it was just awful and felt like I hadn't done it properly, so just chucked them out.

They rustle as well and are lubricated so feel slippy which makes fitting feel annoying.

Once, 20 odd years ago. NEVER again Grin

KindergartenKop · 03/10/2018 20:31

Why do they even exist? Surely someone buys them.

GlassHeart1 · 03/10/2018 20:51

Thank you for the feedback.

Sounds disappointing though.

Yes it was years ago I think they were quite a new product then

It’s like crisp packet up your foo foo

MorningsEleven · 03/10/2018 20:54

About 25 years ago. Never again.

My ex and I were given them by a friend who didn't like them. Said friend is now my husband. That's a bit odd really I think.

MrsNathanDrake · 03/10/2018 20:56

I used to work for the company that made them for about 6 months before I went to university back in 1992. I was in quality control Grin yes, really!

birdling · 03/10/2018 23:17

I used them for a while. They're actually ok. I had to buy them online.

sparkli · 03/10/2018 23:49

I've just asked DH (then DBF) if he remembered that night. He said he actually preferred it to using a Male condom - better sensation apparently. We hadn't been together very long when we tried it and he was too embarrassed to say how he felt as he thought I wasn't comfortable with using it Hmm

sparkli · 03/10/2018 23:51

No idea why my phone has a capital 'M' as the autocorrect version of 'male' Angry

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 04/10/2018 00:13

Are they still around?

maggienolia · 04/10/2018 07:51

This brings back memories. ..I tried them once, it was like stuffing in one of those bags you put your veg in in the supermarket.
They rustled like buggery.
Didn't repeat the experience.

EBearhug · 04/10/2018 07:57

I thought they were comparatively popular in various African countries, because the woman has more control, but I admit it's a long time since I read studies like that.

sadnessin · 04/10/2018 08:05

If you're interested in a barrier method that you're "in charge" of OP have you considered a diaphragm? I got mine without having to do the embarrassing nurse appointments and fittings etc.

TheQueef · 04/10/2018 08:07

Tried them when they were new.

Like putting a windsock up your chuff.

Not for me.

ToadOfSadness · 04/10/2018 11:04

I tried them when they first appeared. You need to ensure they stay in place during entry or the entire thing gets pushed out of place/inside depending on your anatomy/size.

Felt like a plastic bag and was very wary of moving in case the contents got out. If you like wild sex don't bother, you will constantly wondering if it has moved. They were very expensive too.

Have you thought about a cap? You still have to fiddle about with them but are a bit less stressful.

MarthaArthur · 04/10/2018 11:07

sad where did you get you diaghram? I want one but the gum clinic here doesnt do them so do i just call my dr and ask?

DioneTheDiabolist · 04/10/2018 11:08

I have used them and don't mind them. They were quite a bit more expensive than bloke's condoms though.Hmm

sadnessin · 04/10/2018 22:32

@MarthaArthur I got a Caya from Amazon, it's one size fits most lol. It's not cheap (I think around £40 from memory) but I'm not going to need a new one any time soon so price per wear (ahem) works out pretty decent.

MarthaArthur · 04/10/2018 23:38

Thanks @sad i will look into that. Is it a comfortable.fit and effective? Sorry for the questions.

DramaAlpaca · 04/10/2018 23:41

Once. Many years ago. Never again.

BaronessBomburst · 04/10/2018 23:46

Oh yes. About 20 years ago. They were dreadful. You had to squish the smaller ring flat to insert it, only as it was lubricated it was too slippery and kept pinging across the room. We were in fits of laughter.
