Do you feel aggrieved if your hotel room has two singles rather than a double?

I've just been procrastinating on TripAdvisor. Looking at the reviews on hotels I've stayed in and I'm going to stay in. A common complaint is 'there wasn't a double bed'. Personally I can't think of anything nicer! My own space, blankets etc. If I you fancy a bit of how's your father your partner is in the next bed not the chuffing gatekeepers cottage..
I just wanted to know if it genuinely bothers people because personally I see no downsides Grin

Wouldn't bother me either.

DramaAlpaca · 02/10/2018 23:23

I wouldn't mind at all.

littlecabbage · 02/10/2018 23:24

I'd be thrilled Grin

Yes but only because I’m generally alone and want to starfish!

Premier often give you a double and a single . My partner and I always fight over who gets the double. I usually win and give express instructions that there will be no sharing until at least 8am. He is exactly the same Wink

fabulous!!

helacells · 02/10/2018 23:30

What? I thought all hotels had two doubles or queens, or is that just a US thing?

PlinkPlink · 02/10/2018 23:31

I feel slightly aggrieved that you have used the phrase 'How's your father' as a euphemism for sex... what is this, a Carry On movie? 😂

I prefer the double personally but I email or ring ahead to make sure that happens. Alternatively, we just stick the beds together... sorted!

AbsentmindedWoman · 02/10/2018 23:31

I'd be annoyed if this was in a hotel, singles are too small for sex or snuggling.

BUT if it was staying somewhere at short notice - with friends, or some kinds of emergency - a single bed or the floor is very gratefully appreciated and is romantic in its own way.

LoniceraJaponica · 02/10/2018 23:31

Having done a few university open days with DD that has meant some overnight stays I have had the opposite problem. Most of the rooms have been doubles, and DD fidgets and starfishes.

donajimena · 02/10/2018 23:37

plink shag? Sex? Fucking? I'm only messing although I was partial to a carry on film before I realised how misogynistic they were why do you push them together?

ScoopskiPotato · 03/10/2018 00:32

No I love it. If we have sex then I make sure it's in his bed. No wet spot for me. for a change

PlinkPlink · 03/10/2018 01:46

Shag - too Austin Powers 😂

We're all about the cuddles to get to sleep when there isn't a child in the way and when OH's snoring doesn't make me want to murder him 😂😂 so we put the beds together to be close... is that a bit soppy?

PerspicaciaTick · 03/10/2018 01:53

If I'm on my own, I want the biggest possible bed. If I'm with DH, I enjoy single beds....I think that this is because I find hotel rooms very stuffy most of the time and a toasty DH makes it all too warm. At home we sleep in a cold room with the windows open...which makes snuggling together under the duvet much more enjoyable.

EBearhug · 03/10/2018 02:06

If I booked a double, I expect a double. If I booked a twin, I expect singles.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 03/10/2018 02:26

Worst thing is two singles masquerading as a double.

dontwanttogooooo · 03/10/2018 02:31

On my honeymoon we had what we thought was a double. The how's your father was interrupted when it transpired it was two singles pushed together as I fell into the middle and was eaten by the beds GrinBlush

happymummy12345 · 03/10/2018 03:34

I would hate that.
We once stayed in a hotel and it was two single beds together with a double sheet on. I was convinced I would fall down the middle.
Even if I was own my own I'd still want a double bed.
A single reminds me of my student days in halls. And my then boyfriend now husband and i sharing and doing other things in a single bed. Nightmare.

My last booking was opposite, they gave us a double instead of a twin. Went to reception and turns out we had booked a double, but they kindly swapped us to a twin room.

If you stay in a slightly top ranked hotel like a hilton or above you'll normally be given two double beds in one room as a twin room.

I haven’t slept in a single bed since I was about 19. I’d be seriously pissed off if I was given one in a hotel. Even when I have a hotel room to myself, I don’t go smaller than Queen size!

donajimena · 03/10/2018 06:46

plink I guess if you always have a stowaway between you its understandable to want to canoodle Wink
Lots of hotels indeed have two doubles which is bliss. But we have also come across many with two singles which is what seems to cause a lot of uproar.
scoopsci that is genius! My bed is to become mine only.

pinkhorse · 03/10/2018 07:02

I would hate two singles! I struggle to sleep without dp in the bed. I fall asleep snuggled up to him on his chest. I don't get why you wouldn't want to sleep with your partner/ husband Confused

Meet0nTheIedge · 03/10/2018 07:07

I don't mind from the snuggling point of view, I can't fall sleep if I'm touching anyone else but I need to be able to reach out and prod him when he starts snoring and I can't do that if he's on the other side of the room.

Branleuse · 03/10/2018 07:09

I prefer a twin room
